Steven's Bio

I've been getting cold, wet, and dirty in the outdoors ever since I can remember. I've been a kayak instructor, PCT through-hiker, outdoor tour leader, snowboarder, skateboarder, and I've tried many more outdoor sports than that. Now I'm a father of two and love to get my family to enjoy the outdoors (even when they're kicking and screaming the whole time ;).

Familiarity: I've used it several times

I got these for both of my kids this season. I like the simplicity of the single strap, and they were snug so there was no slipping up in the heal.

They seem to be made and sized specifically to be worn with K2 boots. My kids were in Burton boots, and so these were a little small. They had a hard time latching them on their own. I even found it difficult to latch them. I have been told that K2 boots are less bulky than Burtons, and that these would probably work better with K2s. If you're thinking about getting these to use with a bulkier boot I would consider ordering a size up to see how that works.

I wasn't sure about the 3 in 1 system initially. It seemed like the liners were just something to lose. However, after using them I have seen the light. I love having the liner to protect my hands when I need to get my phone out to take a picture or check the time while I'm up on the slopes. The fact that the liners are touch screen compatible just seals the deal. They have kept my hands warm, even when the temperature fell below zero. It's great that these come with a place to put heat pouches (and they even came with a set), but I've never had to use them. I was so happy with mine that I had to get a pair for my wife.

I got these for my daughter because her hands were getting cold up on the slopes in her Burton gloves. Although they lack some of the features of her gloves, they do keep her hands warm. They have the techy silvery lining that reflects heat, which really does work. The nose wiper is next to the index finger instead of on the thumb, which works fine. I only wish they had a draw cord to seal the edge around her jacket. However, this has not caused any problems yet. All in all a good, warm pair of gloves.

My wife got these because they are big and would fit over her glasses. Unfortunately, her glasses kept fogging up under them so she had a difficult time seeing where she was going. Thankfully she has been able to get contacts to wear while riding.

The visibility is pretty good in all directions except down. I'm not sure if there are goggles that have good downward visibility, but these seem to stick out pretty far from her face (presumably to make room for glasses under), which gets in the way of downward visibility. These are decent goggles, but didn't end up working out for being used with prescription glasses.

I picked these up for my kids to use on the slopes this winter. We wanted to make sure that they were comfortable and protected from the snow and cold while sliding all over the hill this year. They have worked great for that purpose.

The fit seems pretty true. My only complaint is that I wish they had made the shoulder straps longer on these. They seem roomy enough that the kids could both use them for a couple of seasons, except that the shoulder straps won't go any longer. This may end up limiting the amount of use we can get out of them. Outside of that, these are a great bib.

Columbia has great quality products at reasonable prices, so I love getting them for my kids. This jacket is no exception. We got one each for my 8 and 10 year old. The fleece is thick, warm, and feels sturdy. We've had the kids in as low as -4f up on the ski slopes, and this kept them warm enough (when warn with an insulated shell and thin thermals). My son loves lounging around the house in his too because it is so soft and cozy. Overall I'm very happy with this jacket.

I got one of these for each of my kids to wear on the slopes. The thin top is comfortable under their helmets, and the warm, thick lower keeps them protected from the weather. There is enough length that we don't have to worry about them coming untucked from their jacket collars. All around a great purchase.

Fit: True to size

I needed a new jacket this year, and since my last Burton jacket lasted for 13 years I decided to get another. I love the attention to detail that Burton puts into its gear. I debated between this jacket and another, but ended up choosing this one, primarily because of aesthetics.

I like most things about this jacket. There is enough pockets for what I need, the fit is comfortable, and the hood and neck closure are comfortable and do a good job of keeping the weather out.

The one thing that it lacks that I want in a jacket is wrist gaiters. This jacket does have a little elastic thing that is supposed to go over your thumb to keep the sleeves from riding up when you take a spill, but I haven't been using them much because they aren't super comfortable. I find myself wishing I had been able to find a jacket I liked with the wrist gaiters, especially since this will likely be the jacket I wear for the next several years. That said, I am not unhappy with my purchase.

Overall this is a good jacket with most of the key features.

I got two pairs of these for my kids. They fit inside of their helmets (we've just been using their skateboard helmets so far). I love that they have a sticky strip inside of the strap to keep them in place since the helmets don't have anything to hold them. The kids haven't had any troubles with keeping them on. They've also used them without their helmet and they work great for that as well.

I do wish they came with a cloth bag to help keep them protected. However, other than that I am quite satisfied with them.

Fit: True to size

My wife and I needed something to keep our neck, face, and head warm under our helmet while snowboarding. This has worked quite well. The thin upper doesn't make my helmet uncomfortable, and the thick bottom keeps me toasty. There is plenty of length to cover my neck without worry of it getting pulled out of my jacket collar.

The only thing that could be improved is that the face hole is a little tight when I pull it below my chin. However, I am very satisfied with it so far.

Fit: Runs large

Got these for my wife and she loves them. They have a great sole that is comfortable and has good tread. They are most definitely water proof, she's kicked it in the snow without having wet feet. They have a nice snug fit and the laces look cool and are quick to lace up. They do seem to run a little long, I don't think a full size smaller would have fit, maybe a half size would have been better, but it wasn't available at the time. It leaves enough room for extra bulky wool socks though.

via my wife - These boots are so comfortable. I really like the look and style, but they are too wide at the ankle for me and the height hits my leg at the wrong spot, so they looked too clunky and my foot slipped up too much when walking. I am returning them, but I am going to try the Sorel Scotia Lace boot that has the same sole.
