Aarrggh!wrote a review of Burton AK 2L Swash Gore-Tex Pant - Men's on February 10, 2016
Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
Fit: True to size
I got this pant to replace my old AK 2L Stagger pant which Burton does not make any more. This is a fine pant that fits loose enough to allow freedom of movement when riding. It has some issues worth mentioning, though.
First, there is mesh on the crotch vent but not on the side vent. That's a big fail. You ride in powder you will eventually forget that side vent is open and be digging fistfuls of powder out of your boots.
Second, the Stagger also had high quality RiRi zippers on the cargo pockets that kept out water and opened and closed easily when caked with frozen snow. The swash has cheap zippers with small teeth covered by a flap. So, while that keeps the moisture out (the flap) this zipper can be hard to open/close in certain environments. Like when you have moist snow on it that then freezes.
Third, the 2L fabric is not very durable. You will very quickly find abrasions and punctures from things you contact or items protruding from full pockets (GoPros, tools, etc.). While Burton claims a good warranty on its AK line, I have had pants returned to me that I felt wore too quickly with the explanation "normal wear" given to me.
Fourth, the integrated belt is AWFUL! AT 6'2", 185 lbs, the XL pant is the one I need for length and for room in the legs (so it doesn't bind up when riding). But the two wimpy velcro elastic bands do little to keep the pants in place. They have had this inadequate design for years.
Companies like Norrona have a very functional velcro cinch strap belt integrated into the pant. It works fantastic! I don't know why Burton has missed this for so many years. You will get snow down your ass with Burton pants. It was not a problem when they had the zip to jacket interface, but that has gone away as well. They need to amp up their game on waist support.
In the end, I did keep this pant because of the fit I wanted. However, you are paying for the brand name. There are better quality pants for less money.
This pant does have a nice heel cinch on the back of the pants so you don't walk all over your pant legs. Easy to pull up and down. Much easier than the old snap interface they used to have.
