Andy Rice's Bio

I moved out here to ski after college at the University of Colorado, and have since stayed. Having the Wasatch less than 30 minutes away from my house in downtown Salt Lake is awesome. In the summers I like to hit up Millcreek canyon or the Shoreline trail behind the U and in the Winters I stick to Little Cottonwood.

I just completed my Master's in Fine Arts at the U and maintain an active studio practice. I love having the Wasatch as my playground when I need to clear my head and spark some creativity. You can check out my website at www.andrewriceart.com

I’d love to answer your gear related questions. Here is how you can contact me, my email is arice@backcountry.com or I am on the Live Chat service Monday and Tuesday afternoons (130-10pm) MST and Thursday and Friday from 1030-3pm. Hit me up! Would love to chat about whatever, but I am especially well versed in skiing and winter sports and then have a good range of trail running under my belt as well.

awesome winter boots. The style and comfort of a sneaker, combined with the warmth and traction you want in a snow boot. Perfect for transitioning to apres at the end of the day. The leather is really nice on these too, but make sure you take the proper steps to waterproof/condition it. I like the Nikwax stuff for that- http://www.backcountry.com/nikwax-fabric-and-leather-spray-twin-pack-125ml?s=a

They fit true to size. I wear a 9 in most every street shoe and these fit great in the 9.

These are the quintessential casual short. They're super comfy without being a sweat pant material. Throw these on when headed to the beach, but aren't planning on getting wet. Beach BBQs and pool parties are where you will be most comfortable in these.

You cannot beat this bag at this price! The size is perfect for a weekend trip and as a carry-on. It is also an ideal size for all my ski gear. I keep one of these loaded with gloves, goggles, layers, hats, etc so I always have my gear ready when heading up to the hill. Don't sleep on this bag at this price.

these are THE classic pair of shorts. The fit is great; not too baggy, but not tight either. I can transition from the golf course to the bar to dinner with some fly honey's seamlessly.

Throw your other shorts out and replace with these. You will want a pair in every color.

These gummies are the best! Provide energy and sustenance on the trail without being somewhat messy like a gel can be, and not dry like a cookie, or bar can be. Not only do they work as good, if not better than advertised, they are delicious as well. Get a couple cases in different flavors to keep around and throw in your pack, glove box, jacket pocket, etc.

These pants are the best. Stretchy enough fabric to accommodate any range of movement, but is still durable, like a good pair of work pants or denim should be. The fit is great too. I was a little unsure the first time I put them on, but after a couple weeks in them, they have molded to my body and look and fit exactly how I want. 10/10

Gold is no good :(

The goldfinger color is just a thin plasticky laminate and has flaked off the gloves after about 2-3 days riding. Also, the zipper across the palm is failing just a touch. Otherwise, they are warm and waterproof, and still look good on the top of the glove. If I get another pair, it will definitely be in another colorway.

This is decent belt but the clip system allows for some slack to develop in the fit. My pants feel looser at the end of the day then they did at the beginning. It's not bad, though. I would recommend picking it up if you are looking for an alternative to a heavy, leather belt. The stretch is really nice and comfy around the waist.

breaking in

performance + comfort.

Just lounging around, breaking in my new boots in my Poler Nap Sack (tem # POP0009). Sized down to a 25.5 this season after riding this same boot in 26.5 for a number of years. Tight out of the box, but overall a good, tight fit- what you want in a high performance boot like this. My street shoe is a 9-9.5, running shoe is a 9.5-10, so sizing down from shoe size to the boots. I will get them heat molded to get the best fit out of the liner as well and report back after that.

hit me up on the chat , or shoot me an email (arice@backcountry.com) if you want to talk more about the boots, or set up an order. http://www.backcountry.com/Store/community/userProfile.jsp?profileId=5558600
