Backcountry.com’s Gearheads are your instant connection to gear knowledge. They’re passionate outdoor experts hell-bent on helping you find the right ski, saddle, or pro. Follow their adventures and exploits.

I can't get enough of time spent outdoors. Salt Lake City is the perfect place for this and thankfully this is where my parents raised me, and I currently live. I love getting out in the Wasatch, skiing, hiking, climbing, or just sitting by a mountain stream. Most of the time, I have one or all three of my kids joining me. I love camping, and backpacking all over the Western US but prefer staying in Utah, either the Uinta Mountains, or Southern Utah Redrock. I am an avid backcountry and alpine skier. I taught skiing at a local mountain for 13 years before moving to a desk job here at Backcountry.com

This looks and feels great on. Too often short dresses are too short on me. This is a nice length and the Medium size hits me mid thigh(Im 5'10 145 pounds with a longer torso) Really comfortable and packs well without wrinkling in your luggage. The Blazing Strip color looks even better in person.

I love this dress. It is a beautiful super soft and stretchy fabric. I am 5'10 and it is floor length on me so I would consider this a very long maxi. A medium fits perfectly, and I weigh 145. For the bra top, it fits me well being a B cup but my daughter who is a D-C was spilling out the top. My only disappointment is that it is a printed dye rather than an actual tie dye but it still looks great.(I have the black tie dye version)

I love Sanuk shoes and especially this model. They are a perfect alternative to my favorite summer shoe, the flip flop! Really comfortable and lightweight. Great for travelling too as they pack down nicely in your bag. If you are wearing them as you should without socks, I would recommend washing them regularly in a sink of warm water and laundry soap, and then air dry. I wear a size 9 and these fit true to size.

This model only has one led and no red light option. If you are looking for a compact headlamp with a red light option I would suggest looking at the Petzl e+LITE Emergency Headlamp, as it does offer this feature.

I love this beanie. It is one of my favorites! It is made of a super soft acrylic that is perfect for snowy days as it doesn't get the funky wool smell when wet. The fit is great, a little more generous than a standard beanie but not an oversized saggy type. The Pom is the perfect size too! FlyLow makes the most bomber gear and this is no exception.

I love these pants! They look hella good on and are super comfortable. The cross through venting is awesome for dumping excess warmth while tram riding or skinning uphill. The reinforced knees and cuff are completely bomber and a nice partner to the highly breathable and waterproof stretchy softshell. They are a nice standard, not too tight or loose fit. I am 5'10 and 145 pounds and the large fits great!

I got this along with the Torrentshell Pant as a gift for my brother. He works at a golf course and gets stuck out in the wind and rain a fair amount. Nothing he has had in the past has been this sweet for rainwear. It is a mountain course so gets cold and windy as well. Durability is high based on him using it many days at work!

I have purchased a couple pairs of these pants for my son. He is an alpine ski racer so needs the full length zipper. I was a bit worried on the durability at first, but these hold up well. With 80+ days of skiing per season and much of that time spent bashing into race gates these pants have been proven to stand up to some serious abuse! Great fit, very waterproof/weatherproof.

These are a great, super comfy casual boot. They are pretty warm with the fleece lining but not designed for romping in the snow or subzero weather. I really like the interchangeable laces and the fold down option adds style versatility.

I can't wear this shirt enough. The turquoise color is very vibrant and the fabric is so comfy. Because of the Merino Wool it requires less washing and stays new longer than other types. The underarm panels allow for incredible freedom of movement and I have worn this even while rock climbing. The thumb holes are perfect.
