Alyssa Forrest's Bio

I spent the first 22 years of my life in Maine indulging in all the beauty and activities the pine tree state has to offer. The lure of the big mountains brought me westward and a place with Backcountry.com in December 2009 as a phone gearhead. I am now a Team Lead here at Backcountry.com and love it. Skiing and fishing are my passions and I'm out on the hill and on the water as much as possible. I'm also taking advantage of camping, hiking, biking, SUPing and other misc activities Utah has to offer! I hope you all are living the dream and getting outside with other life loving people, I know I am!

A year in, and still in love

Follow up to my initial review. These things are still in amazing shape, no leaks, and bulletproof. I may throw some nikwax on them to help the water bead off more easily and aid in drying when I am done for the day. Through winter fishing, they kept me warm and dry. For any woman that gets out and wants a durable and quality product, this has passed the test and I wouldn't use anything else! Now they just have to make a pants version!

Be Free! Bye Bye H20 Fear!

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

So, let me start this review with a story. This one time, I was fishing at dusk, beautiful day coming to a close with a classic Utah sorbet sunset. My iphone 4 had been a loyal cellular companion for 2+ years but had one foot out the door (power buttons not working, constant crashing, fuzzy lens) but still did the job and took a photo when needed. I did NOT have a lifeproof for this bad larry, and while casting to browns in one of my favorite Provo holes, it attempted to end its life in a dramatic naked drowning.

Thankfully, it was just a call for help. To this day, I do not know how a phone would continue to work after being lost at the bottom of a river. I left it for dead, my first thought being "dammit, I just littered, I am going to have the worst fish Karma ever" Then from some magic, I was able to catch a reflection from the screen and raised it from the depths. She worked for another month until a defective wine bladder incident did her in. RIP iphone4

Needless to say, I am not the type of person that should ever have a phone that is left unprotected. My phone karma and more has been used up, and thankfully Lifeproof is around. I can now fish without worry of losing my phone, my wine and phone can share a bag uninhibited, and there is zero concern for snow on pow days.

This item comes highly recommended. I did a test before use and it is 100% sealed. The charger port hinge :"door" is functional and trustworthy and sound is great via the screw in aux port. Headphone jack port when not in use seals well and doesn't loosen over time.

I was torn between the Nuud and The Free but after talking with some people, I decided on the Fre being the best best. Two major differences, and the ones I found to be the only somewhat drawback of each was that the Nuud does not have a screen cover (uses suction to stay on, so if its not fitted perfectly water can get in) while my brother said that he wasnt a fan of the Fre due to the gap he found between screen and cover (Now that I have used this, I do not have this issue) Overall, both will work great but figure out if you are meant to have a screen cover or none and go from there.

The liveproof may feel a bit funky at first, but once you get the feeling of how much pressure is required on the rubber buttons, it will seem normal in a day.

Overall, highly recommended phone cover! Pumped for more river and snow pics, along with peace of mind with the Lifeproof Fre!

Below is my Fre doing the job and capturing a brown and the Fre hard at work

Snagged this for my Dad for Christmas and he loves it! He was in desperate need for a mid layer and this is just the ticket. Warm yet breathable, durable, and fits great! Hes used it on the river and on the mountain and it has worked perfect.

Thankfully, I haven't had to use this. It has served its purpose of providing peace of mind. I throw this in my pocket when out for a run and have brought it camping. lightweight, out of the way, but from what I've read can produce a powerful blow. Hopefully, I will never have to test its power!

Love this tank! The stretchy cross straps make all other tank straps seem constricting. The cut is flattering, and it is the perfect length. Material is very breathable but not see through. Have used for running and yoga and work great for both. You will need to wear a bra with this tank, but it is still super comfy! . Recommended tank!

River Beers!
5 5

Bringing beers out fishing isn't exactly convenient. It usually means throwing beers anywhere there is open space in waders or packs. This beeracuda fixes that! It holds enough beers for your day on the water and keeps em chilled. It is comfortable and doesnt get in the way. I ended up giving my Cuda to my buddy since he loved it so much as you can see from the pic. Recommended!

This worked really great for my hot yoga class. There is nothing worse than an ill fitted tank during a 100+degree class. The double layer is awesome! Next to skin layer clings to skin and helps wick moisture while the outer layer is flowy. The bottom hem is just tight enough so it never slips off your hips during downward dog etc. poses. No need for a bra (TMI?) with this since the dub layer provides enough support (This is coming from a girl with a B cup, do not quote me ladies with more love in the chest) recommended!

I purchased this ski to fill the void it my quiver, the middleman for days when I want a fat ski, but 115 was just too much under foot and where a park ski wouldn't cut it through crud.

This ski has surpassed my expectations. It is my new favorite. This ski so insanely versatile, which is to be expected given its EST rocker shape that is shared by my other favorite ski the Armada VJJ.

I have used this ski in all conditions, and I recommend this to any and all east coaster, or to any west coaster wanting a ski for ripping around on older snow or groomers. This bad larry does it all. Charges through crud, holds its own in pow, plows through slush, and lays down on groomers. Not to mention, it is super fun and energetic on mother natures mountain park playground. I am so stoked that I decided to go with these skis as my all mountain accomplice.

Wondering what the graphics are on the skis? 12 Jewels represent the 12 principles and values of life from the GZA.
"Knowledge, wisdom, understanding to help you achieve
Freedom, justice, equality, food, clothing and shelter
After this, love, peace and happiness."

Enjoy my shred friends, you will not regret buying the Bdog

disclaimer: I use this as my all mountain, but it would killer as my park and pipe if I wasn't a washed up freestyle skier : )

I really needed a jacket to have to throw on whenever. I have puffy, tech pieces, and ski jackets, and this is the perfect addition to my arsenal! It nice to have a jacket that you don't really need to worry about. The cut on this is awesome! Very complimentary of a womens silhouette that you can adjust to be more or less hourglass with the internal drawstring. The length on this is awesome and adds some class. I jump between a small and medium in Armada. I purchased a medium, and its great for layering but I could have gotten away with the small as well. Take that into account if you prefer a more roomy fit or more tailor look with this jacket. Overall, a must have if you want a stylish/simple Armada jacket you can wear anywhere!

Happy Pup!

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Took my pup touring in the lower 20s and this was 100% needed. She was a bit shivery still towards the end from being up to her belly in snow for a couple hours and would of been in bad shape if she had not worn this. A great piece to have when your pup will be in deeper snow or idle on cold days. I bought this for skiing and for her to wear when she is hanging with me while cold weather fishing. All in all, the best thing to throw on your pup when they are going to be in deeper snow, running around in very cold weather, or when idle in a variety of temps.

Brewer Loving!

Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have worn the same sunglasses for years (Smith Gibsons) , and am so glad I finally decided to swap it up. The Gibsons were great but these Brewers are a step up for me. The fit on these is perfect. They stay on during activities and I never worry about them flying off my head.
Activity #1 Fishing
These bad Larrys are great on the river. I have the copper polarized lens that cuts glare and works great in a variety of lighting. They aren't the best for when its darker out, but where we get more bright sunny days here in Utah, that is preferred. They are scratch resistant and stay on my face, I never worry about them dropping into the water even when I'm looking straight down.
Activity #2 Skiing
My favorite part of these glasses is that they do not fog while touring! The way they fit allow airflow underneath, and also don't press on my high cheekbones (people with high cheekbones know this struggle) they work great at showing the snow texture and are so damn comfortable to wear with a beanie.

All in all, I'm pretty damn obsessed with these. I've never been one to baby glasses, but these things are treated like gold. If you want a pair of sunnies that can perform but also look great, snag a pair of these. Zeal has really stepped it up with their optics and I'm pumped to have jumped on the Zeal train.

Wise words from Audrey! That said, it feels good to look great! These boots brought my wardrobe together. Love these with a dress! The heel height on them is perfect. and the quality is top notch. Highly recommend these for any lady.

For catch and release, every fisherman needs to have a means in which to debarb a hook. I purchased these smooth jawed forceps and they do the trick! They are durable for their cost and very strong. I have small hands and these do not feel bulky whatsoever. I believe once it gets colder they will be fine to use with gloves.

If you need a pair of forceps for the river, snag these for functionality and help save some lips!
