I was looking for a North Face TKA 1/2 zip fleece but I couldn't see any colors I liked. So I opted for this as a second choice with no great expectations. I couldn't figure out what the material was like (let's face it, it reads like the back of a can of soup) or whether the fit was likely to run big or small. I went with my regular size, medium, and I have to say I think this in my new favorite top. I think it's incredibly versatile- for all activities or even just for casual wear. The black bits in the photo are actually mesh so if you warm up, they keep your temperature regulated. Even in cold weather the rest of the top has the loveliest fine fleece to keep you just toasty without being over hot. It's very comfortable as the outer material has plenty of stretch but it's not one of those tops that hugs at all your problem areas. The arms are plenty long and the thumb hooks come to just below the knuckles. I'd definitely get this again in a different color.

I deliberated for ages about whether to get a small or a medium in this jacket. I'm 5'6" and about 135-140lb. In loose fitting jackets I usually go for medium and for work clothes, a small. I went into the local TNF shop and still couldn't decide. There is a significant difference between the sizes- particularly in the length. Normally I find it's the width that changes from size to size but in this jacket there is about an inch difference between the medium and small in the length which I think it a lot, particularly if you're long in the body (which Im not particularly). In the end I went for the small and I'm happy with my choice. I wanted it for milder conditions because where I live we get more rain in spring and summer than winter. I wanted something that would look OK with only one layer underneath. I think my advice on sizing would be this: if you plan to wear two or more layers underneath and like room to move, go with your regular size. Otherwise, size down. Unfortunately it hasn't rained here for the past 8 weeks so I can't comment on its function as a rain jacket but I must say I'm really pleased I chose the petticoat pink. It's not as bright as the picture and what you don't see is that it has a really nice dark blue (not quite navy) trim along the zipper. I can see me buying this in a few more colors if it ever comes on sale.
