Andrea Callen's Bio

I'm a born and bred Kootenay girl, raised in the Canadian Rocky Mountains.

My childhood was spent running through forests, building fires, catching anything that moved and eating the occasional tadpole (never did grow that frog in my belly like I hoped). As I grew up my time was spent riding horses and mucking stalls, so I left the mountains to grow taller. Now I'm all grown and back to running through the woods, but this time I'm leaving the tadpoles where they are!

I love rock climbing, hiking, camping, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, archery and traveling the globe.

I've been all over the world and still nothing says home like tall mountains and pine trees.

I adore this dress. I have it in green (last years model maybe?) and I love it. It's soft and comfortable without being too hot or scratchy. I agree that the neckline is way more revealing than the picture shows but I still like it, more conservative folks can pop a bandeau underneath and solve any issues with that.
I really like the length of it on me, I'm 5'3 120lbs with longer legs and the small hits me a few inches above the knee. I feel like the slightly longer length and covered shoulders balance out the low neckline too.
And with the belt its like I get two dresses in one! When I want it casual I leave it unbelted and when I'm dressing up a little I wear it either with the belt provided or one of my own. It's just so versitile you can wear it with heels or flip flops or anything in between.
The wool aspect is really nice too because it travels well, doesn't wrinkle and is super easy to sink wash and hang dry should it ever get ice cream all down the front (woopsie!). It doesn't ever smell, and I've even thrown it on smelling a little funky myself and it's hidden my musk surprisingly well.
All in all its one of my go to dresses and a staple in my travel wardrobe.

I have this shirt in a pale purple and I love it. It's soft and comfortable, the wool isn't scratchy and the cut is simple and classic. The length is great, and it looks good with a sports bra or a regular bra too.
I brought this shirt to Honduras wanting to test out the 'warm when it's cold, cool when it's hot' . The temperatures there were in the 40s celsius (100+F) plus humidity, you couldn't go outside without dripping in sweat. So needless to say this wasn't my go to shirt during the day (bikinis only!), but when things cooled down to around 30 celsius (90F) I wore this and was perfeclty comfortable. Very impressed, so I'm getting another! I'm 5'3 120lbs and have a small.

I'm a vest girl. It's just a fact. I've got big puffy vests and polar fleece vests and wind breaking vests, but I didn't have this vest. And now I do. And now I am complete.

This vest does everything I need. It keeps me warm (duh) but warmer than my other vests without the added bulk due to the heat reflecting Omni-Heat (and its blingin'). I can layer over and under it due to the slim fit. I love love the high neck, its such a great feature and I love how with the thinness of the vest it isnt uncomfortable or hard to fold down when you don't need the full height of the neck. It also comes down nice and low on the butt covering the critical kidneys. The pockets are fleece lined for my whimpy hands and zippered to keep trinkets in. Then theres the detailing! I've never felt so chic rocking a vest! I got basic/classic black and couldn't be happier. I'm 5'3 120lbs and the small fits well for layering. If I wanted it just for going underneath other coats I could have gone XS. The S is still a great fit though!

I've had an older version of this pack for about five years now and it's still my favourite. This thing goes everywhere with me from carrying my books to class to hiking to fishing to weekend getaways. The mesh back panel keeps everything nice and cool, the straps are so comfortable and don't dig in at all. This isn't even a female specific model and yet the hip belt works perfectly for a lady's figure. The hip belt pockets are perfect for a camera or phone and a cliff bar. The water bottle pouches on the outside fit any size bottle including regular size nalgenes, and if you have a skinny bottle the compression straps cinches everything down tight. I've never actually used the rain cover that comes with this, it seems to handle light rain just fine! I can also carry a good amount of weight with this pack, the only thing for me is that if it isn't weighted it tends to come up a bit higher than I like on the back of my neck. All of my favourite bits seem to be on the newest model so I super recommend this one. It's still my all time favourite pack and started my love of all osprey packs. I've add an Aura and a Zena to my collection too!

This jacket is so awesome. I got it on super sale and decided to take it traveling because it is so incredibly light and packable. It's saved me so many times, from wind and light rain to downpours. Everyone made fun of me for carrying a raincoat all the time but when the sky splits who gets the last laugh?
I'm 5'3 120lbs I got a small and can smush my thin down jacket underneath and still have full range of motion.

I really love how comfortable these capris are. They're great for bumming around in the yard or up hiking, but they're not the most flattering. I've got hips, not big but they're there and so these just hang straight down and don't do much for what's in the trunk. For what I do in them they're great. But I usually change before going into town.

I bought these pants for traveling and boy am I glad to have them! I wanted something versatile that I could wear around town and also hike in. These fit just like yoga pants and are just as comfortable. To top it all of I was sitting in an airport and managed to spill my entire water bottle all over my lap. Well I just stood up brush off the few beads of water that hung on and moved a seat over! My entire water bottle! So impressed.

These shorts are my absolute favourite. They fit so perfectly they're not too long not too short, and you can dress them up or down. The fabric is so soft and breathable it's like not wearing anything. I haven't been out climbing in them yet but tossed my harness over top and the length works well with the leg loops of my mammut, so excited to test that out! I'm 5'3 120lbs and the 4 is a perfect fit! An absolute summer staple. Oh and the pockets are in the perfect spot. I hate it when the pockets are so low or on the outside of your hips and give you the weirdest shaped butt... Would buy another pair in the blue but they don't have my size :(

So in love that we slept together

Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Fit: True to size

I walked into a Patagonia store yesterday. So dangerous, but I thought I'd risk it. Came out with the new fjord flannel in gaucho stripe. It's seriously the best thing ever. It's 100% cotton, the softest thing I've put on in ages and so snuggly and warm I wore it out of the store. And then to dinner. And then to bed. And am wearing it writing this. The only size they had in stock was an 8. It's quite big for me, but I wanted to be able to layer it and wrap up in it, so I would have got this size even with more choices. I'll probably get another that fits more snug and I'll probably end up with something a few sizes smaller. (5'3 120lbs).
This thing will go absolutely everywhere with me. Camping, hiking, climbing, fishing, canoeing, even my upcoming RTW travels. I highly highly recommend this one ladies. Just the best.

Great shoe but not for smearing
4 5

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Bought these as my first pair of new shoes (my very first pair was second hand and disappeared at the crag)
These were originally for climbing in the Rockies and I sized down for a super snug fit which was great. I then moved to Vietnam and they expanded so much in the humidity my feet slid around inside the shoes! When I got back to dry Canadian air they did fit more snuggly again.

My biggest complaint with these shoes is they suck for smearing. Luckily limestone is grippy enough on its own to be somewhat effective but otherwise awful.

So while I do recommend these I won't be repurchasing.
