Alyssa Forrest's Bio

I spent the first 22 years of my life in Maine indulging in all the beauty and activities the pine tree state has to offer. The lure of the big mountains brought me westward and a place with Backcountry.com in December 2009 as a phone gearhead. I am now a Team Lead here at Backcountry.com and love it. Skiing and fishing are my passions and I'm out on the hill and on the water as much as possible. I'm also taking advantage of camping, hiking, biking, SUPing and other misc activities Utah has to offer! I hope you all are living the dream and getting outside with other life loving people, I know I am!

What can't these bad Larry's do? I have them in multiple lengths. These are so great for anyone with an active lifestyle that needs to attach this to that or hold this here, etc. etc. The random places I have found use for these are (but not limited to:)
1. Use as a fly rod holder in your Subaru
2. Use as a chest strap when your packs stitching fails you
3. Connect your water bottle to your pack
4. Tie down a bike lock

These work great as an alternative to duct tape or straps. So strong for what they are. Highly recommended for...well, anyone

Great "nothing" layer

Fit: True to size

When you want a shirt that provides coverage but also is very lightweight, go with the Under Armour Sunblock 50 shirt. This thing is like wearing nothing! It is basically like being naked but has all the perks of a shirt. I primarily use this fishing, but it could be used in any sunny environment. It is breathable, comfortable, and provides that protective sun layer when there isnt a cloud in the sky. It has a longer cut so you can wear it below your bum or cinch the sides for a shorter cut. The hood isnt too tight but provides nice coverage around your neck. Highly recommended!

Fit: Runs small

Not only are these shorts water approved; quick drying, durable. They are comfort approved as well! Its rare to find a Yoga pant style fold top on board shorts, but Roxy hit the nail on the head. Love the fit on these and look. The cut is awesome, I'v already had compliments on them! I have used them fishing, swimming, and wakesurfing and they are perfect. They do fit a bit small so go up if unsure of sizing.

I love this bralette due to the fact that its a must have for certain outfits. Anything with an exposed back or see through, this thing will come through in the clutch! Its supportive but not constricting and it is adorable even on its own! Im a size B but anyone a bit bustier may not find it provides enough coverage. The knit is really cute. Highly recommend!

Key To An Awkward Summer Tan
5 5

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These bad larrys are what you need when working on that awkward wet wading tan that we all know and love. Skin tone aside, these things are all you need during the warm months. They are Durable, keep your feet warm and happy and the colors are only a medium on the dork scale. I wish they made these in and XS for my little feet, but alas the fish world doesn't have them for women (yet) They are true to size for all the guys I know that rock them! get these for all your wet-wading endeavors.

I LOVE this shirt. So much, I bought it in both colorways. This does have a loose fit! If you ARENT looking for something that mixes both comfort and fashion, do not buy this shirt. The Viscose is comfortable and draps beautifully. This is lightweight but not overly see-through. I recommend wearing a bandeau/strappless so you do not take away from the details on the shoulders. If you want a perfect summer 3/4 shirt, look no further.

Impossible to fish without this stuff. For anyone trying to fish dries, it must be on you. I use this in conjunction with gel/gink/aquel. It is applied secondly and reapplied as needed. It really brings the life back to the fly and is all you can use on some smaller CDC flies. Highly recommended! Snag some if you don't already have it.

I bought these on a whim and am so glad I did! I was driving to camp for a couple nights and dreadfully realized I had forgotten my unmentionables. In that moment, I was passing by some outlets and saw Under Armour. Figured they would have undies, right? OSFA, sure, ill take it. These things far exceeded my expectation for the price and sizing. They are comfortable, seamless, and very breathable. They are my new favorites! Dont let the one size fits all scare you away (within reason, if you are a stick or a bodybuilder they may not be quite right for you) That said, I can confidently say these will fit someone form a size 2 to 12. Great price, great performance, and really awesome pair of undies for outdoor activities! Passed the test for camping, fishing, yoga, and anything that works up a sweat. Highly recommended! I have already bought 5 pair off the site : )

I purchased this shirt on a whim. I liked the color and look of the cut and went for it. I have a Oakley sunshirt that I like so figured I would try again. I am glad I did! The fit on this is perfect! I love the length and the quarter zip. The hood on this is great for sun protection. I purchased this primarily for fishing, but it wold work awesome for running and other activities where you need an athletic breathable layer. I went with the blue indigo colorway and its a pretty blue. Recommended!

Optical Goodness
5 5

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is my 2nd pair of Zeals and I love them! I own the Brewer as well and both of them are great in different ways. Optical quality wise, both are top notch. The only main different between these two are how they fit on my face, and the fact that the Carson Copper lens has a blue finish that really makes colors pop and adds contrast. The fit on these is not as perfect as my Brewers, but how can you beat perfection? I would recommend these to someone with a more medium sized face as they are some of the widest in the Zeal line.

If you want durable, stylish, and performance based sunglasses, look no further than the Carsons. Couldnt ask for a better pair of sunnies for helping me spot hogs on the river

A year in, and still in love

Follow up to my initial review. These things are still in amazing shape, no leaks, and bulletproof. I may throw some nikwax on them to help the water bead off more easily and aid in drying when I am done for the day. Through winter fishing, they kept me warm and dry. For any woman that gets out and wants a durable and quality product, this has passed the test and I wouldn't use anything else! Now they just have to make a pants version!

Be Free! Bye Bye H20 Fear!
5 5

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

So, let me start this review with a story. This one time, I was fishing at dusk, beautiful day coming to a close with a classic Utah sorbet sunset. My iphone 4 had been a loyal cellular companion for 2+ years but had one foot out the door (power buttons not working, constant crashing, fuzzy lens) but still did the job and took a photo when needed. I did NOT have a lifeproof for this bad larry, and while casting to browns in one of my favorite Provo holes, it attempted to end its life in a dramatic naked drowning.

Thankfully, it was just a call for help. To this day, I do not know how a phone would continue to work after being lost at the bottom of a river. I left it for dead, my first thought being "dammit, I just littered, I am going to have the worst fish Karma ever" Then from some magic, I was able to catch a reflection from the screen and raised it from the depths. She worked for another month until a defective wine bladder incident did her in. RIP iphone4

Needless to say, I am not the type of person that should ever have a phone that is left unprotected. My phone karma and more has been used up, and thankfully Lifeproof is around. I can now fish without worry of losing my phone, my wine and phone can share a bag uninhibited, and there is zero concern for snow on pow days.

This item comes highly recommended. I did a test before use and it is 100% sealed. The charger port hinge :"door" is functional and trustworthy and sound is great via the screw in aux port. Headphone jack port when not in use seals well and doesn't loosen over time.

I was torn between the Nuud and The Free but after talking with some people, I decided on the Fre being the best best. Two major differences, and the ones I found to be the only somewhat drawback of each was that the Nuud does not have a screen cover (uses suction to stay on, so if its not fitted perfectly water can get in) while my brother said that he wasnt a fan of the Fre due to the gap he found between screen and cover (Now that I have used this, I do not have this issue) Overall, both will work great but figure out if you are meant to have a screen cover or none and go from there.

The liveproof may feel a bit funky at first, but once you get the feeling of how much pressure is required on the rubber buttons, it will seem normal in a day.

Overall, highly recommended phone cover! Pumped for more river and snow pics, along with peace of mind with the Lifeproof Fre!

Below is my Fre doing the job and capturing a brown and the Fre hard at work

Snagged this for my Dad for Christmas and he loves it! He was in desperate need for a mid layer and this is just the ticket. Warm yet breathable, durable, and fits great! Hes used it on the river and on the mountain and it has worked perfect.

Thankfully, I haven't had to use this. It has served its purpose of providing peace of mind. I throw this in my pocket when out for a run and have brought it camping. lightweight, out of the way, but from what I've read can produce a powerful blow. Hopefully, I will never have to test its power!

Love this tank! The stretchy cross straps make all other tank straps seem constricting. The cut is flattering, and it is the perfect length. Material is very breathable but not see through. Have used for running and yoga and work great for both. You will need to wear a bra with this tank, but it is still super comfy! . Recommended tank!

River Beers!
5 5

Bringing beers out fishing isn't exactly convenient. It usually means throwing beers anywhere there is open space in waders or packs. This beeracuda fixes that! It holds enough beers for your day on the water and keeps em chilled. It is comfortable and doesnt get in the way. I ended up giving my Cuda to my buddy since he loved it so much as you can see from the pic. Recommended!
