Hans Criteanu's Bio

As a wildlife technician and an avid runner and hiker, I spend a ton of time in the great outdoors. I am especially demanding on all of my gear, usually testing (and often realizing) its limits.

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
Height: 5' 6"
Weight: 135 lbs

I bought a pair of these to use for fieldwork in the Mojave desert a few years ago. As long as the conditions were dry, these were absolutely excellent for the first few months. They are extremely lightweight, and breathe/wick better than any backpacking boot I've worn. The flip side of the wicking benefit, however, is that it goes both ways: when they encounter moisture, it doesn't take long at all until they're wet on the inside.
The reason these lasted less than a whole field season is because I was using them pretty much exclusively off-trail - a use for which they were not designed. After only a few months wear, the stitching around the leather toe-cap had deteriorated to such a degree that debris would quickly find its way in, which was a serious problem at the time. I am confident this issue arose because of the abrasive conditions to which I exposed the boots, and they are very well suited to the purpose for which they were designed: hiking-on trail in the desert.

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
Fit: Runs small
Height: 5' 6"
Weight: 135 lbs
Size Purchased: Small

These have been my go-to for chasing birds around in central Texas and western OK for the last 2 seasons, and I'm sure they will excel this season in the Sonoran desert. They provide superior breathability and freedom of movement compared to similar products I've tried (e.g. REI Sahara). I especially like the snaps for the sleeve straps instead of a button, and the curved buttons up the front are a nice touch, as well. They could be more durable, although I understand I'm rougher than >95% of consumers, and making them durable would likely sacrifice breathability, which would not be desirable. I agree they run small, as I buy size small (versus my normal medium for t-shirts, etc.), but it should be noted I wear these with either nothing or a very thin technical layer underneath.

Familiarity: I've used it several times

Nice denim. I got the 30" waist, and I'd guess they're at least 32" in length'; I'm 5'6, and these are considerably too long for me. They're also a bit on the baggy side for being a 'Straight Leg' fit. On the plus side, I must say the denim seems to be high quality and I imagine they'll last a good while.

These have been my go-to for chasing birds around in central Texas and western OK for the last 2 seasons. They provide superior breathability and freedom of movement compared to any pants I've ever worn. The only way these could be improved is by offering them in a 'brush pants' version. I would be willing to pay a LOT for that option, as these are somewhat underwhelming in the durability department, especially when blasting through brush for 40 hours a week for months on end.

Fit: True to size

Just received it - I'll be using this for running, but I haven't tested it out yet. The white is actually white as opposed to appearing space-blanket silver in the stock photo, although it's so thin it's almost transparent: I can see my nips through it! Seems to fit pretty good, although I question how well the hood will stand up to wind - it seems kind of big even for my huge dready head. Anyways, I'm only giving it 4 stars because I'm unsure how it performs; I'll make a valiant attempt to update this review after I get some use out of it. Happy trails everyone!

This drom is where it's at! I won't go backpacking without it. It's never leaked in my pack, and I trust it won't. The cap is ingenious for all purposes and the add-ons make its potential uses even more numerous. Thanks for another great product MSR
