Phoukhong's Bio

I'm driven by the fresh morning air before an epic climb in the mountains of CO. I still wake up at 4 am to see the sunrise everyday over the Rocky Mountains. I can't tell you how spiritual it is to experience the colors that explode from the snow and rock.

After owning a pair of Shimano shoes for 14 years I finally decided to get a new pair. After riding in these for a few weeks I can honestly write a review worth reading. First of all, these shoes are stiff. Not like stiff drink stiff, but like stiff as a board stiff. They put the power down right where you need it. The ground. When I got out of the saddle and let it rip, these shoes held up to the most demanding of rides. The buckle works flawlessly and they fit perfect. I even got the same size I wore 14 years ago, and the sizing did not change a bit. So if you are looking for a great shoe for an impeccable price, these are the answer to your prayers. Just don't drink and ride.

I've needed a new pair of gloves for sometime after the dog ate the wrist straps off the old ones. So I decided to get a pair of Oakley's. I like them, they are comfortable, but after following the instructions to measure for the correct size, I actually needed an extra large. So if you are going to get them, get one size larger than usual. Other than that. They are ok.

If you have been looking for a hiker that can do it all, then look no further. The North Face Smedge approach shoe is a work horse. After 3 straight days of scrambling up Class IV rock and hiking across canyons, the Smedge didn't let up. It's Smearacle Rubber out sole was so grippy I caught myself going up cliffs I normally wouldn't look at without dedicated rock shoes, but they held on tight. Their also comfortable enough to kick around town in and still get off the beaten path when you feel like it. So if you are looking for a do all shoe that is comfortable and able to hang on like a three toed sloth , then The North Face Smedge is it.
