Chad Poindexter's Bio

I love being outdoors. I enjoy camping, hiking, and even more so, backpacking. My favorite trail right now is the Appalachian Trail, but I am planning on getting out west sometime. I plan on hitting up the Wonderland Trail, The JMT, and the Colorado Trail sometime in the future. I am also looking forward to making it to the Grand Canyon for a few nights.

Familiarity: I've used it several times
Fit: True to size

This is my first Patagonia Flannel, and I am super happy with it! I have had it about 3 weeks now, and have worn it about half the days since... My wife was even telling me this morning about me wearing it so much...

The flannel is very soft next to skin, and warm. For temps in the mid 50's it works great for me with just a t underneath it. For temps around 50 or lower, a thermal undershirt really increases it's warmth. (In fact, I am wearing it tonight to our Christmas Parade with a thermal beneath it.)

The fit is what I expected. I am 5'10" and 175 lbs, about a 42" chest, and the large fits me a little baggy. After washing and drying the first time, it did shrink up a little bit, but not enough to really make much of a difference, however, since then I have let it air dry, just to be sure. I could fit in a size medium though, however, it would be a bit more form fitting, and while that is fine, to me, a flannel should be a little loose...

Anyway, I love this flannel, and will be getting more....

Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
Fit: True to size

I was on the line about sizing when ordering this jacket. I am 5'10", 175 lbs and have a 41.5" chest. I initially ordered a size large, but then after some more thought, changed the order to a medium. Once it arrived and I tried it on, I wished I would have stuck with the large. The torso fit great, throughout the chest was fine, although, just under the arm pits was a little tight when lifting my arms out. However, I actually like the fit around my body. The sleeves were a bit too short though. With my arms hanging down by my side, it was fine, but when I reached out/up, the slid down my forearm a few inches. This was a bit bothersome, and in the end, I had to send it back and purchase a size large, after all... So, now I am waiting on it to show up and give it a try.

The jacket itself seemed fine. The pockets were a little shallower than I had imagined, and the lining in the pockets weren't as soft as I had hoped (I usually have pretty dry hands though since I am required to wash them quite a few times a day pretty intensively - this makes them kind of stick to the inside of the pockets a little.) The collar is kind of stiff to the point that I couldn't really lower my head to look down when it was zipped all the way up (and to be fair, this may be alleviated with the next size up to some degree.) I didn't separate the jackets, but I did notice that the trim on the inside of the fleece inner next to the main zip looked kind of rough... not as finished as I thought it should for a $240 jacket.

Despite all of this though, I reordered the exact same jacket, in the same color, but just a size bigger. I owned a Triclimate Hero jacket several years back, and really enjoyed it for around home/town use, and because of this, I decided to order this one now. I think I will be happy with it overall... but I shall see.
