Chris Yates's Bio

I spend my days skiing, hiking, backpacking, camping, biking, fishing and playing with my dog Jerry and my wife Sarah. I am lucky enough to have the best snow in the world to ski and multiple mountain ranges just out my back door that offer endless fun and adventure. When I get some time off of work I do my best to travel the world to find new mountains to play in but it is always nice to come home to the Wasatch.

Almost every pair of jeans that I own are Carhartts. The one issue I have had with Carhartts is that they can be inconsistent with fit. This pair fits perfectly true to size. This pair is also not quite as heavy duty as some Carhartts and are comfortable on the first wear.

I gave this sleeping bag as a gift to a 4 year old that plans to start camping next summer. He loves the bag so much that he uses it most nights. Even when sleeping in a warm house, he would rather sweat than sleep without his Grasshopper. I am not sure yet if the bag will indeed perform at 30 degrees but so far it has not disappointed.

My son is not yet a year and half old but he already loves his Strider. In fact, we have to hide it at times or that is the only thing he wants to do. Since this was a Christmas present, he is only able to ride indoors now but he will be at full speed once the snow melts. It is amazing to see how quickly young children gain the biking skills and confidence that it took us all years to get with training wheels. I recommend the Strider to anybody ready to get their little ones on two wheels.

Frye boots are not cheap but my wife would be the first to tell you, they are worth every penny. These were a Christmas gift this year and Santa received a big thumbs up.

These are made of the highest quality leather and the craftsmanship is top notch. These boots should last a life time.

As with every Marmot shirt I have ever owned, the El Dorado is cool, comfortable and durable. This shirt suits me fine if I am in the office or walking through the woods. The material is soft and comfortable and stays dry and cool when it is hot outside. It also stays relatively wrinkle free even with my folding style of wadding it in a ball. I would certainly recommend the El Dorado.

The pack is great. It is very comfortable and rides well with the kid on board. It is very stable on the ground with the kick stand. My son loves riding in it and it is comfortable enough for him to fall asleep in and he usually can't fall asleep any where but his bed. The pack is very adjustable and fits people of all sizes. I highly recommend this pack.

I gave this jacket as a gift to two different little girls. They both loved the jacket. The jacket is quite warm and will be perfect for Utah winters. The DWR coating should keep them nice and dry with the snow is falling. At this price point, this jacket is hard to beat.

I bought a pair of these shoes months ago as a gift and since then I have had two more people request them as presents. All three of them absolutely love them. They are so comfortable that they get worn from morning to night, inside and outside. I have always loved Merrell shoes and this is just another great example of their outstanding quality.

I bought this for a 4 year old for Christmas and I have learned that kids that age are brutally honest if they don't like a gift. Lucky for me this was a winner. TNF has mastered being stylish and functional. This jacket is the perfect weight - heavy enough for the little shredders to use as a mid layer and light enough to be used all summer long during the cool Utah nights.

This was a Christmas present for my wife and Santa did good. This is the ultimate mid layer. So warm and light and Arcteryx has figured out how to have a flattering cut on their women's jackets. The wife loves the Malachite color. You can't go wrong with anything from Arcteryx.

These gloves are super comfortable and very warm. The leather is very nice and seems like it will be durable. With the Goretex liner and the insulation these gloves will work in the worst weather. These gloves do run small so I would suggest sizing up.

These shoes are great. Very comfortable and they keep my feet warm and dry in the worst weather. They are almost too warm for wearing indoors but they are ideal for shoveling the driveway or walking around town in the winter. They run pretty big so if you are deciding between two sizes, I would suggest sizing down.

I bought these shoes as a gift for my mother-in-law, which can be a risky proposition but it turned out perfectly. She absolutely loves these shoes. She wears them everyday, all day. I think she may even sleep in them. She says they are more comfortable than any other shoes she owns and even more comfortable than being barefoot. I think she has convinced about 10 other people to buy these shoes in the last month.
