I got this jacket to replace a ripped softshell. I wasn't sure I was going to like it but after I got it used it a few time I feel in love with it. The cuffs I was a little thrown off by and they come undone form time to time but not to much of a big deal. The jacket is great for light to med rains and it is warm enough for me to about 40. I pair it with a fleece and I just did 8 hours in 27 degree weather with wind. No problem.
I owned 3 shoftshell jackets before and I only had 1 that I truly loved. Until I got this one. The only down fall that I can see with it is that it might be to warm to go running in or something like that. I got this jacket to replaced my damaged Key III from Colombia which I loved and wanted to replacement from but they didn?t have the right color. I got my $ back and got this one instead.
I am a XL person and I got the XL. The fit is not to tight but also not really loose, so I don?t look like a stuffed sausage nor do I look like I am wearing something I might have settled on. I like how warm it is but in Washington right know it is hot (July 80?s) so I haven?t had time to wear it around town. I did take it up a few mountains with snow and it held up as expected. If you are a bigger person like myself I would suggest getting this jacket, you?ll love the fit.
When I first got this jacket I noticed how much thicker it was than my Marmot soft shell. I liked how it fit, how it looked and the Omni heat stuff worked. I took it with me to work the next day with just a normal T shirt on. It was about 36 maybe 40 at times and I was really cold in this jacket! It blocked the wind and rain but I was still cold. After putting on some layers I felt a lot better.
I wasn?t doing much moving around at the time and it was a little cold for just a soft shell. I tried again today in little warmer temps (45ish) and it worked great. I was busy all day pulling ropes, walking around, and keeping my body heat up. The Omni heat really did the trick with just a T shirt on underneath it kept me warm but not to warm, dry in the PNW rain, and didn?t let any wind through. Today I really put it to the rain/wind test and it passed with flying colors!
I got an XL in the brown (I love the color), I have a big barrel chest, a small beer gut and I weigh in at around 230. The tail fits all the way down and the sleeves fit a little long which I like. The pockets are really warm and inviting.
I think the 1st time I used it, it was a little too cold for just a soft shell. The only down side to this jacket and my body type is that the armpits seem to ride a little high. After having it for 48 hours and wearing it all day to day I didn?t seem to notices as much. Don?t know if it stretched or just got use to it.
I think this jacket would be great for anyone who is looking for a really good all around soft shell. This jacket fits great and is true to the size, it looks good so you can wear it around town and on the trail.
This bag is great. I just got it about a week ago but it fits my day to day computer stuff and my gym clothes. When I don't have my gym stuff in there it lays flat on my back.
The only think I would change would be to add some water proofing.
I got an REI mug that was just like this one years ago and I love it and still have it to this day. So I thought that I was getting something about the same. I was wrong...
1st I got the box in the mail and the way that they shipped it with no packing or anything was bad, then I get the mug and try to use it and it is not at all what I thought it was. You have to unscrew the whole lid to drink out of it, that top part is just a little cup. My REI one was not like that. Good idea and I like the price but really bad coffee cup. Don't buy.
I got this for my wife and she loves it, she want take it off. It keeps her warm and has some wind stop. She has not taken it in the train but I know that I will hold up to the mountain hardwear good name..
I love this jacket and I used it on and off the trail it was a great jacket to have around. However it you don't keep good care of it the arm pits and shoulder area will get waren out. Make sure you bush your monkey man jacket!!
I think for backpacking this one is better then the full zip. The arm pits are better built then the full zip so they are not going to ware through. Both do an amazing job keeping you warm, as long as you don't have problem with wind or you layer it. I use this for SAR and on those cold nights it works great as an layer with my sleeping bag or as a nice warm place to up your head. Great product and I would get another one.
anything with rice it the sh*t
It did the job, the taste was ok at best and it was runny no matter what you do. It was good to have on the weekend trip and I would get it again. Just don't get it and expect it to be the same as if you were at home
At first I thought that these pants were not going to do the trick on a cold\wet winter weekend trip with SAR. They work great. I am going to get another pair.
I am in SAR and I used with shirt over a weekend, it worked great. In the rain and cold we were pushing our way through thick bush and this shirt held up great. I will get another one soon.
This one is hard to mess up, it taste great and feels you up. Buy it!
The pants look cool online and they felt great when I put them on. The only problem with them is that they are cut weird, so they don't have room in your butt or croch.
