Andrew Mark's Bio

Born and raised in Salt Lake City, I grew up snowboarding, hiking, backpacking, climbing, kayaking and generally romping about the woods. After spending four years in the Pacific Northwest for school I came back to Utah, though I still love the PNW and visit often. I started as a Gearhead here at Backcountry, and am now a Senior Analyst in our Fraud department.

Get out, stay out, and spread the stoke.

I started buying Brixton hats, and now I've moved on to shirts. It's a simple T-shirt with a simple, stylish design. I love the slim and longer fit in the torso, and the material is soft and comfortable and stays that way after repeated washings. I'll keep adding to my collection of Brixton apparel.

It's gotten to the point where pretty much all of my casual shoes are Vans in some form or another. I've bought these shoes before, and I'll buy another pair when these bite the dust. They're great for summer casual wear, easy to slip on and off, and are comfortable. Fit true to size.

Bought one of these before snowboard season, because let's face it, when it's cold out we all can use a little nip of whiskey on the lift. Graphic is cool, it doesn't leak, and it fits in your jacket pocket.

Crocodile Dundee would be proud. I picked up this knife for everyday use, as well as backpacking/camping, etc. Fits comfortably and discreetly in your pocket. Has great weight to it. I wasn't sure about the locking mechanism on the blade at first, but after I mastered it, it's super easy and quick to open, just like any other blade. And it won't go off in your pocket!

I treated myself to one of these bad boys recently and I couldn't be more stoked. It's really stylish, and great for everyday use but looks just as great with suit for a nice night out. It's easy to set and calibrate, and keeps great time. Definite recommend to anyone in the market for an upscale watch.

Bought these as a gift for a friend of mine who is just starting to get serious about her climbing. Even though these are a men's shoe, she has larger feet with a wider toebox and couldn't find something that fit well for indoor climbing. I picked these out for her and she absolutely loves them. They fit true to the size chart and like I said, are great for a wider foot.

These are hands down, without a doubt the best purchase I've made for myself this year. There is no better lens-changing system on the market, the field of view is amazing, they don't fog up, and they look fly as hell to boot. Anon really knocked it out of the park with these. I've used the Smith IOs and Oakley Airbrakes, and these goggles are by far and away the best pair I've ever used.

Bought these for myself this season. Awesome pants. They fit well (I am 6'0, 32 inch waist, 180lb and I purchased a large). They're durable, have great pockets. The one thing i've noticed is that the zippers can get snagged if you're trying to open/close them in a seated position, but it's not a real problem. If you're gonna buy these, I'd also suggest buying a Volcom jacket so that you can take full advantage of their Zip-tech technology and keep that blower powder out from ya bum!

Bought these for myself this year. After some good use, I definitely don't regret it. They're comfortable, warm, stylish. They fit true to size. My one complaint is that they don't breathe quite as well as I'd hoped, but my hands are also naturally on the sweaty-side to begin with. That being said, I do not regret purchasing these in the least, and given the price point, would absolutely do it again.

I bought this shirt as a gift for a family member over the holidays. After a bit more than a month of wearing it, they have nothing bad to say about it. Warm, stylish, functional piece that you can wear around town or up in the mountains. Fits true to size if you're wearing an undershirt underneath it.

I bought this for my brother for Christmas this year, and he loves it. He's not the most outdoorsy type, but he loves having a functional piece that also looks great to wear out in a nice, but casual setting. The shirt is nice and warm, great for fall/winter and he's received a number of compliments on it. Comfortable, and fits true to size, especially if you have an undershirt on underneath.

Bought these as a gift for a family member of mine. Being Oakley, the quality is top-notch (as is the price). The person I bought them for has a pretty normal face as far as width, and these stay in place on his face (see what I did there?). Stylish as always, and the polarization is great for driving/fishing.

Just picked up a pair of these and I really like them. The slim fit is stylish without looking like those super skinny-jeans. Fit true to size, I wear a 32 and they fit true to size. I got the "black coffee" color, which is basically brown -- just what I wanted. Nothing groundbreaking, but hey, they're just pants.

One of my friends has these quickdraws, and after I used them once I knew I needed some of my own. They’re super lightweight and easy to clip, especially their gates. I have 12 total, and I’m sad that I won’t need to get more because I love them so much. If you’re looking for some draws to add to your rack, look no further.

I love these carabiners, and all of my friends are always asking me to use them when we go climbing. They’re super easy to clip, and I am always happy when I get to set an anchor with them or use them to belay a partner. They’re a must-have for your first sport- or trad-rack.

I got one of these as a gift for a friend of mine, and she really likes it. I ordered her the white option, and she thinks that it looks great and fits well. She hasn’t taken any blows with it on yet (luckily), but she thinks the helmet would protect her in rock fall or a lead fall.

I have a 9.5-millimeter rope, and this Grigri works perfectly with it. There is a bit of a learning curve—at least there was for me—when it comes to lead belaying with it, but it’s nothing too complicated. Petzl makes high-quality products, and this device is no exception.
