Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
Fit: True to size

I was looking for a good multipurpose Winter boot - something that fit and wore like a hiking boot, but was waterproof and a bit warmer. These fit the bill on all counts. I have worn these for shoveling snow (a LOT of snow - it's been a long Winter here in Boston), commuting, and a couple of 5-6 mile hikes with both snowshoes and microspikes for traction. These have kept my feet warm and dry without being excessively heavy or bulky. I do wish the ankles were a bit less padded/insulated, and that the shaft was a tiny bit shorter, but that's personal preference.

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
Fit: Runs small

Got these just before Snowmageddon hit the Boston area. Haven't had them long enough to speak to long-term durability but so far I've worn them for: half-dozen or so shortish snow-shoe trips (2-3 miles each), about as many bare-boot stomps through the woods, daily commuting and dog-walking and who knows how many hours of snow-shoveling.

Pros - Good traction. They are toasty warm and waterproof, supportive enough for hiking and snowshoeing, but are light enough to be comfortable driving. They don't feel nearly as clunky as my previous boots (Sorrel-type boots), and my feet/legs don't get fatigued wearing them, but I don't feel like I've sacrificed performance.

Cons: I personally like the mid-cut and find it more comfortable to wear, but it does leave you vulnerable to getting snow in your ankles. depending on your activity and the snow depth. Easy to fix with gaiters. They also might not be warm enough in deep cold if you're not being active.

Order at least a half size larger than normal.

Love them. Love. Them.

It feels odd to post a review about boots you're sending back, but in case it's helpful:
These feel true to size if a bit wide (which normally works for me). From a visual inspection, they also seem very well made (looking at the stitching, the relative symmetry, etc.) and the upper felt comfortably snug.
However, the sole is incredibly stiff , more so than all but one pair of hiking/backpacking boots I've had previously (Montrail Moraines), and I found that level of stiffness really uncomfortable in the long haul. However, if you ARE looking for a super-stiff sole, these may be the boots for you.

I loved that these boots were comfortable right out of the box: they were very supportive without weighing a ton. There was no break-in period, none.

Unfortunately, neither the waterproofing nor the soles have lasted. They now wet through very quickly, and there is a crack across the sole at the ball of my right foot. I have had them for three years, but they've seen relatively little use in that time (the tread itself shows minimal wear).

As another reviewer said, if you don't plan to wear them often or for long hikes, they're probably fine, but if you plan to hike in them more often, I'd look elsewhere.
