Andrew Mark's Bio

Born and raised in Salt Lake City, I grew up hiking, backpacking, climbing, kayaing and generally romping about the woods. I took a four year stint in college in Tacoma, WA where I majored in Biology with minors in both Tomfoolery and Shenanigans (Ultimate Frisbee). I'm now back in Salt Lake, playing Ultimate and romping in the mountains whenever I get a chance.

I needed some shades in a pinch for an upcoming trip to Vegas. These inexpensive Spicolis were just the ticket. Super fashionable, comfortable and a great fit for medium/larger faces. The construction is also very durable; these bad boys are in it for the long haul.

I gave these boots to my girlfriend as a gift for an upcoming trip she was going on. They kept her feet comfortable and dry for the duration of the trip that included 10 mile days with elevation gain/loss. No blisters and no wet, achy feet. The ankle support is also great for those of us with less-than-bombproof ankles.

Fit true to size, and for the pricepoint they are awesome.

Osprey packs are my absolute favorite packs on the market. I gave this as a gift to a friend of mine who needed an awesome pack for short-medium length backpacking trips, and she is now an Osprey lover as well. Their packs are the most comfortable, super lightweight and incredibly durable with great utility. I plan on upgrading my old pack to the Aether this summer.

The sizing charts for all Osprey packs are accurate.

The I/O series from Smith are all in all some of the best goggles I've ever used - hence why I gave this pair as a gift! These goggles have some of the best fields of vision of any pair of goggles I've ever used and the lens swaps out super quickly and easily.

Of course, with all the different color schemes available, you won't need to sacrifice swag for function. Need a sweet pair of goggles? Look no further than the I/O line.

These gloves are great for a day or night out, when you need something to keep you warm when you get in your cold car before or after work. Or if you're walking the dog, etc. Very warm and completely windproof and water resistant, these are a great glove for day to day activities. If you're looking for something to shovel snow, or do any sort of winter activity (skiing, boarding, etc) - definitely get something heavier duty.

The added grip on the palm and fingers of the gloves is great as well.

Definitely worth printing out the size guide that North Face supplies to pick the correct size!

What is there to say? If you want a beanie, look no further than Discrete. Awesome company with awesome products. This one fits a bit looser so if you have a larger head or just like that look, this is a great option.

Everything that I own from Discrete is warm and comfortable, so you can't go wrong.

Fit: Runs small

I bought this jacket for my girlfriend as a present. She's just getting into camping/backpacking - and wanted something serviceable that wouldn't break the bank. This jacket is just the ticket. Keeps her dry and isn't heavy or bulky.

The torso runs a bit on the short side, but not by much. If you're planning on layering, I'd advise sizing up. Or buying two and trying them on for fit.

I picked this flannel up for this coming winter and fall, and it's awesome. It's nice and warm, as well as very comfortable. The colors are great and I love the slimmer fit in the torso than most other flannels. I'm 6'0, 180lb and the large is excellent. I'm considering picking up another in a different color - the price is great and the product is even better.

Picked this hoodie up for fall this year, and I couldn't be happier. It's incredibly soft/comfortable (my girlfriend frequently tries to take it and wear it herself), and it's super warm. Even after a few washes when most sweatshirts lose that new, soft fuzz - this one is going strong.

I love the longer fit in the torso, super stylish. I'm 6'0, 180lb and the large is awesome.

Picked this up to hold up my pants and it does just that. Easy to get on and off, and does its job. Unlike belts with similar buckles, this one is strong and won't crap out on you after extended use. I have a 32'' waist and I've got PLENTY of room in this belt.

Leave it to Vans to make a simple, quality product.

Picked up this shirt for some layering while hitting the town this coming winter. It's made from soft material that's very comfortable. I've received a number of complements from friends and strangers on the fit and overall look of this shirt. It fits true to size, I am 6'0, 180lb and a large is perfect.

Definitely going to be rocking this shirt in the future.

Just bought this wrap as a birthday gift for my mom. She absolutely loves it. The merino is incredibly fine and soft - it doesn't feel like normal wool at all -- and it's a sustainable, natural resource from some pretty incredible New Zealand sheep.

One of the best parts of this wrap is it's versatility, you can really wear it a number of different ways. From open in the front, to wrapped across the front of your body. It's great for those cool fall/spring days - or when you just want to be cozied up.

It fits true to size, and is a truly unique piece of clothing. Icebreaker does it again.

Just recently picked up these headphones and so far, I'm a huge fan. I've had several Skullcandy products in the past, most notably the Crushers (the ones with the built in woofer) as well as some of their buds. These have been my favorite pair of headphones from them yet.

They're super comfortable (I've worn them for pretty much 8 hours straight on my shifts at work) and the sound quality is awesome. I'd say it is better than any of the buds, as well as the Crushers. You don't get the built in subwoofer, but if mind-numbing bass that runs on a AA battery isn't a priority, I'd definitely recommend these.

Plus, if you're a Salt Lake local, Skullcandy's lifetime warranty is awesome. If they break on you, you can take them up to Skullcandy for a credit or swap them for a new pair. Or, if you're not a local, we at Backcountry have you covered with our sweet policy as well.

I own about 5 of these beanies total for two reasons: they're super comfortable, and I get a ton of compliments on them. I love the vibrant colors and the fit. Keeps my head warm and cozy all day long. Definitely a longer-roomier beanie too, for those looking for that.
Also, Discrete is an awesome, local company. Great to rep their stuff here in the Wasatch!

I picked up a pair of these last fall to wear during Ultimate games in the Pacific Northwest. I wore these about 5 days a week for several months and absolutely loved them. They're awesome for keeping the cold and wet away, and because of the high quality merino wool, they don't trap odor like most synthetics do.

The fit is very true to size and lines up perfectly with the size chart. Durability wise they're holding up well for all of the use I've put them through (diving on both grass and turf fields). I'll definitely be picking up another pair from Icebreaker when these are done.
