Merino is where it's at, hands down the best material for a base layer! It's softer than cotton, and doesn't itch at all. Best part is it does not hold odor like poly base layers. My Patagonia capeline (although nice) stinks after one use, but I can do day after day with this top and it does not stink. I'm on like day 10 with no washing and I still get rides home with nobody in the car complaining! The monkey thumbs are nice on colder days to tuck in your gloves, or don't use them when it's warmer. I also like the long zip to control your temp when you warm up.
