Laurel Nelson's Bio

I grew up all over the place, but moving to the Canadian Rockies for high school changed everything. I moved out to Utah seven years ago for school at the University of Utah and after graduating summer of 2011 I started working at Backcountry.com. Snowboarding and whitewater are definitely my passions but I also enjoy biking, hiking, backpacking, and basically anything else active in the mountains.

These are a significant upgrade from my first wading boots. The boa is convenient and easier to use with gloves on. The ankles are also more supportive than other boots, so walking on uneven stream beds is much easier now. In sub-freezing temperatures, my feet also stayed warm enough to last a full day (which had been a problem in the past). I ordered the 9 and there is room for my 8.5 foot with waders.

I love this fleece. I find myself wearing it around the house every day because it is so soft. I am usually between a M and a L (depending on the fit through the bust) and went with a M since this fits a bit baggier. Even after washing, the fleece has maintained it's softness.

I practically live in this flannel now. It definitely fits large as other reviewers said. I am typically between M and L depending on the brand and I purchased this in M. It fits well, is super soft, and has a nice long fit to it.

I love these jeans for everyday wear and mildly aerobic activities. The sizing is a bit hard to get right. I usually wear 8-10 in pants, 5'9" 155lbs, and I wear a 4 for around town and a 6 for climbing/hiking. The fit in the waist and hips is perfect once you get the right size but they are a bit looser through the calves than most "skinny" jeans. I have had 6 pairs of these over the years and they are my favorite pants.

These are awesome boots! They are comfortable enough to wear all day and easily dress up or down depending on what you are doing. The do run a bit small. Typically I wear a 10 and I went with the 41 (10.5). If you are between sizes I would suggest going with the larger one.

I have a very low volume foot and finding a shoe has been a bit difficult for me. These work great and have a nice narrow heel. I typically wear a 10 street shoe and I went with the size 9 since these stretch a bit. I have been climbing in these for a few months and they have broken in well. They have been a great sport climbing shoe for me.

The industry has been making guys' boards in more powder specific shapes for years. The Day Trader is just that but for women. It reminds me of the Malolo from about 8 years ago. Super maneuverable in tight trees, fun to carve, and really surfy in powder. This thing rips and is the most fun women's all-mountain board in my mind.

I was able to ride this as part of a demo and it was my favorite board for the day. It is stiffer than most women's boards but if you are able to really flex it there is a ton of pop. This would be a great board for a girl who likes to charge steeper terrain or who finds herself riding guys boards more often than not. I definitely did not want to give this one back at the end of the day!

I love these. I have a hard time finding shorts that are long enough without looking too mom-ish. These are high waisted but with lower pockets so you avoid that mom-bum appearance. I find they fit a bit small as I am typically a 29 or 30 and the 31 is a tight fit after washing. The only thing that stopped them from getting 5 stars is that even after 7 or 8 washes they still turn my hands blue whenever I wear them.

I purchased this hoping for a nice casual shirt to wear in place of a tee. The fit was off for me. A little fitted through the shoulders and then very boxy through the body. I have a larger chest and the way it fit was just not very flattering. I ended up returning it.

This is a nice and simple t-shirt. I purchased it for my boyfriend and has a hard time finding shirts that are long enough. This one has a longer, slimmer fit so works well for him at 6'2" and 195lbs. The size L fits longer and slimmer but not super tight!

This is an awesome casual shirt. Nice and airy with a looser fit. I like to wear it climbing or fishing or around town. I am usually between M and L and went with the L for a longer fit.

I purchased these before a Canada trip to replace my leaking Willow River Waders. They were everything I was hoping for, a more feminine cut, durable material, great pockets, and a bit warmer than my older waders. I fit size M according to the size chart but was unsure if my size 9.5 to size 10 feet would fit in the booties. There is plenty of room, so if you are worried about foot size you do not need to size up from my experience.

Ginormous
5 5

We purchased this as a car camping tent for two humans (5'9" and 6'2") and two dogs (50lbs and 60lbs) and there is plenty of room. We have been using the Metolius Magnum as a sleeping pad (48 x 72 x 4 in) and there is still about 2 feet of room on either side. Setup is super easy, footprint is included, and tabs are marked on the fly so you know you are putting it on correctly.

This thing is pretty cool. You can make grilled cheeses, paninis, maybe brownies, and other square shaped treats. The only downside is that it is a bit small for a standard piece of bread. You either take the crust off before or it ends up just burning off. Either way it is a cool gadget for car camping.
