Austin's Bio

I love the outdoors. I mostly mountain bike and climb sport, but I also enjoy backpacking, hiking, snowboarding, kayaking, and of course, drinking some PBR outdoors.

I'm 5'10" 145 lbs. I'm pretty sure I'm a small according to the size chart, but I like my jackets a little baggy/room for a warm layer so I'm not sure if I should order a medium instead. I would plan to wear this with a merino long sleeve, with the occasional addition of a fleece or down sweater. I don't want to look like a marsh mellow when layered up, but I don't want it to be too baggy either. How athletic is the fit of this jacket if you order it true to size?

I really like these shoes. They fit comfortably and allow me to effectively transfer power to the pedals. I like that the cleats are flush with the bottom of the shoe. The velcro closure covers the laces well so they don't get caught in your crank, and definitely keeps dirt out. They get in the way a little bit when you're lacing them up, but it's not a big deal. I especially like the mid-top design of these shoes, I don't experience heel slip in them as much as you would in a low-top design, and they are much more supportive.

I normally wear a size 10 shoe, so I bought a 43. They were way too small so I moved up to a 44 and they fit much better. I have a tiny big of wiggle room but it doesn't take from the support. I noticed that the sizing of Shimano is a bit different than other brands, the box says Euro 44, US 9.7, 27.8 CM. Traditionally 44 is the same as 11, and 43 is the same as 10, so watch out for that. If you're going to order these shoes, I recommend getting two different sizes to start, or get a Guru to tell you the US size and length labeled on the box, as there is currently no size chart.

These are great socks. Even though they are a no show, they still fit with my backpacking boots. The merino is very nice because it adds a little extra cushion to your feet. This is the first time I have ever seen socks that are not only left/right specific, but are also labeled R and L. I haven't worn the the wrong side on the wrong foot yet, but be careful when you're stumbling around half awake in the dark. I'm sure it wouldn't be the end of the world though.

These shoes are great. They are a low-top tennis/running/skate shoe, but I mostly use them for street wear. They fit great, are very breathable, and never apply unwanted pressure to my feet. There is a slight arch support that travels all the way across your foot. At first I didn't like it but now that I'm used to it I find it very comfortable. If this isn't for you, it's only in the insole which can easily be traded out.

I got these because I was really excited about having the built in wrist supports, and they work nicely for the most part. After a while they begin to hurt (especially when you're going down a lot) and I find myself loosening them half way through the day.

The wrist supports make it a little more difficult to take these gloves off and put them on. This caused my gloves to tear on the inside from my hands pulling on the fabric. They still work fine, but it seems like Burton makes these with the intention of being replaced.

These are pretty nice jeans. They aren't too thin or too baggy for a straight leg jean. I like that they don't have a really baggy waist area, and that they have a little bit of a lower rise than normal. I got the deep indigo vintage color, and they turned out darker than the picture. Also, the wash doesn't show very well, they're almost a solid color.

This helmet is very purposefully designed. The Boa adjustment is very easy to use and can be righty-tighty or lefty-tighty (for you left-handed folk). The vents are easy to close with gloves on when you get a burst of arctic wind on the lift, and I love the option to throw in audio system that you can get separately.
