Chris Purkey's Bio

I was born and raised here in the Salt Lake City, UT. So I'm no stranger to the breadth of activities Utah's unique landscape has to offer. In the winters you can find me snowboarding up Big Cottonwood canyon or angling along the frigid stretch of the Middle Provo River. In summers, you probably won't be able to find me because I'll be tucked away in the Uinta's with my family or hiding in a nice river hole throwing flies.

When I'm not playing or being a family man, I work here at Backcountry.com. I'm the Vice President of Gearhead Operations. Our Gearheads are the lifeblood of Backcountry. They’re the first folks customers interact with, and the reason customers return to our site. We wholeheartedly believe service is a differentiator that our business thrives upon. Gearheads pride themselves on expertise; in-depth, technical knowledge of the gear we sell as well as a love of the activities it’s used for… Not to mention, they’re nothing short of total and complete BADASSES. These guys and gals GET AFTER IT outside! I'm passionate about being outside and hell-bent on ensuring that our team helps you find the right ski, saddle or rod.

Whatever it takes to connect you to your passion, we are here for you!

Fit: Runs large

So I ordered these in a size 32, but received a 33. I actually got two pairs, the gray and the ash tan. The gray came in the right size, the ash tan did not. It had the label for the 32 but clearly was a full size longer. Regardless, even the 32's were too long for me even though that's my typical size. I am 5 9 and 160-165 lbs. I took them in to be altered and now love them, they are my favorite pants.

This Carhartt Force is my favorite henley tshirt. It's made very well, feels super durable, and has a great cut. I'm 5 9 and 160lbs, I got a Medium. It runs comfortably large, not baggy but it fits loose in the way you want a comfort henly to fit. I can tell that I will wash it 50 times and it will still be a solid fit.

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I bought the Thule Pulse Cargo Box for my 2015 subaru forrester, it's unofficially our family wagon. As such, extra storage is a requirement to accommodate my family of five on any type of meaningful road-trip or outdoor adventure. We easily double our load capacity and are able to cram in all the essentials to ensure our trips run smooth. The installation is super easy. I highly recommend that you tighten the box before every trip. I will usually check mine every so often on a longer trip while filling up gas, just to be sure. The only real con is that it's a single sided box, so you have to open it from the passenger side. I don't really care, but I can see that being a disadvantage in some situations.

Fit: Runs small

I've been wearing the authentic classics as long as I can remember, they're my go to shoe and something I re-up on every 2-3 months. This time I tried to the authentic pro, expecting the same fit and style as the authentic classic but maybe with a different sole. I was mistaken, the fit is way off for my foot. The toe box feels constrained and it's a really uncomfortable fit. I have the same problem with the era classics. I powered through for a couple of days hoping they would break in, but it's not looking like they will get any more comfortable. Maybe these just run small? Or maybe the design is for super narrow feet? Not sure. Looks like its back to the classic.
