Lauren F.'s Bio

Growing up in Moab, you are forced to play outside or not play at all. Dabbling in many desert sports, I call the river home. I spend as many days as possible on the water, and thus have decided that river guiding IS my real job. When I'm not on the water, I make time to trail run and climb.

Fit: Runs large

I agree with the others, this shoe definitely run very large. I am a 7 in most my shoes, but often buy a 7.5 in my running shoes. I got these in a 7 and they were still really big, I think a 6.5 would've fit better. I didn't actually even try a 6.5 in them however because the ankle cup of the shoe cuts up too high and hits my ankle bone, deal breaker, I didn't even try on both shoes. People really love these shoes, I wish I did. :(

Swimsuits are a terrible thing to wear in water! They take forever to dry and stink if you wear them for a week on a river trip. These are my favorite thing to wear under my shorts on the river. They dry quick and are really cute. My favorite thing about them is the super wide waist band, which really helps with the muffin top situation. :)

I've been running in Asics for years, and I usually really love them, they're comfortable and quality shoes. This new 2000 line is supposed to be awesome, so I ordered this Gore-tex version to try them out. It's a really strange heel cup design and it dug into my heel so bad when I first put them on I didn't want to wear them around the house to try them out. They are going back. :(

I love Smartwool and thought this was the perfect running headband, but when I tried it on, the cut was weird. It drops down to cover your ears which is why I wanted, but the ears are weird, they feel like they're coming too far forward and it's not that stretchy so it felt like it was squishing my face. It seems like the fit is the same forward and backward. Maybe I have a weird shaped head... but I did not like this headband and sent it back.

We have 4 Marmot sleeping bags in my family and all of them rock, this one however, I was a bit disappointed in. It doesn't stuff down very small, which is not a deal breaker, but kind of surprising. The deal breaker for me is that this sleeping bag is duck down. For most, this would not be a problem, but I'm sensitive to duck down (and all our other 4 marmot bags are goose down, so I was expecting this one to be the same). Duck down is fine, I just can't have anything that is duck down, so it's going back. I gave it 3 stars because I think it would be a quality bag, just not the right bag for me.

I was really excited to try Icebreaker because I've heard so many good things about them here at work. I ordered this shirt in a size XS and it was fine but a little tight across the shoulders, and baggy and too long around the hips. I'm 5'5", and my measurements are 32-25-36. It was a really weird fit and didn't look good, so I returned it. It was soft however, and I should note that the Azalea color is not the tomato red/orangish color pictured, it's a light coral. I wanted to like this shirt, but didn't. They have changed their fit on the 2014 line, so hopefully the new ones fit a bit better.

Just got these for the Civic, they work great! I also got the Q clips to attach them to the car and am using a set of old round cross bars that have been sitting in the garage for several years. The set-up is perfect! We attach a cargo box and ski rack to them, not complaints so far. I wish this pair came with locks, so someone can't steal your whole set-up, but no complaints other than that.

Just got these for the Civic, they fit great and are just what I needed! The doors open and close fine when they're on. If you order one of these, you are getting a pair (meaning 2), so if you want a set-up for your card, you'll need to order two pairs (to get 4 clips).

I love the Stoic merino 200 material, it's great wool fabric! These shorts have a great wide elastic band that's more comfortable than thinner ones. The thing I love most about these is that they don't ride up or shift around like some other boxer shorts do.

You can definitely cut them down. They have a plastic sheath on the outside and an aluminum shaft on the inside. Be sure to cut it at the handle end (as you need the hole for the blade attachment on the other end). Be careful not to cut the handle as you cut the shaft away from it. You can then glue your handles back in when they are the desired length. (I do recommend however going with the longer shaft and trying it first, then if you don't like it, you can cut it down).

This bag is super durable! I've been using it for a few years now and it still looks new. It's got a huge spot for a laptop, room for books, a waterbottle and all your accessories. The one downside of this bag is that it has no pockets on the outside when it's closed, not even a small one for keys or your phone. :( If they made that upgrade, I'd give it 5 stars.

I just got these shoes for winter running. I'm psyched about the gore-tex. They are a stiff shoe, so don't expect them to be soft and cushy. I am between a 7 & a 7 1/2 usually and I got a 7 1/2. I wish the toebox was a little wider, but I got a sweet deal on them so I couldn't resist. You can run some gnarly trails in these shoes.

The lining in this jacket is so incredibly soft! I wish all my clothes were made of that material! It's a good looking jacket, fits well, and moves well. It also is much more compressible than regular softshells, which is nice. I bought it specifically for climbing, but because the wrists don't have any kind of closure to make them smaller, it doesn't really work for that because I can't push the sleeves up or tighten them to make them stay. Rolling them up doesn't really work. So, it's not a great climbing jacket, but it's so cozy I kept it anyway. The jacket runs large (and long) so definitely go with a smaller size if you are trying to decide. I'm 5"5', 105 lbs. 30x24x35 and I wear an XS and there's plenty of room to spare. Also the color is darker than in the picture.

I searched long and hard for a glove that was waterproof on the outside (not just a membrane on the inside) and a full leather palm, and these are the gloves! :) I actually have these in the women's, but they are the same. I use them winter rafting. They've got great dexterity for rigging and using my hands, and they are perfect for rowing. They stayed pretty much dry, but on a month long trip last year, the leather stayed soaking wet for like 2 weeks and it soaked through. (But that's understandable). These gloves obviously aren't as warm as mittens, but they did keep my hands pretty darn warm, and when they didn't, I just threw a heat pack in the glove on the back of my hand and it stayed in place. Love these gloves!
