Lauren Weibert's Bio

Hi, I'm deaf. I'm a normal person otherwise (Ha! Maybe a little crazy), it's just that my ears don't work. Don't be afraid of me.

I snowboard, mountain bike, hike, travel... basically, I like fun!! I try to travel somewhere awesome at least once a year. This year (2015), I went to Russia to compete in the 18th Winter Deaflympics. It was my first games and I won a gold medal in the first-ever Snowboard Slopestyle event! I also picked up a Silver in Boardercross, something I never tried before! I used a jib snowboard, haha!

Returning home from the games, my goal is to try to grow the action sports community in the Deaf community. The biggest thing is accessibility- I would love to see more Deaf people participating in various sports.

Speaking of various sports, I have a GREAT adventure buddy. She is an Australian Cattle Dog named Gypsy; I adopted her from the local shelter. She was born in the mean streets of Texas and is faster than a speeding bullet! She does everything with me and loves it all!

Familiarity: I've used it several times

I needed to buy a helmet before I went to Moab and this was my first bike helmet in who knows how many years. While I'm not a fan of pink (I got the white/pink), I am okay with this since it's just a touch of pink and besides, I can't see it once the helmet is on.

I am very, very happy with this helmet! It fits and is super lightweight. I love how easy it is to tighten/loosen the helmet on the back part and my hair doesn't get tangled in it (then again, I am careful!). I have a cochlear implant behind my right ear and sometimes helmets can bother me but not this one. It's comfortable all around. It also looks good!! :)

The helmet ventilates incredibly well. I never felt hot; I felt comfortable the whole bike ride and the helmet also stays in place.

I can see that there is indeed a built-in mount on top of the helmet... I never knew about that! How cool! It's a subtle built-in mount and I haven't tried to mount anything on it yet... it looks like you just slide your camera or light on there.

I'm pretty stoked on this helmet and because of how pleased I am with it, I plan to look into Kali Protectives for other protection needs (knee guards and etc!)

Love!!

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This backpack is totally bitchin... I mainly use it for snowboarding and traveling. I love snowshoeing with this thing. There's a zillion adjustable straps and they go this and that way. You can get creative with the straps to hold extra things, like snowshoes if you're into snowshoeing up and snowboarding back down because let's be honest, splitboards are so expensive. I love my $10 snowshoes.

Anyways.... I love that I can add a hydration pack into this backpack. You can strap your snowboard vertically or horizontally. I obviously prefer horizontal. There's a place on the outside for a shovel handle and I usually pack the shovel part of the shovel into the outside pocket. There is also a place to put a water bottle on the side pocket... it fits my Nalgene bottle just fine. Those water bottles aren't small!

This backpack is so comfortable. Everything is padded and the snowboard goes behind a padded thing so you don't have your snowboard digging into your back. There are two chest straps to help hold the backpack comfortably. Waist and boob strap. The boob straps slide up and down so depending on how big your jugs are, you can slide the straps up and down in a more comfortable spot over your ta-tas. AWESOME.

I also use this for carry-on for flying all the time. If you travel with this backpack and a carry-on size suitcase, you will never need to check in a bag. I traveled to Russia for two weeks with this backpack, a carry-on size suitcase, and a snowboard bag that I checked in for free (under 50lbs and under 156cm!). I won the airline games there!

This is an awesome and totally handy backpack. Get it. You won't regret it.

I've been using this thing a lot since Christmas 2014 and it's holding up GREAT! Nothing is broken, nothing is fraying.

Fit: True to size
Height: 5' 2"
Weight: 114 lbs
Size Purchased: Small

I saw the price, but they're made in USA and made from recycled plastic... but the price...! That's a big deal for me, someone who never spends more than $20 on a piece of clothing. So, I told myself if I won a gold medal in the Winter Deaflympics, I would buy myself these pants. I won, shit, haha, so I bought them. I am so glad I did! These pants are totally bitchin, looks great, and fits great! I am 5'2, 114lbs with muscular legs and a big ol butt, and the small fits perfect. At first, I was worried because the small looked... really small but once I got them on, they were perfect.

They are a little see through if you really stick your ass out and bend over. No big deal, just don't do that. And wear a thong.

They're amazing for yoga and mellow nature walks... I wouldn't wear them running or anything high-activity.

I was hoping that the material would be a stiffer material but it works! My iPad fits perfect in it as well as my wallet and keys and my service dog's vest and her toys. It's like a dog version of a diaper bag, but cooler. I also use this for my classes. It's simple, it works. One thing I'm bummed about though is that there's no small inner pockets or zippered pockets like you see in most purses nowadays. Everything goes into the bottom.

I got the Geo color and LOVE it, it goes with everything!

GET RAILED!

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is a great board for rails! It's SUPER soft but still has plenty of pop! I love the asymmetrical shape, it's less work turning on the heels. I also ride this thing everywhere, I am 114lbs and 5'2" and ride the 140 but feel like a 143 would be a more ideal size for everything. HOWEVER, the 140 is perfect if all I do is hit rails on this board. It's also great for going through HELLTRACK! A track with small jumps and banked turns!

I have a massive laptop. 17". My laptop actually fits in this bag! Holy cow! I got this in the dark camo print and LOVE it. I've been using it for classes, my only gripe is that the bag is really soft, it doesn't stay up so I have to lean it down so my shit doesn't spill out but other than that, I'm rally happy with it! It would also make a great beach tote for sure or an overnight bag.

Totally BITCHIN!
5 5

Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Love it. I had such a hard time trying to decide whether I wanted the double chamber or the single chamber Beeracuda.... I started thinking having a 12 pack on my back would be a little heavy so I went for the single which holds 6 beers.... 5 inside the chamber, 1 in the koozie up front... perfect for hiking. I finally got to use it hiking to the local hot springs and OH MY GOD. I WISH I GOT THE DOUBLE BARREL. I thought a six pack would be a little heavy on my back as well; I've had a bunch of beers in backpacks before which felt heavy but the Beeracuda makes hauling all the beer so EASY! I can't wait to take this thing snowboarding during sunny, slushy spring days!

The highbacks still have forward lean at 0.... no problem, I swapped the highbacks with my last year's model (which I took a saw to in order to cut off some parts that were hitting the heel cup making the highbacks lean forward) and now they're AWESOME. I love these bindings after my little highbacks modification. SUPER comfortable, SUPER lightweight. I have a really good feeling that these will last all winter. With the original highbacks, I would rate these a 2 star. With my modified highbacks, they're a 5 star! Come on, fix this silliness. I shouldn't have to saw my bindings to make them more comfortable.

Love love love.... it is a long and slim fit, very feminine and cute... and also tough looking! I have this in red and it's also really warm! I usually need puffy jackets for the colder days but I've found this jacket to be warm enough. The only thing that sucks is my zipper is a bit fucky- I have to mess with it for a good few minutes before it finally zips up. It's not even a year old, and the zipper is already messed? I have an old Roxy puffy jacket that's probably 5 years old and the zipper is just fine on that thing. Whatever, I'll deal with the zipper, the jacket looks that good.

I have these pants in blue and I love them. They're not as slim as I'd like, but they do have some shape to them and they make my booty look good, which doesn't hurt. They're warm too, ohhhh sooooo warm. I am 5'2" with thunder thighs and the small fits fine. They're great to make sandwiches on as well

If I could describe this board in one word... it would be BITCHIN'!!!!!!!!!! This board is seriously so much fun. It's like a party every time I strap in. I like to have one snowboard for everything (who has time to switch decks??) and this board definitely excels at it. I ride a lot of park but have also taken this board in the trees, hit some log jibs, rode powder in the bowls, hauled ass down groomed steeps, laid down some fun euro carves, ollied over fat skier kids, this board does it ALL! It is on the softer side, but has plenty of pop and doesn't chatter when I go fast. I take this thing everywhere with confidence. I would highly recommend this board for someone who likes to have FUN! This board may cause perma-grins!

I am 5'2" and 120 lbs and ride the 143

I rode this board a few times, and I dig it. I can tell it's different on the heelside because it's asymmetrical but I got used to it fast. It is REALLY fun to cruise and turn with, and I had no problems ollieing onto rails and off rollers. It is SOFT. That's not a bad thing though, I love doing nosepresses. I don't think it's as poppy as I'd like, but it's do-able. If you're thinking of this board, I say get it!

There is a reason that I have consistently rode the Ollie Pop for four years now... it's hard to leave this board! Ollies are effortless on this thing (duh, it is called the ollie pop) and I love how I can bomb down hills and the board won't chatter. I also love laying down deep carves when I'm just riding around and having fun. I trust this board to go everywhere; park, powder, trees, cliffs... it has not disappointed me. Everytime I ride it, I swear my smile radiates in a 200 mile radius. SO STOKED ON THIS BOARD!

Oh God, I can see EVERYTHING!

I LOVE THESE GOGGLES. The fit and shape is very, very similar to Dragon Rogue, and the lens are GREAT. I have rode in overcast conditions and I was able to see everything fine. Same lens on sunny days too.... it's perfect. They give me the protection I need from the sun and allow me to see on overcast days, without changing the lens! No fogging, no wind, and I can see everywhere fine... I have crazy peripheral vision and these goggles do not obstruct. They also fit my Smith Maze helmet just fine.

Fun fun fun
5 5

This board has a loose ride, feels kinda like surfing. It would be GREAT in powder, I can tell... unfortunately we had a shit winter last year and the rare powder day we did get, I was riding a different board.

The only complaint I have about this board is that because it's a banana and no C2, if I hit a big tube rail, the board would sometimes feel like it's gonna slip out from under me. That's only if I 50-50 it though.... boardslide is good. On a normal rail, it's fine. Otherwise, it rides great everywhere. Jumps, groomers, you name it. I would definitely recommend this board for powder and backcountry... just can tell it's gonna be a boatload of fun there... but it's fun at ski resorts too. I really love it. This would be a great board to learn on as well. Highly recommended.

This board is similar to the GNU B-Street, but a little wider.

Amazeballs!

LOVE THIS BOARD SO MUCH! Where has this board been all my life? Right... Roxy. I totally thought this board was going to be really stiff since it is Torah Bright's model and she's a pipe rider. Boy, was I wrong, and am I glad I was wrong. I couldn't believe how flexible it was. The tech specs on here says it's a 6 out of 10, 10 being stiffest. That's about right. I thought it was going to be more like a 9 or even 10.

This board is an ALL MOUNTAIN SLAYER! I have rode it everywhere... powder, park, cruising, straightlining steeps... it performs beautifully everywhere. The C2 helps keeps the board stable when I bomb, and also helps me to lock on rails without feeling like my board is going to slip out from underneath me. I can press fine too, it's fun to butter around with. Overall, I'm just really, really stoked on this board. This just might replace my usual Ollie Pop... get this board!!!!!! You won't be disappointed!

photo of my method was taken by mark cohen. If you're regular and pop a method, the "roxy" will be right side up

These pants are awesome! They're probably the best fitting and most flattering pants Roxy offers. They're a slim fit and they remind me of Holden. I'm 5'2 and size 5 with junk in the trunk and a small fits beautifully. They are WARM! I got my Torah bright pants back in March so I was able to ride some powder in em and they were just wonderful in keeping my bum toasty warm. I'd definitely recommend these pants!

Well.... First off, I LOVE how super lightweight they are and how comfortable the straps are!  Those get five stars for sure.

Now.... These bindings still have forward lean even if it's set at 0.  Someone didn't design these right and the highbacks don't go back all the way.  The forward lean isn't subtle either- IT'S REALLY THERE.  I HATE IT.  I feel like I am in such an awkward position whenever I spin or even turn heelside.  Don't despair though.  THERE IS A FIX!

When you look at the forward lean adjuster, you will see two prongs sticking out below it.  Those prongs are hitting the heelcup so the highbacks aren't able to go back all the way.  SAW THOSE BITCHES OFF.  DIE DIE DIE.  Once I sawed the prongs off, I could immediately see a difference.  The highbacks are now able to go back further into the heelcup and -gasp- they look like they are straight up!  Could it be??  No more stupid forward lean??  I haven't rode since I sawed the bindings, but I will be sure to update my review once I do.

Another thing- SUPER NARROW.  Your boots will be stuck and you have to karate kick after you unstrap to get out of the bindings.  It's pretty funny.

EDIT - After sawing off those two prongs on the highbacks and riding them a whole season, I now love them. The old boots I had in my last review were the Nike Zoom Force 1, those are bulky boots. I got new K2 Contour boots, and they are much more slim. They fit perfect in these bindings and my boots don't get stuck anymore.

Unfortunately the K2 Contour boots are super smooth, so I had another problem. My toe straps slip all the time. It's ridiculous. Even when tightened to the max, they still slip. I cut up a bicycle tube and super glued pieces on the underside of the toe strap and it seems to help. These bindings are pretty good, but they do need a little tweaking to be perfect like I mentioned above.
