Lisa E's Bio

I can't get enough of time spent outdoors. Salt Lake City is the perfect place for this and thankfully this is where my parents raised me, and I currently live. I love getting out in the Wasatch, skiing, hiking, climbing, or just sitting by a mountain stream. Most of the time, I have one or all three of my kids joining me. I love camping, and backpacking all over the Western US but prefer staying in Utah, either the Uinta Mountains, or Southern Utah Redrock. I am an avid backcountry and alpine skier. I taught skiing at a local mountain for 13 years before moving to a desk job here at Backcountry.com

I really didn't like the fit or look of this top. It had nice details such as a great fabric and some sweet oversized pockets. I didn't find it very flattering on. The long length paired with an overly wide flare was a little too much. It also ran a little large.

I bought this for one of the men in my life. He loves it and so do I! This is a really nice, soft, great looking shirt. The outer flannel is fairly substantial and easy care. There is a thermal lining on the body that adds warmth and comfort. The sleeves have a really sweet, slick lining that makes layering a breeze.

I have been a fan of buffs for a while. They are perfect for keeping the sun or wind off on warmer days and when paired with a heavier option these work great on cold snow days as a barrier to the elements. I definitely always have a spare available in my pocket and bag. The Campo Dei Fiori flower pattern is super vibrant and really appreciated during a long white winter season.

These Crampons are great, lightweight and really add a lot of grip to your set up. I struggled on steep ascents and having a crampon has allowed me to tackle steeper terrain with more confidence. I paired them with the Dynafit Radical 2.0 Initially a little tough to slide on, once you do it a few times the two pieces seem to glide a lot easier together.

I purchased these as an 'upgrade' to my tlt radical st, which are a great touring binding. The 2.0 FT has proven to be a much more enjoyable binding for the downhill. It feels less stiff and friendlier friendlier. It has more of the familiar feel of a straight up alpine set up be with all the sweet features you want for uphill travel. A few things regarding the rotating toe piece and optional release of the brake. It takes a little getting used to. One tip is that once you get your toe clicked in, I find it easiest to check in back to see that my heel is aligned before engaging that. Also depending on which way you turn the heel for climb mode will either allow or not allow the break to engage. I have tried both modes and prefer the brake up but did find it to be a nice feature when doing steep laps in soft snow. It made climbing a little more secure as well as put my mind at ease when at the summit in case god forbid my ski made a move for it without me on it. This binding also is great for resort skiing and I would highly suggest if you are looking for a good all around that can charge uphill in the backcountry but still be fun and comfortable for rest days on the lifts.

I purchased these because my regular sunglasses were not cutting it for ski touring in the sunny high elevation of Southern Colorado. I intended to use these only for uphill ski climbing and due to having fairly sensitive eyes never ski downhill with sunnys. Until now. Wow, these fit my face in such a way that the wind, sunglare, and snow flakes don't stand a chance. I am so stoked to be able to do ski tour laps sans goggles. Definitely not adequate for a blizzard but so sweet at keeping out wind and light snow. The sun protection is awesome as well as the transition from sunny bowls to shady trees. My eyes have not been happier.

I am really impressed with the Kenja. I ski in Utah and am advanced expert. I purchased this as a resort ski for groomer days or when the powder is less than deep. This ski practically turns itself on soft groomed snow and loves to hop through the bumps. I am 5'10 and 145 pounds, I ride a 170 and love it. I tend to prefer shorter radius turns and the Kenja can handle those as well as longer carving on steeps. I have also enjoyed some off trail powder runs and although it is not great for deep snow it handled 6 inches really well. I mounted them with the Salomon Warden MNC 13 Ski Binding as that is compatible with my AT Boots. The ski/binding combo is a good fit for me.

I was drawn to these poles for their fruity fun fashion statement. I am really impressed with the grip and the burly straps. They feel great in your hand and are really easy to take on and off. Switching to a powder basket was as easy as they claim. The fruit graphic is so pretty and constantly giving me cravings for juicy pineapples and tropical fun.

Keeps the Cold Out

Height: 5' 10"

I love this jacket. The quality is impeccable and the features are well thought out. It is lightweight and easily fits in my pack. The Gore Tex Pro an amazing job at keeping the weather at bay.
I ordered a L and it fits great. I like that my skins will fit in the hand pockets(one in each) I have worn this a ton backcountry skiing and it is perfect for the descent. It has very adequate underarm zippers that are really efficient at dumping heat so for a mellow cold uphill in the shade it is not too much. I have also used it at the ski area and love all the pockets for snacks and other niceties you may need while lift riding.

Great Skin with a Traction Upgrade
4 5

I love G3 skins. I purchased these to give me more confidence on steeper terrain. These definitely do just that. These are great for climbing but have noticeably less glide than the regular traction. Easy to line up and attach, the included trim tool rocks. Mine came with some sweet skin savers and a handy storage pouch. I think they also look pretty sweet on my BD Boundary Skis!

This is a great piece for layering or stand alone. I was a little skeptical of the new elastic thumb strap, and have since decided it is awesome. It is perfect to keep the arms in place and easily goes unnoticed while wearing. I have primarily been wearing this as a base layer for skiing paired with other layers on cold days. It is becoming my favorite top for ski touring as a stand a lone piece on the uphill. It fits well in M. The zip neck is nice and deep so dumping excess heat is a breeze!

These skis do exactly what BD intended which is perform as an all mountain, touring or resort ski. They are light and easy to maneuver and really do handle variable terrain well. I purchased these after my more touring specific ski struggled in some Southern Colorado "death crust" on my way to powder bowls. I defintely notice the dampening effect of the rubber side wall and fiberglass laminate. At high speed and on hard snow inbounds I felt completely stable, with no vibration or chatter. This is a really great ski for backcountry and works in bounds too!

I bought these for my almost 4yr old niece. They fit perfectly with or without a helmet. This is by far the best value and these are good enough quality that with a little care should make it through a few hand me downs.

Kept Me Warm

I was impressed at how well this jacket blocked the wind and kept me warm. It was perfect for a brisk walk on my lunch break. The cinch hood came in handy and it stayed in place. The pockets are a little small but adequate for my hands and phone. The fit is good for me in a Medium. The cons are that the snaps seem a little firm and I worry they are so strong the fabric may fail when pulling them open. Other than that, which hasn't been proven this is a great long coat for a good price. It is perfect for apres skiing or running around town or walking around the lake on your lunchbreak in windy freezing temps.

Awesome Skins
5 5

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have had these for a few years now and love them. The more I get out and see what else is out there in comparison, the more I love these. The G3 tip connector is so easy to use and I have no problem lining up the skin with my ski and putting them on smoothly. The center rip strip means that I am not having to use amazing force to pull them off either. The grip is great and has allowed me to feel really comfortable even on steeper terrain.
PS The graphic pictured is outdated and not current for this season.

This fits great as a baselayer for winter activities or stand alone for winter running or ski touring. The body fit zone technology works great at keeping me warm where I need it and the mapped underarm breathability was awesome for running in the cold weather today. The color is extremely more vibrant than what our website depicts. Not a light blue for alpine aquamarine but a really deep turquoise. Arms are plenty long to utilize the thumb holes which is nice.
