Lauren Weibert's Bio

Hi, I'm deaf. I'm a normal person otherwise (Ha! Maybe a little crazy), it's just that my ears don't work. Don't be afraid of me.

I snowboard, mountain bike, hike, travel... basically, I like fun!! I try to travel somewhere awesome at least once a year. This year (2015), I went to Russia to compete in the 18th Winter Deaflympics. It was my first games and I won a gold medal in the first-ever Snowboard Slopestyle event! I also picked up a Silver in Boardercross, something I never tried before! I used a jib snowboard, haha!

Returning home from the games, my goal is to try to grow the action sports community in the Deaf community. The biggest thing is accessibility- I can't even begin to tell you how bummed I am that I can't go to various retreats because of no sign language/accessibility. I would love to try to change that and see more Deaf people participating in various retreats and sports.

Speaking of various sports, I have a GREAT adventure buddy. She is an Australian Cattle Dog named Gypsy; I adopted her from the local shelter. She was born in the mean streets of Texas and is faster than a speeding bullet! She does everything with me and loves it all!

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
Fit: True to size

I am very happy with my Tonettes... I bought them on sale here for $45 a while ago and I've been wearing them like crazy since then. They go with everything!

I also wear them mountain biking, snowboarding, rafting and shit like that. They're also great for sitting in hot springs and drinking beer all day long. Great hangover glasses too!

I have a really, really teeny head and sometimes I think the sunglasses look too wide for my face, but sometimes they look fine. I don't know, maybe I'm crazy. Either way, I love them! They're my go-to sunglasses :)

Familiarity: I've used it several times

My boyfriend got me this hammock for my birthday, hooray! Best birthday gift ever!

I didn't like the rope that came with the hammock so I ordered the ENOS Slap Strap for it and it's a perfect combination. Like two peas in a pod. Peanut butter and jelly. Waffles and cocaine.

Just kidding about the waffles and cocaine.

With those slap straps, setting up the hammock is FAST. I can set it up in a FLASH and I'm loafing around in no time! My dog loves to chill in it as well. We got a hammock dog here! Also, the slap straps are much longer than the ropes that comes with the hammock, which is really nice! I wasn't able to have the hammock reach the two trees in the spot pictured below with the ropes, but I can with the slap straps.

I am 115 lbs and my dog is 40 lbs... hammock holds us both at a total weight of 155lbs just fine :) Hopefully I added that right.... I SUCK at math. Hard.

Killer Caboose indeed!
4 5

Familiarity: I've used it several times
Fit: True to size
Height: 5' 2"
Weight: 115 lbs
Size Purchased: small

I want to give a shout out to Backcountry.com and Soybu for hand-selecting me to review this piece of gear for the benefit of the backcountry.com community! Thank you so much!

I am 5'2 and 115 lbs (with a big caboose and muscular legs) and I received the size Small. The pants fit me really well around my thighs and butt, but unfortunately, they are too long for me. I have to roll them up twice so they don't go under my heels while I walk. A quick hem will fix that :) These pants are stretchy enough that maybe an XS could have fit me, but I was worried about how tight that would be around my thighs.

The high waistband helps to hold the pants up and it's supposed to flatten your tummy as well. There is a small pocket inside the waistband in the front, but it doesn't close. It's big enough for your ID, a key, and other similar sized objects. I thought it would be uncomfortable to carry stuff in that pocket, but to my surprise, I hardly noticed my lighter and key in my pocket while I walked my dog. The waistband also prevents the pants from falling down while running.

The pants fit and flatter in all the right spots and they stretch really well with me when I do my yoga in them. No butt crack peeking out here! Another cool feature these pants have is they offer UPF 50+ protection! They are also 87% nylon which makes them ideal for hiking; they will dry fast after you get caught in a rainstorm. Yoga, hike, run, lounge, camp... you can do it all in these pants!

I was expecting to be able to do a lot in these pants and they were great for all of those activities! You can even hit the town in them, they look nice enough for that. My boyfriend did comment that these pants make me look like a "hot mom" from behind... great. Not the look I was going for. :)

One thing that I don't like is how baggy they are at the bottoms. I'€™m a skinny pants kind of girl, they just feel so baggy. When I walk, I don'€™t like how they brush against each other. It kinda feels like I'€™m going to trip myself sometimes. If you're okay with flared pants, then these should be great for you!

Overall, I am stoked on them! The quality is obviously great and I am confident these will last a long time. The material is amazingly soft and comfortable. The seams are straight and they do not chafe which is really nice. I definitely will be wearing these pants for a long time; after I hem them, of course!

I needed to buy a helmet before I went to Moab and this was my first bike helmet in who knows how many years. While I'm not a fan of pink (I got the white/pink), I am okay with this since it's just a touch of pink and besides, I can't see it once the helmet is on.

I am very, very happy with this helmet! It fits and is super lightweight. I love how easy it is to tighten/loosen the helmet on the back part and my hair doesn't get tangled in it (then again, I am careful!). I have a cochlear implant behind my right ear and sometimes helmets can bother me but not this one. It's comfortable all around. It also looks good!! :)

The helmet ventilates incredibly well. I never felt hot; I felt comfortable the whole bike ride and the helmet also stays in place.

I can see that there is indeed a built-in mount on top of the helmet... I never knew about that! How cool! It's a subtle built-in mount and I haven't tried to mount anything on it yet... it looks like you just slide your camera or light on there.

I'm pretty stoked on this helmet and because of how pleased I am with it, I plan to look into Kali Protectives for other protection needs (knee guards and etc!)

Love!!

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This backpack is totally bitchin... I mainly use it for snowboarding and traveling. I love snowshoeing with this thing. There's a zillion adjustable straps and they go this and that way. You can get creative with the straps to hold extra things, like snowshoes if you're into snowshoeing up and snowboarding back down because let's be honest, splitboards are so expensive. I love my $10 snowshoes.

Anyways.... I love that I can add a hydration pack into this backpack. You can strap your snowboard vertically or horizontally. I obviously prefer horizontal. There's a place on the outside for a shovel handle and I usually pack the shovel part of the shovel into the outside pocket. There is also a place to put a water bottle on the side pocket... it fits my Nalgene bottle just fine. Those water bottles aren't small!

This backpack is so comfortable. Everything is padded and the snowboard goes behind a padded thing so you don't have your snowboard digging into your back. There are two chest straps to help hold the backpack comfortably. Waist and boob strap. The boob straps slide up and down so depending on how big your jugs are, you can slide the straps up and down in a more comfortable spot over your ta-tas. AWESOME.

I also use this for carry-on for flying all the time. If you travel with this backpack and a carry-on size suitcase, you will never need to check in a bag. I traveled to Russia for two weeks with this backpack, a carry-on size suitcase, and a snowboard bag that I checked in for free (under 50lbs and under 156cm!). I won the airline games there!

This is an awesome and totally handy backpack. Get it. You won't regret it.

I've been using this thing a lot since Christmas 2014 and it's holding up GREAT! Nothing is broken, nothing is fraying.

I saw the price, but they're made in USA and made from recycled plastic... but the price...! That's a big deal for me, someone who never spends more than $20 on a piece of clothing. So, I told myself if I won a gold medal in the Winter Deaflympics, I would buy myself these pants. I won, shit, haha, so I bought them. I am so glad I did! These pants are totally bitchin, looks great, and fits great! I am 5'2, 114lbs with muscular legs and a big ol butt, and the small fits perfect. At first, I was worried because the small looked... really small but once I got them on, they were perfect.

They are a little see through if you really stick your ass out and bend over. No big deal, just don't do that. And wear a thong.

They're amazing for yoga and mellow nature walks... I wouldn't wear them running or anything high-activity.

I was hoping that the material would be a stiffer material but it works! My iPad fits perfect in it as well as my wallet and keys and my service dog's vest and her toys. It's like a dog version of a diaper bag, but cooler. I also use this for my classes. It's simple, it works. One thing I'm bummed about though is that there's no small inner pockets or zippered pockets like you see in most purses nowadays. Everything goes into the bottom.

I got the Geo color and LOVE it, it goes with everything!

GET RAILED!

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is a great board for rails! It's SUPER soft but still has plenty of pop! I love the asymmetrical shape, it's less work turning on the heels. I also ride this thing everywhere, I am 114lbs and 5'2" and ride the 140 but feel like a 143 would be a more ideal size for everything. HOWEVER, the 140 is perfect if all I do is hit rails on this board. It's also great for going through HELLTRACK! A track with small jumps and banked turns!

I have a massive laptop. 17". My laptop actually fits in this bag! Holy cow! I got this in the dark camo print and LOVE it. I've been using it for classes, my only gripe is that the bag is really soft, it doesn't stay up so I have to lean it down so my shit doesn't spill out but other than that, I'm rally happy with it! It would also make a great beach tote for sure or an overnight bag.

Totally BITCHIN!
5 5

Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Love it. I had such a hard time trying to decide whether I wanted the double chamber or the single chamber Beeracuda.... I started thinking having a 12 pack on my back would be a little heavy so I went for the single which holds 6 beers.... 5 inside the chamber, 1 in the koozie up front... perfect for hiking. I finally got to use it hiking to the local hot springs and OH MY GOD. I WISH I GOT THE DOUBLE BARREL. I thought a six pack would be a little heavy on my back as well; I've had a bunch of beers in backpacks before which felt heavy but the Beeracuda makes hauling all the beer so EASY! I can't wait to take this thing snowboarding during sunny, slushy spring days!

The highbacks still have forward lean at 0.... no problem, I swapped the highbacks with my last year's model (which I took a saw to in order to cut off some parts that were hitting the heel cup making the highbacks lean forward) and now they're AWESOME. I love these bindings after my little highbacks modification. SUPER comfortable, SUPER lightweight. I have a really good feeling that these will last all winter. With the original highbacks, I would rate these a 2 star. With my modified highbacks, they're a 5 star! Come on, fix this silliness. I shouldn't have to saw my bindings to make them more comfortable.

Love love love.... it is a long and slim fit, very feminine and cute... and also tough looking! I have this in red and it's also really warm! I usually need puffy jackets for the colder days but I've found this jacket to be warm enough. The only thing that sucks is my zipper is a bit fucky- I have to mess with it for a good few minutes before it finally zips up. It's not even a year old, and the zipper is already messed? I have an old Roxy puffy jacket that's probably 5 years old and the zipper is just fine on that thing. Whatever, I'll deal with the zipper, the jacket looks that good.

I have these pants in blue and I love them. They're not as slim as I'd like, but they do have some shape to them and they make my booty look good, which doesn't hurt. They're warm too, ohhhh sooooo warm. I am 5'2" with thunder thighs and the small fits fine. They're great to make sandwiches on as well

If I could describe this board in one word... it would be BITCHIN'!!!!!!!!!! This board is seriously so much fun. It's like a party every time I strap in. I like to have one snowboard for everything (who has time to switch decks??) and this board definitely excels at it. I ride a lot of park but have also taken this board in the trees, hit some log jibs, rode powder in the bowls, hauled ass down groomed steeps, laid down some fun euro carves, ollied over fat skier kids, this board does it ALL! It is on the softer side, but has plenty of pop and doesn't chatter when I go fast. I take this thing everywhere with confidence. I would highly recommend this board for someone who likes to have FUN! This board may cause perma-grins!

I am 5'2" and 120 lbs and ride the 143

I rode this board a few times, and I dig it. I can tell it's different on the heelside because it's asymmetrical but I got used to it fast. It is REALLY fun to cruise and turn with, and I had no problems ollieing onto rails and off rollers. It is SOFT. That's not a bad thing though, I love doing nosepresses. I don't think it's as poppy as I'd like, but it's do-able. If you're thinking of this board, I say get it!

There is a reason that I have consistently rode the Ollie Pop for four years now... it's hard to leave this board! Ollies are effortless on this thing (duh, it is called the ollie pop) and I love how I can bomb down hills and the board won't chatter. I also love laying down deep carves when I'm just riding around and having fun. I trust this board to go everywhere; park, powder, trees, cliffs... it has not disappointed me. Everytime I ride it, I swear my smile radiates in a 200 mile radius. SO STOKED ON THIS BOARD!
