Jack L's Bio

Being an extremely active outdoor enthusiast since I was very young, I have been privileged to enjoy experiences with many types of outdoor activities and the associated gear. I enjoy: hiking, cycling mountain climbing, canyoneering, fly fishing, running, skiing and traveling. I am a Certified Lead Climbing Instructor - Boy Scouts of America and am presently completing ACA Canyon Leader Training. I've organized extended unsupported cycling trips; lead multiple groups of friends, youth groups and family on various excursions to Zion National Park, Moab, UT, Escalante UT, Wyoming, and Montana; Canyon Leader for multiple BSA group outings; organized numerous backpacking trips for adults and youth. Have competed and finished the Deseret News Marathon, Payson Marathon, and Heber Valley-1/2 Ironman Triathlon.

Travel experience includes extensive travel in North America, Japan, Australia, Europe, Central America and Canada.

With my varied experiences I have learned the significance of the right gear and the need for that gear to be of high quality. Sharing that experience and background with others, helping them find the right solution to their gear needs is extremely enjoyable - almost as enjoyable as doing the activity, almost.

This pant has some amazing features that really lend to a great outdoor pant. The stretch fabric with gusseted crotch make it extremely movable and comfortable for climbing and hiking. Fabric seems really durable and shows no where after considerable use.
Lots of detail. Extra zippered side pocket and back pockets add great storage. Snaps at leg bottoms add ability to get the larger leg openings put up and out of the way when climbing or in sandals. Really like the belt that is minimal sized but works great.

I bought this for my daughter for Christmas and there are a lot of straps going on with it. It seemed like there were a lot of places for it to get caught on if she happens to get caught under water. She loved the warm hand pocket and felt like it was a great fit for her though. I bought her a small and she is 5'6" and 130 lbs.

Whether you are a weekend warrior or an everyday guide these boots are the ticket. Very comfortable, give feet that extra bit of warmth when in freezing waters, and will last and last. These are the boots I wear year round and have been for the past 3 years. They are still in amazing condition. Make sure to size up to fit those thick socks and waders or booties inside.

If you are wading in the warmer months of the year and have never used these give them a try. They will change your world. I promise. These are used by just about everybody that I can show them to and talk into buying and the opinion is unanimous , they rule. Crazy comfortable and warm for cold streams on hot days. Can hike all day in knee deep water and your feel will still feel amazing. Combine with Simms Guide Boot and your feet will be in a realm of comfort you didn't imagine possible while wet wading. They also make for a great gift for any occasion.

I've had numerous pairs of Asics Gel Nimbus over the years and find this model to have the most well designed combination of return energy, mixed with stability and cushion. Would have preferred a bit tighter in the toe box with wider feet. These provided a real benefit to my knees as a neutral runner.

This bag is amazingly durable and will stand up to most all abuse, beyond what you would think a duffel should take. Made of very heavy material and very solid handles and backpack straps. Zipper is seriously one of the heaviest duty zippers I've seen on a piece of luggage, but also what makes it a bit stiff to close. Wouldn't make sense though to have a flimsey zipper on such a burley bag.

I wore these on a recent outing where we hiked several miles through sand and mud after being in the water, right out of the box, with no blisters. Worked really well as a water shoe and short distance hiking sandal. The only issue was they were a bit tight on the heel, but I don't have a deep heel so that may have been part of the issue.

I've had the normal size Helinox chairs and they are amazingly comfortable and conventient, but to add the higher back makes this chair definitely worth the additional money. Doesn't seem to add that much additional weight.
