I just did a wall with a friend who has an older version of this bag. The differences in materials were quite apparent. The top closure system is now cordura, which is no where near as abrasion proof as the vinyl one on the older design. Other changes were apparent, but did not affect the bag in use. I feel that I got the value I expected, but would have been happier with a more durable closure fabric. Mine suffered a hole in it in just one wall, all be it a seven day wall with multiple very hard hauls. The NA wall is very hard on haul bags. I would buy this again.

The back pack system is very good on this bag. We carried 85 lb loads down without difficulty.

I bought these on a hunch that they would work for climbing El Capitan. After seven days on the wall, I can say that I have no hesitation recommending these as big wall gear. I kept them on for the entire 7 days and have only one complaint. They rotated around a bit, but I have yet to use a knee pad that did not do this to some extent. Hence the high rating. My only improvement would be to sew these into a pair of pants and I would be buying them again tomorrow.

When the strap breaks you are hosed. I am currently trying to figure out how to fix my first pair after breaking the "lace". If you tend to scum your foot on aretes, or in big holds like huecos, you will abrade the "lace" and it will break. So how much do I love this shoe? I bought another pair the day my first pair broke. This is the best heel hooking shoe you will ever wear. Surprisingly, it smears very well, and is incredible on overhanging terrain.
Buy this shoe, you cannot go wrong.
