For the 2013-2014 season the Evo 3+ added a flagging button on the front of the unit to make mutli-victim searching easy to operate with a single hand, versus the previous model which you would toggle the top switch. You are comparing a very simple simple unit with a more complex, both units are good, but if you are going to spend more I would look at the Arva Neo. BTW- the info I see on the S1 shows 50M search range, there are only 2 units on the market hitting 60 and the Neo is one of them for $350

Based on your first question definitely go longer, this ski skis a little short and with the air tips is basically easy to ski at longer lengths if you want. Not knowing more about your skier type your probably best to demo a 180 and see if it is too much to lug around..

I have thoroughly tested several lengths in the Soul 7 and you are likely best off on the line with that length and your size. In general with the 7 series, Unless you are very large for the whatever length you are on and only ski pow line is best.

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This has been my go-to shovel for a couple years. For 2013-14 the shovel handle locking mechanism/handle was re-enforced. Its the small details that make a great shovel and this has it, with a ergonomic handle and shaft that allows for good chopping and shoveling, rigid serrated blade with foot cleats, and it breaks down small and converts to hoe mode as well.

Alt. Switch Assembly

If you prefer to convert your beacon from "Clip and Safe" mode to "Professional" mode, remove the plug from the webbing and re-route webbing through the back of the harness. Then, attach plug to the elastic cord as shown and replace the end cap. This gives you more range on the pinpoint search or allows you to place beacon in a pocket if preferred.

Best Snowboard carry for an airbag pack!

B Burns dropping some lines in Rock Springs, loving the 18L for quick on/off transitions while hiking out of Jackson Hole. This pack is a great compliment for the ABS Vario system, and is a great size for day trip and resort use. The straps on the 18 Liter have a grippy surface and easy access to buckles making it a very tight and functional pack for ski and especially snowboard use.
