No Regrets!

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is an amazing board as it should be with Xavier's name on it. It is lightweight and solid and one of my favorite things about it is the medium-soft and tapered tail allows for easy slashing on any terrain, and no speed limit when you shift your balance point to the front of the board. Most boards ride good in powder this one is a level or two up from most.

Arva went with a compressed gas canister for a few reasons, the primary one being safety should not be compromised. The fact is the compressed, and sealed, gas canister is the most proven system on the market. Zero leaking, more stable at temperature and elevation than compressed air, less susceptible to corrosion, and more blasting power (4300 PSI) are some of the other benefits. Sure some arrangements need to be taken to travel, if renting or exchanging are not a convenient option, consider shipping a canister to your destination ahead of time whether a new purchase, or one of your own.

Last, the small size of this system allows for a lot of functional and packable space compared to other packs and systems. You can pack a load close to your back and balanced inside the pack.

If you are using and old beacon, possibly with 2-Antennas, or does not feature marking you should check out the Evo4 as an upgrade. At this time it is the least expensive beacon that features TRUE multiple victim display and marking for 3+ victims. Lots of bang for your buck... Plus Arva stands behind the product with a 5 year warranty.

AMAZING PACK

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I used one of the freerando packs last Spring and must say I was blown away by its function, it is also a very efficient weight. Hiking with a few other friends I was noticeably faster on the transitions and ready to go when my friends were still attaching their gear to their packs. Even with my splitboard in split in split mode I could attach it in an A-Frame style in between 1-2 minutes because of the clip/tension system. The other thing you can't tell from the photo is this pack is very slim, so especially key for snowboarding, your balance/weight doesn't get tossed around as much. I can't say enough good about this pack, I have not been this impressed since my first Heli-pro 18 years ago.

The ultimate professional beacon

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The Pro-W is likely the most programmable beacon on the market. Sure you can put your name and phone number on the startup screen and have an extra smooth arrow with the integrated compass, but the ability to go to Analog mode and have a second frequency to confirm and separate signals if necessary set this one apart. If you do get this beacon be prepared read the manual front to back and brush up your skills each year!

This has been my go-to shovel for a couple years. For 2013-14 the shovel handle locking mechanism/handle was re-enforced. Its the small details that make a great shovel and this has it, with a ergonomic handle and shaft that allows for good chopping and shoveling, rigid serrated blade with foot cleats, and it breaks down small and converts to hoe mode as well.

Alt. Switch Assembly

If you prefer to convert your beacon from "Clip and Safe" mode to "Professional" mode, remove the plug from the webbing and re-route webbing through the back of the harness. Then, attach plug to the elastic cord as shown and replace the end cap. This gives you more range on the pinpoint search or allows you to place beacon in a pocket if preferred.

Best Snowboard carry for an airbag pack!

B Burns dropping some lines in Rock Springs, loving the 18L for quick on/off transitions while hiking out of Jackson Hole. This pack is a great compliment for the ABS Vario system, and is a great size for day trip and resort use. The straps on the 18 Liter have a grippy surface and easy access to buckles making it a very tight and functional pack for ski and especially snowboard use.
