I've only had this jacket for a couple of months, so my review is rather limited. With that being said, I would like to echo several of the positive reviews given here. I bought this to serve as a packable option for hiking in Hawaii (home), and for wherever else it rains and I'm outside. The first time I went hiking with it in my backpack, I got caught in a 30-minute downpour, and it kept the water out completely. My pack got soaked and the front of my legs got wet, but my core was rain-free. It does breathe reasonably well. It was about 80-81° when I was using it, and I never felt "hot", but my arms did get a little clammy. On the other hand I've worn it to work as a windbreaker and it really doesn't insulate very well, as it shouldn't. It should really excel in more temperate climates. The jacket is lightweight, fits well on my 6'1"-185 lb frame (size large), and the construction seems solid. Bottom line, take our advise and get this jacket! You won't be disappointed unless you deserve it for some reason.

This treatment has been used on my Merrell Moab Ventilator Mid GTX boots, and my wife's Salomon Exit Sport GTX hiking shoes. I bought it specifically because Merrell and Nikwax both recommended this type of treatment for both the Gore-Tex and the mix of leather and fabric. With limited use so far, it has helped to keep water out, and beads on the surface in most cases. I'm sure it also assists in keeping the shoes from holding stains from mud, saps and dirt also, thereby keeping the shoes looking newer for a longer period of time. We have not reached the point where the waterproofing has worn off, therefore can't vouch for its longevity (reason for 4-star rating). Hopefully the Gore-Tex won't leak, but at least this creates another barrier that inhibits water from getting in, and still allows the shoes to breathe properly. So far nothing but good things to say about it. I would purchase this product again, and would recommend it if you have similar footwear, regardless if it has Gore-Tex or not.

I've worn these shorts for several weekends now for various activites and would get another pair if it wasn't such a pain (cost) to ship stuff to HI. I also agree with peter20... about the included belt. It's adequate, but I usually wear them with the Patagonia Tech Web Belt. The belt loops do accommodate the wider Patagonia belt and is a much better option in my opinion. Also, I purchased the size medium for my 33-34" waist.
