Laurel Nelson's Bio

I grew up all over the place, but moving to the Canadian Rockies for high school changed everything. I moved out to Utah seven years ago for school at the University of Utah and after graduating summer of 2011 I started working at Backcountry.com. Snowboarding and whitewater are definitely my passions but I also enjoy biking, hiking, backpacking, and basically anything else active in the mountains.

Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Fit: True to size

I really wanted to like this jacket. The fit is great, love the hood toggles, and the fabric is great. I really just don't like a furry liner in my coats as I tend to prefer shells or jackets with minimal insulation. Awesome coat at a great price if you like a jacket that is fuzzy on the inside!

Great toy, rope is a little weak

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is a nice durable toy for one dog. The only weakness comes with two dogs playing tug o war. The rope on mine broke after a couple intense bouts of tug o war with two stronger dogs. They still love the rubber piece, but a more durable rope would be great for future designs.

Fit: Runs large

These are awesome if you are going to be walking around or standing for hours, but still want a cute sandal. The Birkenstocks provide great support and are pretty durable. I typically wear a size 10 and I went with a 40 and they fit great.

She's a beaut Clark!

This thing is great! Miika is about 60lbs and the Large fits her perfectly. She has a wider rib cage so definitely go off a girth measurement and not just weight. While she is a strong swimmer, this helps keep her above water when we go SUP at the lake and it is awesome to have the added flotation in moving water. It is really adjustable and doesn't seem to move around after a day of frolicking.

This thing is great. It really is right around 20 lbs. and I can easily transport it by myself. It doesn't take too much work to get it inflated and it is fairly stable with myself (~155lbs) and my dog (~60lbs). It tracks fairly well and I didn't have too much difficulty paddling against some strong wind.

This is my first full-suspension bike and I love it. I wanted a bike that would be efficient enough for XC but I still wanted enough travel to be able to handle some DH. This will be my third season on it and I still have never really come across any terrain where I felt the SB was lacking. I am 5'9" with like a 31" inseam and the M fits me perfect.

Essential Gear for River Trips

As the weather warms in the spring, the snow starts melting and turning into this fancy thing called water. River flows increase and a whole new world opens up for exploration. Rafting is an  accessible adventure option that allows you to explore remote places from a unique perspective. There is nothing better than looking up at huge canyon walls dwarfing your boat. You are able to get away from the crowds, bond with your small group, and really feel like you are one with nature, but without having to rough it too much. There are many ways to venture into [...]

I had been interested in picking up a solar panel for quite some time and I finally settled on the Nomad 7. It does surprisingly well in slightly overcast conditions and this was the main selling point. It is fairly lightweight, easily organizes cords and devices in the zippered mesh compartment, has sufficient loops for hanging pretty much anywhere, and the USB port allows you to charge pretty much anything.
