Andy Rice's Bio

I moved out here to ski after college at the University of Colorado, and have since stayed. Having the Wasatch less than 30 minutes away from my house in downtown Salt Lake is awesome. In the summers I like to hit up Millcreek canyon or the Shoreline trail behind the U and in the Winters I stick to Little Cottonwood.

I just completed my Master's in Fine Arts at the U and maintain an active studio practice. I love having the Wasatch as my playground when I need to clear my head and spark some creativity. You can check out my website at www.andrewriceart.com

I’d love to answer your gear related questions. Here is how you can contact me, my email is arice@backcountry.com or I am on the Live Chat service Monday and Tuesday afternoons (130-10pm) MST and Thursday and Friday from 1030-3pm. Hit me up! Would love to chat about whatever, but I am especially well versed in skiing and winter sports and then have a good range of trail running under my belt as well.

hit me up on IG @purplehat

email me here for any other questions if I am not online to chat via the 'Email' tab at the top-right of the profile screen here. arice@backcountry.com

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
Fit: True to size

This is decent belt but the clip system allows for some slack to develop in the fit. My pants feel looser at the end of the day then they did at the beginning. It's not bad, though. I would recommend picking it up if you are looking for an alternative to a heavy, leather belt. The stretch is really nice and comfy around the waist.

I add a pair of these socks to every order I make. Soft, comfortable and the wool is great. The wool doesn't stink or get 'stiff' with casual wear and I will often go two or three days a row in the same pair when I don't want to do laundry...

Shoe size is 9
Running shoe is 10+
Ski boot size 25-26

I wear these in the M/L because I don't want a tight, restrictive fit on them for casual wear.

breaking in

performance + comfort.

Just lounging around, breaking in my new boots in my Poler Nap Sack (tem # POP0009). Sized down to a 25.5 this season after riding this same boot in 26.5 for a number of years. Tight out of the box, but overall a good, tight fit- what you want in a high performance boot like this. My street shoe is a 9-9.5, running shoe is a 9.5-10, so sizing down from shoe size to the boots. I will get them heat molded to get the best fit out of the liner as well and report back after that.

hit me up on the chat , or shoot me an email (arice@backcountry.com) if you want to talk more about the boots, or set up an order. http://www.backcountry.com/Store/community/userProfile.jsp?profileId=5558600

I asked around here and found out that since this canister is shipping empty, we can ship it internationally. If anyone has any questions on the brands we cannot ship out of the US, check this link out; http://sales.liveperson.net/hc/s-9551721/cmd/kbresource/kb-313270705576474737/view_question!PAGETYPE?sc=120&sp=94&sf=101133&documentid=239527&action=view&VisitorProfile=BCS2&MESSAGEVAR!home=yes&MESSAGEVAR!cookie=no&MESSAGEVAR!docid=239527

This bag really is a black hole. You can keep stuffing gear and clothes in to your hearts desire and seem to always find room for more. Super durable as well. One of the best duffels out there. Patagonia makes some of the best gear with an ethical and moral commitment to sustainability in their practices as well.

Helios in action

Still going strong on these after 11 months of use! I 'upgraded' from the Vertikal K. More protection in the sole but still maintains its minimal feel. I usually run on the Shoreline trail on the east bench behind SLC, UT and stick to runs under 10 miles. I take out my Nathan water bottle, which keeps a nice, minimal set up. NAT0040
