Familiarity: I've used it several times

Bought these for my son mostly because he is a new climber and I wanted to save a little $$. I use Scarpa boots for my climbing in the PNW (hard shell and leather) and they are awesome. These boots, however, are terrible and Scarpa should be ashamed for making them. One season and my sons feet are constantly drenched from them wetting through. The construction quality is high but don't think for an instant these are even remotely waterproof because of the "GTX" in the title. Spend a little more, get a good pair of leather boots and treat them with Sno-Seal. Otherwise the build quality and fit are Scarpa legendary and I will probably always climb in Scarpa boots. I gave them 2 stars just because of this but otherwise I would have given them a 1... or 0 if possible. I see these on new climbing students all the time and feel sorry for them. Thank goodness for outdoor retailers and their generous return policies.

Nice hat, and I like the elastic strap in the back. It has a locking mechanism I have never seen before integrated into the clip that is pretty nice. That said, the strap is way long and flaps around in the back. It's a simple matter to trim this but then you have to sew up the end of the strap so it' won't unravel over time. Again, nice hat but it will see limited use.

I have a 7 day pack that is about 25lb. My Gregory pack was looking a little flat and empty! This pack holds all my stuff and weighs a few pounds less!

I liked: The suspension system which was very comfortable and easily good to 30lb and I liked the compression setup.

I disliked: It is hard to load as the extension gets in the way. The solution is to fold it over the pack inside-out. The pack lacks pockets but the external pockets work well. I use an MSR bladder in the pack’s hydration pouch and don’t put 1l bottles in side pockets. I ordered the Granite Gear “top” for the pack after my last trip.

Yes, I would easily buy this pack again given the chance. It may just be the pack made for me!
