Familiarity: I've used it several times
Fit: Runs small

This is a very warm and comfortable sweatshirt and it seems like it would stand up well to a lot of use, I bought a size medium and while the fit is loose enough, it does run slightly small, my one real complaint is the length, it comes to right above my hips and that's a little short for me when it comes to a hoodie, but other than that, its great.

A quick note on TNF's hoodie sizes, while this sweatshirt runs small, the fave-our-ite hoodie in size medium is more like a large.

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
Fit: True to size

In the past, I usually bought synthetic materials, mainly because they are easier to find and a lot cheaper but I finally decided to try wool baselayers and I am so glad I did! Synthetic baselayers always leave me feeling clammy and cold, and they rarely dry as fast as you want them to, when I'm working hard to keep a pace it doesn't bother me but when on breaks or I've reached my destination, my body temp plummets and I get cold, fast. That doesn't happen with wool, it really does help regulate body temp and keeps you warm even when your drenched in sweat, and its very soft and comfy and not itchy at all. I wear a size medium and its perfect fit, although I have noticed it shrinks just a tiny bit the first time you wash it, when I do wash it, I always let it air dry. I highly recommend this product, its worth the money.

Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
Fit: Runs large

I ordered these not long ago but ended up having to return them. The main reason was size, I ordered an 8 but they had a weird fit, they were snug in the toes but way too loose in the heel which is odd because I have a pair of the Salomon winter boots in 8 1/2, they were also too narrow through the forefoot. Its a shame cause they seemed like there would have been awesome trail shoes.

I have had my venture for almost 4 years now and its just now starting to show slight signs of wear (the outer layer is beginning to peel slightly from the inner layer). I have put this jacket through a lot! Its the only full on rain jacket I own so its worn for daily use and hiking trips, it has pit zips which are super awesome, I will never buy another rain jacket without them, the hood is just the right size and stays put. The jacket recently protected me from a torrential downpour while hiking up a mountain, although I was sweating so much I still ended up drenched, this brings me to my only complaint, when you sweat a lot and your wearing a tee or tank underneath, the jacket will stick to you so I almost wish it had a mesh liner, but that would ruin the jackets packability (I frequently stash this jacket in my purse) so all in all, its an awesome jacket and very affordable compared to other brands. I definitely recommend this jacket. Note on fit, its runs slightly large, in other north face jackets along with other brands, I wear a medium but I had to get a small for this jacket and I still have room to layer fleece underneath.

Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I bought this pack for single night trips and I tested it during a 4 day hiking/camping trip to make sure it fit well etc... It has plenty of room and several smaller pockets to stash small items. The torso adjustment is very easy to change, the hipbelt is comfortable (although its hard to say what it would feel like when the pack is fully loaded to its weight limit). The hipbelt pockets are large enough for small snacks, lipbalm, a small camera or phone although the zippers need to be broken in a little, I had to use both hands to close them. I didn't have my trekking poles with me but the stow and go looked like it would be very easy to use. While hiking, I got caught in several downpours and I didn't have a rain cover on the pack, the items in the lid compartment did get kinda wet while everything else in the pack got damp, it wasn't too bad but I definitely recommend a rain cover. I will update this review after I have used the pack for an overnight trip.

This is the first sleeping pad I have owned so far and I love it! I used it for a 3 night camping trip and I was surprised at how comfortable it is, another awesome thing about it is the fact that you can easily roll it back into the size it was when it first arrived, and it doesn't take long to air it up either. It doesn't weigh much at all and I will definitely be using it for backpacking trips this summer.

I have the 1/2 zip version of this fleece jacket and it is one of my favorite layering pieces simply because of FlashDry. After a strenuous uphill hike, I took the fleece off and found the outside of it was wet but the inside was dry ( I was wearing a tank top underneath at the time) and even when I wear a heavyweight base layer under it, I've noticed that I don't feel as damp or clammy after a hike.

OR Enchainment Soft Shell

Familiarity: I've used it several times
Fit: True to size

I love this jacket, its windproof and fairly waterproof (I say this because I've only ever worn it in light snow as of now). The pockets are high enough that you can easily put your hands in them when wearing a pack w/a hip belt, and I love the chest and the inner security pocket. The hood is just the right size and it stays put. A note on fit, I bought a medium and I usually layer a base layer and a fleece underneath it and it still fits perfectly through chest and shoulders, I'm a little curvier in the hips though and it is a little snug when I layer up so keep that in mind if your 39'' or larger through the hips. Update: May 27 2014 I worn this on a 4 day trip in the Adirondacks and ran into several rain showers, this jacket held up better than I expected, while some items in the chest pocket got pretty wet I stayed fairly dry. I got slightly damp but never felt uncomfortable because of it. The only downside to this jacket;no pit zips :(

Love these boots!

Familiarity: I've used it several times
Fit: Runs small

After planning a very last minute mountain hiking trip, I realized I didn't have appropriate footwear(the boots I had didn't fit correctly) so a week before the trip, I bought these. I wore them to work everyday hoping to break them in a little, turns out, I had nothing to worry about. These are by far the most comfortable boots I have ever owned, after hiking straight up (and down), no blisters or hotspots and because of the wonderful wide toe box, my toes didn't hurt either(did I mention the extremely steep trail), they also provide plenty of ankle support. As advertised, they are waterproof, I sank in ankle deep mud/water multiple times and my feet stayed dry, they don't breathe as well as other hikers I've had though so definitely wear wool socks. They do run small, I usually wear 8 but got 8 1/2 instead, any smaller and they wouldn't have fit. These boots are my first pair of Keens but definitely not the last!

Chacos Rock!

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
Fit: True to size

I got my first pair of Chacos 2 years ago and they still look brand new, I have worn them hiking, kayaking, traveling, and I even wore them at my wedding! The first time I wore them, it was on an 8 mile hike over rough, rolling terrain and they were awesome! The sizing is pretty exact too, some people might find them a little on the heavy side.

The fairing is really easy to install and it definitely does away w/all the noise, and I have noticed the MPG went a little since installing it, it looks good too ;)

I bought this skirt for my Wilderness Systems Tsunami 140, the 36/19 size fits perfectly and the skirt does a pretty good job of keeping water out, even when practicing hip snaps and leaning. There is definitely room for improvement on the waist of the skirt, its hard to cinch it tight enough and keep it that way, other than that, its the perfect skirt for day touring.

I love this pants, they are very plush and warm ( yet very lightweight). The rear pocket is easy to get to and its big enough for lip balm, keys, and maybe an mp3. I am 5'8 and I got the long inseam and their just the right length. A note about sizing, they def. run large, I usually wear large in sweatpants but I got medium and I should have gotten small, if it wasn't for the drawstring waist, I would have had to send them back.

Astral Bella PFD

This PFD is super comfortable and doesn't limit movements. Its easy to get in and out of, it has a few pockets but its fairly simple, if you're looking for a very technical PFD w/lots of pockets, this one probably isn't for you, but if you just want a simple, comfortable PFD, I'd definitely recommend it. I use this PFD for rec. touring.
