Andrew Mark's Bio

Born and raised in Salt Lake City, I grew up snowboarding, hiking, backpacking, climbing, kayaking and generally romping about the woods. After spending four years in the Pacific Northwest for school I came back to Utah, though I still love the PNW and visit often. I started as a Gearhead here at Backcountry, and am now a Senior Analyst in our Fraud department.

Get out, stay out, and spread the stoke.

Bought these as a gift for a family member of mine. Being Oakley, the quality is top-notch (as is the price). The person I bought them for has a pretty normal face as far as width, and these stay in place on his face (see what I did there?). Stylish as always, and the polarization is great for driving/fishing.

Just picked up a pair of these and I really like them. The slim fit is stylish without looking like those super skinny-jeans. Fit true to size, I wear a 32 and they fit true to size. I got the "black coffee" color, which is basically brown -- just what I wanted. Nothing groundbreaking, but hey, they're just pants.

I usually buy 2-3 pairs of these once a year or so just to have. They're my every day sunglasses, nothing fancy, but they work well and are generally pretty stylish. Cheap, and no pressure if they break or get lost. Definitely recommend 'em.

I love these carabiners, and all of my friends are always asking me to use them when we go climbing. They’re super easy to clip, and I am always happy when I get to set an anchor with them or use them to belay a partner. They’re a must-have for your first sport- or trad-rack.

I got one of these as a gift for a friend of mine, and she really likes it. I ordered her the white option, and she thinks that it looks great and fits well. She hasn’t taken any blows with it on yet (luckily), but she thinks the helmet would protect her in rock fall or a lead fall.

I have a 9.5-millimeter rope, and this Grigri works perfectly with it. There is a bit of a learning curve—at least there was for me—when it comes to lead belaying with it, but it’s nothing too complicated. Petzl makes high-quality products, and this device is no exception.

There’s only one thing that could make this rope better: if it were 10 meters longer. Seriously, though, I can’t say enough good things about this rope. Its mid-point design change is ideal and helps me have a better understanding of where I am on my rope – especially before I’m going to repel. Overall, this rope rocks, and I would recommend that all beginning climbers consider making it their first rope.

Although some climbers look down on PAS—because they have limited uses—I don’t. I love this PAS because it’s convenient and way easier for me to adjust than slings or some other form of protection.

I currently have three pairs of these pants in different colors. They're great for everything from a casual work environment, to dinner, to just kicking it. They've got a little bit of stretch to them which just adds to the comfort and the utility, while maintaining the slimmer fit in the legs. They fit true to size, I wear a 32 -- purchased a 32 and love 'em.

Gotta love this shirt. Definitely comfortable, and I love the slim, slightly longer fit in the torso. A simple design keeps it interesting but not over the top. Great for hanging around, or casual work environments.

Of all the tees in my closet (and there are many), this one is probably my favorite. RVCA kills it with the comfortable materials, and the sharp but simple design of the shirt makes it great for work, hanging out, or casual dinner somewhere. I'm planning on buying more in the future. Fits true to size.

Picked up one of these bad boys for my ma for Mother's Day this year. She absolutely loves it. The pattern is great, and the fabric is high quality wool. As fall rolls around she tells me that she cannot wait to wear it. Definitely will keep you warm and stylish; and with Pendleton's high quality materials, construction and lifetime warranty -- it's a no brainer.

Footprint to go with the tent, not much to it. I 100% recommend buying one if you pick up the Copper Spur. It will prolong the life of your tent, and it's a hell of a lot easier to replace footprint than a tent body. Super lightweight, just like the tent, and packs down to a tiny size.

There's a reason that when a student put their knife through my first Copper Spur 2, that I immediately went back to buy another. Super lightweight, easy to set up and take down, and it breathes great. Definitely a bit cozy for 2 people, so you shouldn't mind being close to your tent-mate.

I love a good pair of cords, and they're harder and harder to find these days. These RVCA pants fit slightly on the slimmer side, but aren't your typical "skinny jeans" which is great. Suuuuper comfortable material. I hope to pick up a few different colors because it's not easy to find a good stylish pair of cords anymore.

Picked up a few of these shirts, one in distant blue and one in midnight. They're both really comfortable, slim fitting but with just enough room. The material is great as well. I've received numerous compliments on both shirts. Definitely going to add one or two more to the wardrobe. Fits true to size.

Recently picked up this bag for every day use; going to and from work, etc. It's got great volume and is very stylish. I love the two side pockets as well. I'll probably take it up riding this season as well. If you need a great backpack for just about anything, this will do the trick.
