John Langer's Bio

My first love is the outdoors. When I'm not at the Backcountry.com offices, I'm up hiking, skiing, camping fishing or climbing in the mountains. I may have been mistaken for a Sasquatch once or twice... Utah has been my basecamp for over a year now, and before that I resided in Bozeman, Montana (the last best place).

Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I've been using the Osprey Atmos 65 for several years now, but always found myself coming up short on space for certain 3-4 day trips that required extra room. Enter the Xenith 75: the perfect amount of space without sacrificing any comfort. The classic Osprey features are all there, but the organization and accessibility of this pack make it my new favorite. I may even retire the 65 and use this one exclusively!

Familiarity: I've used it several times

When my wife first took this bag out of the packaging, she was concerned it might be too small. After packing it up on our first trip, her concerns were eliminated. This roller is amazing in that it's not very wide (i.e. won't get caught on stuff as you're rolling through crowds at the airport/on the train/in security lines) but the storage is incredible. The inside is partitioned off into several zippered pockets that make organizing a breeze. The roller wheels are high-end urethane and the whole thing just feels like quality.

Also - the tag size says the bag is 110L, not 100L.

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I got this power pack to use mainly for recharging my phone and my wife's ipad on weekend car-camping trips. I've had multiple charging units over the years, and was extremely surprised at the light weight of the Joey. I actually ended up taking the power unit (just the battery, not the entire Big Agnes case) on a 3 day backpacking trip and was able to use it to recharge my phone and my friend's phone twice. It has a sleek design and fit nicely into the smaller pocket on my Osprey Atmos pack.

If you've bought any one of the Grand Trunk (or other brand) hammocks, you need to get a set of these. There's nothing like having the piece of mind that you're safely supported during your backcountry nap (unlike that cheap-o rope you were thinking of using)

Review #63 of #63... this may be white noise, but I absolutely love these. With the holidays coming up, I got them as stocking stuffers for the whole family. Everyone will argue different times, but I personally can get 5 hours of hot (almost too hot) coffee time out of this mug.

One note of caution: don't loose the little rubber gasket inside the lid. Mine came out after a wash one time and it took me forever to figure out why the bottle was leaking no matter how hard I tightened the lid. You can get replacement caps, but it's definitely easier not to lose the gasket in the first place.
