Denny McEntire's Bio

I've been getting cold, wet, and dirty in the outdoors ever since I can remember. I've been a kayak instructor, PCT through-hiker, outdoor tour leader, snowboarder, skateboarder, and I've tried many more outdoor sports than that. Now I'm a father of two and love to get my family to enjoy the outdoors (even when they're kicking and screaming the whole time ;).

Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I got these for my 12 year old son for his third season riding. He's in a size 6 Thirtytwo boot with Boa laces. These bindings were almost too big. Although there is quite a bit of adjustment, I at first thought I would have to cut the to straps a little shorter, which they are designed to do. However, I found that if I place the to strap around the end of the toe as opposed to over the bridge they worked without any cutting. There was plenty of adjustment on the upper strap, and there were no issues there.

I'm excited that he'll be able to strap his own bindings this season. I'm guessing these will last for at least three seasons with all of the growing room.

I was looking at this online and liked the pattern, but wasn't sure about the colors. I saw the Navy color in a store and loved how it looked. The blue is not as bright in person as it appears in the picture here. I ordered a size medium. I typically wear a medium, but occasionally find that is too small. This medium fit well.

I have two kid's whitewater kayaks, and needed float bags for both. Instead of buying two sets, I bought this one and saved some dough. The bow bags fit well in the back of my Jackson Fun 1.5, and the stern ones (although they were larger than is needed) fit in the back of an old Dagger Dynamo. The construction seems solid too. These are great bags!

Old School Vans have been my favorite shoe for decades. Every time I open a fresh box with new Old Schools in them it's like coming home. I saw the black color with cork, and had to get them.

What makes Old Schools so great? Minimal, classic style and comfort. I fell in love with them back when I skateboarded every day. The minimal sole allowed me to feel the board under my feet. I grew to love that same feeling just walking around. Although they're not the most cushioned shoe out there, they are still comfortable; and the more broken-in they get, the more comfortable they feel.

As long as Vans makes Old Schools I'll always have a pair in my closet.

I've owned a couple of pairs of Vans pants in the past and loved them, so I decided to try out some of their shorts. I wasn't sure what style "Work Short" meant, and took a chance. The legs are pretty straight, which means they end up being pretty large where my legs come out. The length is a little below my knee. I'm more of a tight, stretchy pants guy, so these just weren't the right style.

The quality and details looked good though. If you like work shorts then you'll probably love these.

I bought a Vans button up shirt a couple of years back in size Medium that fits almost a little large. I ordered this one in Medium and it's a touch small. The flies are more colorful than I thought they would be.

Familiarity: I've used it several times

My wife is a hydration fanatic, and always ensures that our family has enough water everywhere we go. We've tried just about every water bottle out there, and this is one of our favorites. Some things that we really love about it.
* The "Autoseal" lid pours the water out effortlessly - ensuring it's easy to drink lots of water.
* The lid doesn't make any annoying sucking noises when you use it.
* There is not straw or mouth piece that is difficult to clean.
* Top-shelf dishwasher safe (although the graphics look like they may wash off after a while - haven't used it long enough to test this theory).
* Leak proof (although if you leave it upside down in a pack all day it's likely to drip a little).

Add to these that the size is just right for giving the kids in their school packs without weighing it down too much and we've got a winner that keeps our family hydrated and my wife happy.

I've been using a Hydro Flask mug for my tea for a couple of years now, and haven't ever had a mug that keeps my drink so hot. When it was time for the new school year, we figured that sort of insulation would work well for keeping our kids' lunches steamy all morning. No thermos that we've tried has worked better than a Hydro Flask.

Perfect light weight headlamp

I've spent months at a time backpacking, and have learned that making due with as little as possible greatly improves the experience. This is the lightest weight headlamp I've seen, and will be perfect for my primary light in my pack. Although it's not the brightest light on the market, I was impressed with the output - more than enough by my standards. It has settings that allow you to maximize the battery life if you only need minimal light. I haven't worn it for a long period of time yet, but the strap is quite comfortable and I don't anticipate it getting uncomfortable with time. I'm excited about this light and look forward to putting it to the test on a. Trail.

I got this for my wife and have been happy with it so far. The sound is good for a bluetooth device, although doesn't compare to the highest quality sound systems. It has some great personality though, and talks to you when you interact with it. My favorite is when it's fully charged it says "My batteries are so full right now".
