A few years ago I started experimenting with - and preferring - button down shirts to short-sleeve t-shirt base layers for any time I'd actually be stripped down to that shirt. I like the looser fit, a collar I can flip up to protect my next from the sun, and the option to open a button or two for more ventilation on hot days. I have a couple of other examples of this from Outdoor Research, but this time I think they're really nailed it with the fabric. It breathes great but still looks casual, and its become my preferred shirt for spring ski tours, summer climbs, and long trail runs. I just spent a month skiing and trail running in the Alps, and this was one of three button-down shirts I had for the trip.

I only own a few pairs of trousers - a pair of jeans for fancy nights, heavy canvas pants for dirty work - but I have two pairs of Vagabond pants. Their cotton/nylon blend and cut make them awesome for rock climbing, and they are my pant of choice when I'm spending a day at the crags. But they also look normal enough for a dinner at the pub or a day running errands. I just lived in a pair for a month in Europe, and they stayed comfortable throughout.

I'm a bit long in the leg (32x33), so my first pair felt a bit short for today's fashion. So this spring I picked up a second pair at 34x34, and simply wear a belt and roll the cuffs.

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've worn this jacket - and its prototype - since June and it has quickly become my go-to jacket. That's the jacket that I grab 80% of the time, and have to justify replacing it with something else. I've skied big multi-day tours and climbed long alpine routes in this jacket, and it has a degree of ventilation and stretch that I never thought possible with a Gore-Tex fabric. I'm really looking forward to using it this winter skiing.
