Chris Purkey's Bio

I was born and raised here in the Salt Lake City, UT. So I'm no stranger to the breadth of activities Utah's unique landscape has to offer. In the winters you can find me snowboarding up Big Cottonwood canyon or angling along the frigid stretch of the Middle Provo River. In summers, you probably won't be able to find me because I'll be tucked away in the Uinta's with my family or hiding in a nice river hole throwing flies.

When I'm not playing or being a family man, I work here at Backcountry.com. I'm the Vice President of Customer Support, which I consider synonymous to "Papa Gearhead". I'm passionate about being outside and hell-bent on ensuring that our team helps you find the right ski, saddle or rod.

Whatever it takes to connect you to your passion, we are here for you!

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
Fit: True to size

Before these, I tried the 511 commuters which fit and looked awesome until I washed them. After which they were just too damn tight to wear. These on the other hand are perfect. Not too skinny, not too baggy. Just a good normal fit pants. I highly recommend them to someone looking for a slim jean that is wider than a skinny jean.

Familiarity: I've used it several times
Fit: True to size

I typically wear a size 9.5 in most shoes but grabbed these in a size 9 and 10 just to test it out because they seemed like they were less likely to break in. Glad I did, the 9 was far too small while the 10 fit pretty well. I gotta be honest, the first two days wearing these were incredibly uncomfortable, they hurt like shit. However, once broken in they are some of my favorite boots and wear them every time I ride my bikes (moto and cycle) - see boot on first rider below for reference.

The bodyfit 200 oasis crew is a fantastic base layer. I got mine in a medium, which was a true fit. I used it first time on the river this week. It was about 30 degrees and snowing - So, between this, my puff and a shell I was toasty warm the entire time. The merino wool is real soft and did a great job keeping me warm and dry. I stayed out for a few hours with no problem. Call me gross but I'll use it a couple more times before washing, as it doesn't stink at all. Another plus of merino wool.

Love me a good puff. I originally tried this in a Medium but found it to be slightly too big, downsizing to a Small was definitely the way to go. It's a great fit, snug and perfect for wearing both casually and as a mid layer. You can't beat the hood! For reference, I'm 5'8" and 170 lbs, I typically wear Medium in most sized jackets and t-shirts.

Trip of 1sts

Love this pack, it's very comfortable and breathes well. I have the 2011 model and while it's only 65 liters, it was the perfect size to take my 9 year old and our pup on their first pack trip to the High Unitas. While they both packed their fair share, I was able to carry the essentials for all. Access points make it easy enough to get what you need quickly without having to unload unecessary amounts. I definitely recommend.
