Evan's Bio

I climb rock and ice, mostly rock though. When I'm not doing those things, I am cooking good food, camping, or hanging out around a fire.

Athletic Pant
4 5

The Cool Creek pants have a snug cut. I'm 5'10 185 lbs. and wear 34x30s.

The pockets bulge kind of funny, especially when you sit. Not really a big deal, unless you're trying to pass these off as more than an athletic pant.

I really like the thigh zippered pocket, because it allows easy access to a camera while wearing a harness.

I've biked, climbed and hiked in these pants in almost all conditions and found them to be awesome. Water just beads right off and they move with you for almost any sport.

do they make my butt look big?

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I got these boots to use as versatile motorcycle footwear. They work great for that. The waterproofing has held up well so far and they have a nice look to them.

I've also used them for shoveling the driveway, the grip is amazing. These have a great tread pattern and work on most surfaces.

The boots make a decent approach shoe too, but they don't breathe as well as some other boots I've used. Being lightweight is a bonus too. I don't ever feel like I'm going to trip over stuff.

My ankles are bad or something and just randomly roll on seemingly flat terrain sometimes. These boots prevent that and offer great support. I can walk with confidence through wet and snowy areas.

They feel true to size.

I'll wear it

Familiarity: I've used it several times

Bought this helmet because I will wear it. With other helmets the weight gets to you after a while and you take it off. This helmet is lightweight and looks decent.

I like the fit, it feels comfortable and you forget you're wearing it. I wore it all day and never felt like taking it off.

As for the perceived frailness, I would probably agree, but haven't seen any wear yet. The helmet isn't designed as a workhorse and won't last forever.

One thing I wanted to see was the profile / backside of it - so here you go:

This helmet doesn't really work for me. The adjustment system on the back is kind of a pain to get right and then it hurts my head for some reason.

The vents on mine don't really stay put when I slide them up. You can't really adjust them with gloves and they slide poorly, then get caught out of the track at the bottom.

The big deal breaker for me is the headlamp clips. Neither of my headlamps fit in the clips easily. It takes a long time to pry up the clips and slide a strap under. Even with the snug fit I noticed a strap came out once. not cool.

I like the look and the concept, just didn't work.

This jacket is fantastic for ice climbing, wearing around the city, or even just lounging around at home. It has survived a lot of abuse and kept me warm and dry.

The sleeves are designed really well and don't slip down when swinging an ice tool. The jacket keeps you cool with the side vent fabric and dry with the very water resistant brighter material.

I am 5'10" and 185 lbs. - I bought a medium and it fits me perfectly. I can wear a light base layer easily. Adding a medium weight fleece underneath just barely works.
