Chris Purkey's Bio

I was born and raised here in the Salt Lake City, UT. So I'm no stranger to the breadth of activities Utah's unique landscape has to offer. In the winters you can find me snowboarding up Big Cottonwood canyon or angling along the frigid stretch of the Middle Provo River. In summers, you probably won't be able to find me because I'll be tucked away in the Uinta's with my family or hiding in a nice river hole throwing flies.

When I'm not playing or being a family man, I work here at Backcountry.com. I'm the Vice President of Gearhead Operations. Our Gearheads are the lifeblood of Backcountry. They’re the first folks customers interact with, and the reason customers return to our site. We wholeheartedly believe service is a differentiator that our business thrives upon. Gearheads pride themselves on expertise; in-depth, technical knowledge of the gear we sell as well as a love of the activities it’s used for… Not to mention, they’re nothing short of total and complete BADASSES. These guys and gals GET AFTER IT outside! I'm passionate about being outside and hell-bent on ensuring that our team helps you find the right ski, saddle or rod.

Whatever it takes to connect you to your passion, we are here for you!

Best adventure hat
5 5

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
Fit: True to size

This hat is awesome. It's perfect for the beach and hiking and any other outside adventure. It also looks really great. Our little guy liked wearing it too, when his hat became covered in mud. Perfect for preventing sunburns and keeping bugs off of your head.

I bought this dress for my wife recently. The dress looks great on and she says it's very comfortable to wear. The one downside is that the straps fray drastically after only a few washes, even when following the delicate wash instructions. This has been a problem with multiple items purchased by this brand. They all look great, but at this price point the quality doesn't add up.

I bought this dress for my wife to wear at the beach on a recent trip. The first one arrived with a broken strap, so we returned it for a new one. Unfortunately, while wearing it out to dinner, a strap broke and the other guests at dinner got a free show. Luckily she is a nursing mom who is used to some unexpected exposure, so it didn't ruin the evening. Haha. It took me a good few minutes of tying knots to hold the dress up throughout the rest of dinner. Overall, cute dress but risky business wearing it out.

Size Purchased: Xs

I bought this dress for my wife For a recent trip to Central America.we got it in an xs, and it fit perfectly, so it seems to run a bit large (she is normally a small). The dress looks great and worked well as a swim cover at the beach and a light dress for hot days. The only real complaint she had was that the shoulder straps became frayed after only a few washes, even when following the delicate wash instructions.

This jacket is sick! I bought it to commute on my motorcycle and enjoy it so far. I've worn it on a 300 mile ride, it protected me from the elements and kept me comfortable. It does run a little small though, I typically wear a medium in most things and the medium is good looking on my but tight enough that buttoning it up feels a little constrictive.

This bag is super cool. The roll top is very accessible, the opening is big enough to get in and out of with ease. I haven't had a problem not being able to fit whatever I needed in the bag. It fits well, I've worn in commuting on my bicycle and motorcycle, in both cases I have no complaints. The only criticism I have on the bag is the front pocket, it gets pretty constrictive quickly, making it difficult to get things in and out of it. Otherwise, it's great.

I loved these so much I threw away all my other underwear and bought enough to get me by week to week. They feel great, breath well and support my junk just the way I need and like. You wish I had a picture of me wearing them to post, I look so god damn good in them!

Good shirt

I like this shirt a lot. It's a good fit, good material and feels good. Only caution is that washing does change the fit slightly. I would advice to hang dry or wash on gentle. I still wear it, but it's no longer my first go to just because of how washing changes the fit.

I spent two week son the equator with this stuff and didn't burn once. I didn't feel like I had to over apply, or reapply excessively either. Typically I'm not super good at that anyway. So a light layer in the morning did me solid through the meat of the day. The quality of the product is on point too, you can tell this aint your average grocery store garbage goop.

We took this on a 2 week trip in central america for our pool & beach days, which it obviously came in super handy for. However, our rental car didn't have a functional stereo so we ended up just using this little guy to support our 20 hours of total driving over the 2 week period = life saver! The solar panel unit seems pretty decent, I never let it fully solar charge just because we were using it so much and wanted something ready to go. The sound quality is surprisingly good for such a compact little speaker, it's definitely no base booming system, but it gets the job done and allows you access to your tunes. The Bluetooth worked great too.
