Laurel's Bio

I grew up all over the place, but moving to the Canadian Rockies for high school changed everything. I moved out to Utah seven years ago for school at the University of Utah and after graduating summer of 2011 I started working at Backcountry.com. Snowboarding and whitewater are definitely my passions but I also enjoy biking, hiking, backpacking, and basically anything else active in the mountains.

This thing is great! Miika is about 60lbs and the Large fits her perfectly. She has a wider rib cage so definitely go off a girth measurement and not just weight. While she is a strong swimmer, this helps keep her above water when we go SUP at the lake and it is awesome to have the added flotation in moving water. It is really adjustable and doesn't seem to move around after a day of frolicking.

This thing is great. It really is right around 20 lbs. and I can easily transport it by myself. It doesn't take too much work to get it inflated and it is fairly stable with myself (~155lbs) and my dog (~60lbs). It tracks fairly well and I didn't have too much difficulty paddling against some strong wind.

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is my first full-suspension bike and I love it. I wanted a bike that would be efficient enough for XC but I still wanted enough travel to be able to handle some DH. This will be my third season on it and I still have never really come across any terrain where I felt the SB was lacking. I am 5'9" with like a 31" inseam and the M fits me perfect.

I had been interested in picking up a solar panel for quite some time and I finally settled on the Nomad 7. It does surprisingly well in slightly overcast conditions and this was the main selling point. It is fairly lightweight, easily organizes cords and devices in the zippered mesh compartment, has sufficient loops for hanging pretty much anywhere, and the USB port allows you to charge pretty much anything.

I absolutely love this board. I took it on a 4-day Yurt trip in the Pioneer Mountains in Idaho. I am 5'9" 155lbs and I typically ride a 154 every day and a 158 for pow and steeper lines. I have the 156 and I could not be happier. It handles pow like nobody's business but is surprisingly stable on windscoured terrain. I had no issues with traction on the skin track and the shorter length makes hop turns in tighter terrain a piece of cake.
