Chris Purkey's Bio

I was born and raised here in the Salt Lake City, UT. So I'm no stranger to the breadth of activities Utah's unique landscape has to offer. In the winters you can find me snowboarding up Big Cottonwood canyon or angling along the frigid stretch of the Middle Provo River. In summers, you probably won't be able to find me because I'll be tucked away in the Uinta's with my family or hiding in a nice river hole throwing flies.

When I'm not playing or being a family man, I work here at Backcountry.com. I'm the Vice President of Gearhead Operations. Our Gearheads are the lifeblood of Backcountry. They’re the first folks customers interact with, and the reason customers return to our site. We wholeheartedly believe service is a differentiator that our business thrives upon. Gearheads pride themselves on expertise; in-depth, technical knowledge of the gear we sell as well as a love of the activities it’s used for… Not to mention, they’re nothing short of total and complete BADASSES. These guys and gals GET AFTER IT outside! I'm passionate about being outside and hell-bent on ensuring that our team helps you find the right ski, saddle or rod.

Whatever it takes to connect you to your passion, we are here for you!

Familiarity: I've used it several times
Fit: True to size
Height: 5' 9"
Weight: 165 lbs
Size Purchased: Medium

Great touring jacket. The Lithic Comp Jacket is comfortable and fits perfectly in the torso and arms. I've worn this jacket a few times in different settings, hiking up light snow fall or deep powder or sunny days. The concept of the Gore in front and breathable material in back is awesome. They keep me dry but breath well enough that I'm not a sweaty mess. If you start heating up too much they have great ventilation zippers that do a good job at keeping you leveled out. All in all, wonderful jacket. It keeps you dry, breaths well and even allows room to layer. I highly recommend.

Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I bought this for my sister in law, this is what she had to say, "The image makes this shirt look like it's long enough to tuck in a little either in the front or back; however if you have a long torso it just looks like a flimsy belly shirt-- NOT flattering. Would have liked if it was 5" longer."

I bought these as a gift for my sister in law, this is what she had to say " The color is lighter than what is in the picture image and the fit was larger through the thigh than I had expected. These created more of a pear shape on my body where I usually am pretty straight-up-and-down."

Fit: True to size

I bought this as a gift for my brother, this is what he had to say - "I'm 6'3". 210 pounds. The sleeves are a little tight. But, I'm also the kind of ripped that gives the ladies whiplash. So, use that info how you like. ". In reality, he's not very jacked or tanned but he is a pretty solid built fella with some healthy sized arms. Unless you're a giant amongst people and are within the same size range you'll be fine on the sleeve size.

I bought this as a gift for my brother, this is what he had to say, "I'm 6'3". 210 pounds. Built like a Greek statue. It's a sweater. It has a pocket. It fits." He's a man of many, elegant, words. The sweater is a great fit and looks extremely comfortable as well as stylish - I definitely recommend.

I bought these for my sister in law as a gift, this is what she had to say - "These are great gloves! However, I missed the part about them being used in addition to another glove and I was looking for glove that was the whole kit and caboodle. Returning for a different style."

I bought these as a gift for my uncle. He's an avid ice fisherman and has put this thing through some serious use. I'm happy to report that he says this thing is durable and is keeping him warm on cold long days doing way hard work, like sitting on ice and cracking beers back to back.

I bought these for our 7 year old daughter. She has put these through the ringer and all the while her feet stay warm and dry! They are easy to get on and off, sometimes she needs help tightening the straps but otherwise they're totally convenient and comfortable for her.

I bought these for my 12 year old son. While he's only used them a handful of times, they seem great. The fit is awesome and fits comfortably over his helmet, he hasn't experienced any fog issues either. I'd recommend to anyone.

Beef'd up snuggy

Fit: Runs large

We bought this bunting for our 15 month old son to enjoy the Utah winter inside. First time worked like a charm, he's a bit of a marshmallow but it does the job of keeping him warm and dry. It does run a little large, but we don't care - he will have something to grow into and potentially use next year. We simply rolled the sleeves. The dual zippers make it easy to get him in/out of, and the hand covers come in real handy to keep those little tootsies from freezing. Over all, this is probably the cutest and funniest thing we'eve ever bought him. We love it.

I was impressed with the quality of steal and craftsmanship that went into this knife. It has a great feel, the weight is solid and it's got a sharp blade. The packaging is also really cool.
