Amy R's Bio

I have a passion for backpacking and hiking. I'm always up for adventure...even more so if my dog gets to go! Once winter comes around its time for skis and snowshoes. Luckily I get to do all that in more out here.

I have been a fan of Dakine backpacks for years and this bag holds to the standards of a quality backpack. The material feels durable, stitching solid, and buckles seem of good quality. My only complaint about about this bag would be that there is no security for the main pocket if the lid isn't flipped over and buckled. A zipper or some velco would have been awesome there. Overall the pockets are great and the inside of the pack does a great job on holding laptop and other items I need.

I like the fit and look of these jeans. I am a size 8 and went with the size 9 in these leggings. They were slightly baggier than I would have liked for a jean legging, but that may be a result of me slightly sizing up. The colors and look are great for a casual go-to jean. Even though they were not the snug legging fit I originally wanted, I got another pair in a second color because they look so good!

This is my first pair of women specific goggles, and it will certainly not be my last. The fit is fantastic and they don't feel like they are covering my whole face. The Blue Lagoon lens is fantastic for grey days! I have yet to have issues with fogging. These goggles are a great price for what you are getting. They come with a small velvet bag that has a divider for storing other lenses without them scratching each other.

I am madly in love with this base layer. I am typically a size M in tops and size 8 pants, and found the Medium to be the perfect size with this piece. The colors are bright and the material layers very well under other items. The zipper dropseat makes this onsie superior to others that lack this awesome feature. If you are looking for a killer base layer, this is the way to go!

Without a doubt these are the brightest shoes I have ever owned. If the bright colors don't encourage me to set a new PR, then the fantastic fit will. I have a bit of trouble with overpronation and was recommended these shoes. They have a a decently wide toe box and a nice snug heel fit. I wear and 8.5 and found that these were true to size. They even come with an extra pair of bungee laces.

I have so many good things to say about this vest. First off, it is SO warm. I am someone that always runs a little cold so this really is amazing. While it is incredibly warm, it still gives you a nice shape while you are wearing it. My prior vests were big and bulky and you lost all feminine shape. This vest is not overly puffy looking and has a nice cut to it. I own one and have given it as a gift as well! I am a size M in most products and found a medium to fit true to size.

I am so glad I bought this tunic! Lole has some great products and this top is no exception. The hood is giant and awesome without being bulky in the back. The back length is great and I love wearing this top with fun leggings. I'm consistently a medium and this fit just as I hoped- comfortable without losing feminine shape.
So let's get down to the real business here- how does it feel? This is hands down the most comfortable top I have ever had the pleasure of wearing. It is so soft that when you first put it on, you have to take a moment to savor how amazing all the softness feels. You won't be disappointed with this sweater!

This meal has big hearty portions. Which is good because it may take getting through the entire bag for you to decide if you like it or not. It's not bad, but not my favorite that Backpacker's pantry has put out. It was a nice change up from the Mexican themed dishes I usually go for. A little hotsauce does wonders for this meal.

I have had a Big Agnes sleeping bag for years and finally invested in a Big Agnes pad. I have tried a handful of different pads over the years, all with "meh" to " never again" feelings towards them. Before the purchase of this sleeping pad I had just accepted that sleeping pads will never really live up to my expectations. This one was different. Three days after the initial inflating the pad was still comfortable. After a week of sleeping on it I still didn't have complaints. Based on my prior history with sleeping pads, that time frame was pretty amazing. I have yet to try this pad in colder weather, but at 50 degree nights it was still very comfortable. I'm on the short side, so the pad was a bit long. I didn't notice any of the narrowness that others had reported. The pad rolls up nicely ( with out any origami skills) and fits in a fairly small bag. The material feels durable and I didn't immediately panic when the dog stomped on it. I can't wait to try this pad out once the temperatures drop!

I've started doing more car camping recently. You know what the best thing about car camping is? The ability to upgrade the things you need for living in the outdoors, without worrying about carrying it on your back. This cot really nails being comfy in the outdoors. It is easy to set up and break down. It comes with a little carrying case that bundles everything together nicely. Let your cot-less friends be the ones that grumble in the morning about rocky ground. You , my friend, have found the better way to sleep in nature.

Darn Tough doesn't disappoint with these socks. They fit well (ordered a M and wear a 8.5) and the material feels like the solid quality Darn Tough socks always have. I can't speak to the longevity of these yet...but if they are anything like my other Darn Tough socks I will be able to use and abuse these socks for years. They wore well during 10+ mile hikes. No bunching or sliding around.

I know, I know. I reviewed the no-show version of this same sock and gave it 4 stars. Why the star drop on this one? For some reason this sock just is not as comfortable as the no-show one. The fit feels slightly different and the material doesn't feel as high quality as the others. Still a good sock and seems to hold up well on long runs. I don't find them moving around or bunching.

I had not tried this brand of sock yet, so I wasn't sure what to expect. The material feels like a good quality sock. The sizing seems accurate ( ordered a M and wear a 8.5). The socks are comfortable on longer runs and haven't gotten uncomfortable on hot days. The little heel tab does a good job of keeping your socks up without rubbing into your ankles. I would give it a 5 star, but I haven't worn them long enough to speak to the longevity of them.

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I originally purchased this trip for international travel. I wanted something that could hold my passport, some cash, chapstick, and keep close by my side. This purse nailed it. In more questionable travel areas it was nice to shorten up the strap length and hide my purse under my jacket without any noticeable bulk. It has now become a staple in my daily wear. This purse holds a slim wallet, a slim cell, and some keys...but not much else. But really that is the beauty of this purse- keep your essentials and stop hauling around the beach tote. The top snaps closed and there is a discrete little zippered pocket on the back of it.

Prana has really won me over with the pieces they have been creating. This top fits true to size and has a very flattering shape- not too tight and not too baggy. The material drapes really well and seems to put up a good fight against wrinkles. It looks great and wears great. I was looking for a casual button up and they nailed it!

Columbia nailed it with this light summery top. The fabric is sheer enough that you will probably want a top underneath, but light enough that you could wear it in warm weather and not melt. The cut is relaxed, but still flattering. The sleeves roll up to a 3/4 length with a button snap, which is currently my favorite way to wear it. The material seems to be solid construction and I anticipate this top serving me well for a while!

I purchased this top as a lightweight layering top and now wear it all the time. As mentioned before it is a bit longer in the back length, but it still looks great. I am usually a size medium and found this true to size. The material layers really easy , but looks equally nice on it's own. The thumbholes fit quite well and are not bulky if you choose not to use them. I have only had the shirt a short time so I can't speak to the longevity of it yet. The material and stitching appears to be good quality and I really have no doubts about putting this shirt through the ringer. I will be picking up other colors!

Warm Dog= Fun days
4 5

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I followed the size chart and this jacket fit my dog perfectly. He's very short haired, which means on cold days when he wants to go out he doesn't have fun. This jacket lets us go on longer adventures when it's cold. It has held up well to him dodging through trees and is easily secured. The only criticism I would have is the leash loop on the back. Perhaps on the larger sizes ( for the big dogs) there could be a bit more reinforcement stitching on that loop? I have yet to really use it because I'm afraid if Toven pulls too hard it will rip his jacket. Overall this is a great jacket for the pups that need a little extra.
