JT's Bio

Recreational athlete who's happy to be "back in the game" after about 6 or 7 years of being sedentary and FAT! SO thrilled to again be hiking, camping, climbing, whitewater rafting/kayaking, etc... psyched to be adding mtn biking & trail running to my activities. Our goal is live somewhere that being outdoors and active is the lifestyle, not a bunch of hobbies you have to somewhere to do.

After reconstructive ankle surgery, it's been nearly impossible to find ANY shoes that fit comfortably, let alone biking shoes. I'm SO thrilled with these, as the fit is great, both supportive and comfortable. The speed-lacing system is very easy and secure. Overall, these are my favorites of any MTB shoe I've ever owned. No more painful foot, heel, or numb toes !! Sizing was right on the money, and while they aren't exactly wide, they are certainly more roomy than the more typical narrow-width shoes. The few minutes I spent ahead of my purchase w/the gear expert on chat was WELL worth the time.

WAY too late to help you, but might be good for others... I was in the exact same boat, and on advice of the fine folks at Backcountry, went for the L/XL. It is a fantastic fit, and does not wiggle at all. At this point, I'm glad I made the choice I did.

After owning several "discount" helmets, I got serious when my wife sustained a concussion from a mtn bike accident that literally BROKE apart her helmet. I know that's part of the design for absorbing energy, but not the way hers broke. I needed a helmet that would protect my noodle as I worked on building my skills and bravery, and one that would breathe enough to make riding on 95deg days a possibility. This is IT. Love this helmet so much that I bought a second, just in case I ever *ahem* damage the first one ;-P
