Erik Barnes's Bio

New to climbing and rappelling. I got into climbing a rappeling so I could incorporate them into my landscape photography when my wife and I return to the Sawtooth's located in Central Idaho. As of now, I am practicing my rappelling and climbing in sunny Southern California.

This is an amazing pack. Just to give you an idea of the interior size of this pack... I can pack up to a 400 foot 11mm static rope inside with all my biners and harness for a fun day of rappelling. My only gripe is the hydration pocket inside is useless. I can't even fit my hand inside and there are no side pockets for water bottles. The pack rides very well on my back and the waist straps contour to my waist very nicely. I think you could easily fit a 70 meter dynamic rope and a few days rations inside for a few nights on the crags.

I am new to climbing and recently purchased a pair of those Mad Rock toe crushers. I returned them shortly after trying them on. OUCH!!!! How do people wear those things? That's like asking Shaq to fit inside a Voltswagon Bug. I searched for a climbing shoe that fit more like my street shoe and I came across these Five Ten Lace-Ups. Wow, what a great climbing shoe for the first timer. I wear a size 12 street shoe and I purchased these babies a size smaller. They do take a little getting used to, but they will stretch. I purchased a second pair of these a half size smaller this time with a much better overall fit and comfort.
