Familiarity: I've used it several times
I was really impressed when I tried out this headlamp for the first time. Starting with the light production, this headlight shines. The first time I used was in quite heavy darkness in the rainforest and spot light produced a concentrated beam that let me see clearly at least 30 yards. I don?t know the max because I was never in an open space large enough to see the beam die. The floodlight capability was great too, obviously a much shorter range but I was able to light up a 15x30 ft. room with it. I wanted a headlamp with red light which this has. I never use it, but this also has strobe. There are some pretty cool features that I think are worth noting. You can dim all of your light functions to save battery, so when I was in my tent I would hold down the power button until my flood light dimmed to ambient level suitable for reading. You can also do that for the spot light if you wanted to. This headlamp also has a battery indicator light which will change colors to indicate if your battery is low or if the light function you are using is drawing lots of power. I used to skimp when buying headlamps, but I am really happy with this, I think you will too. This is definitely a 4 star piece of equipment and could probably be a 5, but I haven?t field tested it enough.
