These boots are great for the average fair weather day hiker because they are entry level priced and are very comfortable. If you live in a rainy area or hike in the winter (hello Cascadia), do not expect the Gore-tex to hold up for more than a year because they will start leaking.
If you only wear them to walk the dog in the rain, then they should last years. For those of you who do more than 40 miles a month (10 miles a week) they will not last that long. But they will be super comfortable until they finally give out.

In my experience at a retailer, half of these boots came unglued around the plastic rand that says "Merrell," where it meets the synthetic fabric. I really wanted to love these boots because of the construction and style, but I really can't endorse these because of the poor quality control. I know half of you will think they are the best boots in the world, while the other half will have them fall apart after 20 miles. So I say take a chance knowing that they might need to be returned/repaired, or skip them and get something comparable.
