While I brought this pack out for some hikes, this was mainly used as a travel pack on a two month journey (train, foot, and some biking) through Europe. The compression straps were a good system for being able to compress the bag, but you have to be careful. It can compress in such a way that a small inside pocket meant for quick access becomes inaccessible. But, that's okay, that's up to thinking ahead while packing. The material that the pack is made of seemed to be of good quality, and I am a big fan of the one large compartement. The number one problem I have with the bag is that the back is poorly ventilated. At this point, I feel that some ventilation is almost standard in packs so that was a little disappointing.
A more fundamental problem for most people is that it is one size fits all. It happened to fit me at 5' 8'' with about a 30'' waist. But, it might not fit you well, so be warned.
To add to that, only a few weeks into the trip, the clasp for the waistbelt broke. While I felt generally sure of the quality of the material, I still plan on returning the product to backcountry. It is too bad, I had really hoped this bag would last a long time.

This pack is the exact size I was looking for. For the crag, for traveling, and for some hsorter camping trips. I find the number of straps and loops and such that cover it to be unnecessary. Other than that though, it performs as expected. The hip belt doesn't fit me perfectly (if only it could go about an extra inch tighter...5'9/145), but the pack actually still works pretty well. It's not perfect, but most of the weight stays on my hips and it is certainly a comfortable pack.
I'd say to try it on at REI or some such, but it seems to work pretty well on my traveling and climbing trips around the Santa Monica Mts thus far.
