Kathy Youngren's Bio

I love running and am a member of the Wasatch Speed Goat Mountain Racing Team. Whether on the roads or on trails, I love adventure and being outdoors. Even though I have run hundreds of races of shorter lengths, I really love the ultramarathons. I have been lucky enough to fulfill my goals of finishing the Badwater 135 mile race, as well as the Spartathlon 153 mile race in Greece. However, there are many more races to run, many more adventures to experience, and much more gear to try....

I absolutely love Patagonia gear, and I wear it just about every single day. I don't wear a lot of dresses, but when I do, it is definitely a Patagonia dress. I have a couple of the Margot dresses, for they are perfect for spring and summer. For work, I typically put a little cardigan or sweater over it, which dresses it up a little and makes it work-appropriate. However, when I leave work, I wear it as is, without the sweater or cardigan, and it is perfect for a night on the town or in the heat of the summer. The only minor issue I have is that the straps are a little long for me, which makes the cut a little low. Besides that, this dress is the perfect addition to the wardrobe.

In the hot summer heat and in the cold winter air, this bottle can handle it all. The insulation really helps to keep the water inside cooler than normal in the heat. I used many of these bottles during the Badwater 135 mile ultramarathon, and in the 125 degree heat, the water inside still remained cool. I also like the insulation in the cold weather, for the liquid inside does not freeze, and your hand does not get extremely cold when carrying it. These bottles are highly recommended.

This is my third pair of Rogue Racers. I am a fan of Montrail shoes, as I have been for years. They work really well with Montrail Integrafit insoles, unlike many other shoes. I had no problems adjusting to the 10 mm drop (heel/toe ratio). Although I am not a complete barefoot enthusiast, I do like the fact that these Montrails are more minimal that most of their other shoes. The one problem I do have with this trail shoe is the sole. I live in Alabama, where there is lots of mud, wet rocks, and slippery surfaces, and I do not think the sole performs the best in these conditions. I actually prefer these shoes on the roads, which is where they work well for me. Overall, the shoe has a great fit, is extremely comfortable, and is worth trying.
