Dogfunk is by far the most inept online product sales company I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with. I ordered these shorts over a month ago. First they shipped the wrong product to the wrong address. So after an address change I had to do a return. Then they re-shipped my order to the wrong address, again. I still haven't received these shorts, who knows if they're ever coming.
This website sucks, use Amazon instead.
Don't really do that much

I was wearing these this past weekend at a slopestyle comp, and after only a couple falls on my right side, I wound up with a massive bruise and a yet-to-be-diagnosed hip injury. They would be much better if there was a hard shell covering each section of pads in order to further dissipate impacts.

I liked the idea of having padded shorts to protect again stupid hip bruising etc from skiing east coast snow and doing rails, so I picked these up.
I am 6', 185 lbs with very large quads (34x34 pants0 and these fit well around the waist but still have some room around the legs, so you may want to go a size smaller than you usually do.
The padding itself leaves something to be desired. After a few crashes it certainly mitigates some of the impact and may have prevented some bruises, but falling isn't painless :(

Your review would be more helpful if you included which size you ordered.

Not good protection, but better than nothing.

I snowboarded with these for two weeks, after already having done one week of snowboard.
These are definitely an improvement, and they make sure your ass won't be so sore you can't ride the next day, but falling with these is definitely still quite painful.
I fell ALOT. my ass hurt ALOT. Undoubtedly, it would hurt alot more had I not worn these, but had I known the actual quality of these - I wouldv'e coughed up another 20 or 30 dollars for some real ass protection.
I'm a skinny guy, I need bum protection, These pads do not make the grade, sadly. I don't have a basis for comparison, but I still can't recommend these.

i've been snowboarding a long time. my park is always icy. smashing my ass off the ground after a jump used to suck so bad and end my day. i fell last week off a 40 foot kicker while spinning a 720, and i bounced right back up. normally that would leave me sitting there and i would be pissed. they are SO nice and you don't even notice they're on you. these pads definately work, and everyone who rides in the park and hit their ass should get a pair.

I highly disagree these don't help at all
Keeps you riding all day!

These pads are legit..when you're walking around you tend to notice a bit, but on the outside no one has a clue you're rockin em. Looks aside, my park is practically all ice at times, so sometimes landings aren't always so smooth and my day is over. That's no longer the case...these pads have saved my a** (literally)!!
Worth it

things do really well for park sking, they really lessin the blow of a hip check to a rail. they definitly don't take away all the pain but they make the difference between ending your day or being like, ouch that kind of hurt and keep on riding the rest of the day. I will say tho that if you don't have baggy or loose fitting pants these won't fit under that well, especially if you sag your pants, you need xl or xxl pants with these
Great for what they´re supposed to do

Been using these for a couple of weeks now, and they´re great. They absorb punches to my behind in the quarters, together with the knee-pads from Pro-Tech... feels comfortable, and feels safe.
These are NOT hard shells, they are soft padding to absorb shocks :)
Great value!
they help you go to work the next day

They dont feel like they can cushion much, but they work. Used them today in the park to try some new stuff and they help you ride away from some bad decisions. They help a lot, I will most likely be sore tomorrow but atleast I will be able to walk. The tale bone padding is not as thick as it should be, it protects the hips well if you take a nasty slam on a rail. Only reason they dont get 5 stars is they make you look like jlo. I would only wear them when you are trying new stuff or trying to go bigger.

I certainly plan to wear them over a merino or UA base layer.
The fabric doesn't seem like it would be too comfy against your sensitive areas and the wash instructions say hand wash and hang dry only. It also seems like things might get a bit chilly down there w/o something underneath these unless you've get some seriously insulated pants.
gets the job done

just got these and wore 'em this weekend. they definately helped out big time on the spills. if you're gonna fall, you may as well do what you can to cushion it
Pro-tec IPS Hip Pads

I have both the Pro-tec IPS hip pads, and the Demon Flex-Force Low Padded shorts. I don't like these pads (Pro-tec IPS) because for me they didn't fig snug around the leg/upper thigh region. I ordered a medium and am 6ft 165lbs. They also don't have as thick of padding, and as much tailbone support as the Demon pair does.
As for a review of just the Pro-tec Hip Pads. I give them 3 stars because they aren't the greatest protection, but do have adequate padding all over. The butt, thighs, hip, and quads are all protected which is nice. The padding isn't the thickest but would certainly lessen a blow on a rail or whatever it is that you're using these for.
They're stretchy and conform to your body, and are also pretty light and would easily conceal themselves under a pair of ski/snowboard pants or any type of pant that is somewhat loose.
do these fit snug around the thigh leg...

do these fit snug around the thigh leg area?
Fur Finley

It really depends on how big your thighs are. I am 6 foot, 165 lbs and I ordered a medium and they aren't snug around the thigh/leg area. Had I ordered a small then I would probably be ok. I would say my legs are slightly skinnier than average though and these would probably fit the average thigh just about right.

I'm 6'2", ~185-190lbs, 34.5-35" waist, 32.5-33" inseam w/ relatively decent sized thighs. I also went with the medium and mine don't fit snug at all at the bottom of the thighs but are semi-compression fit through the upper thigh and hips w/ a thin-medium base layer on. The pads still seem to provide plenty of coverage and don't seem like they will be sliding around too horribly however. They seem like they should provide better coverage and will be better suited all around for my quest to finally get the hang of snowboarding this season than the 661 bomber shorts I've got for MTB.
Haven't had a chance to test mine out on the slopes yet but they seem to be cut pretty well, are comfortable, and decently constructed. They do seem a little bulky in a couple spots, but nothing range of motion hindering or annoying in my simulated testing around the house. They don't seem to produce much of a diaper effect visually under any of my size L, medium bagginess pants (TNF Freedom and Fargo and Oakley Karn).
