Description

Lots of light in a tiny package.

The Princeton Tec Spectrum Fuel 4 proves that big light can come in small packages. Linear Ultrabright LED's send out more light than some big, bulky lamps, but thanks to the smart design, you get all that luminous goodness in a low-weight low-bulk system. Keep this headlight on when you're hanging out around camp or hiking in to your first pitch before the sun comes up.

  • Four Ultrabright LEDs throw out bright light in a wide beam for versatile use
  • Large push-button switch is easy to use even if you're wearing gloves
  • Curved back panel rests comfortably against your head and can be attached to a shoulder strap, a climbing rig, webbing, or a tent's gear loft
  • Asymmetrical single-arm bracket lets you angle your beam without tilting your head
  • Easily accessible battery door makes switching your power source easy
  • Streamlined design means this headlamp is light and compact
  • Adjustable headband gives you a custom fit

Good but Flawed

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I am on my third Fuel headlamp. The previous two broken in the same way; if you drop them just right the little clip take holds the battery compartment closed breaks off. Both previous headlamps still function with a bit of modification and a zip tie. All that said, I must like this headlamp, because I bought another one. It's bright, and inexpensive. Great for pre-dawn tours or after-dark runs.

FYI, Princeton Tec just mailed me 2 clips for the wife's. Have read this is an issue on this model across the board with the door clip. Just give them a ring and they'll ship it no charge.

Butch - thanks for the tip. I'll do it.

Just a followup - I took Butch's advice contacted Princeton Tec (I tried the email approach), and within 30 minutes I had a response letting me know that new doors and pins were on their way. Nice work Princeton Tec!

great little light

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift, but have feedback to share

liked the little headlamp. stretchy band fits both me and my 10 year old daughter's head.. she's been happy with it to read books, etc.. I use it occasionally to work in dark spaces.

simple to operate and very handy. the material and contruction seems to be of high quality. could use a lower light setting for reading a book, but still pretty good.

the video says this headlamp is waterproof...

the video says this headlamp is waterproof but its not listed in the "tech specs", is that the case?

From what I have found for reviews and specs concerning this particular headlamp elsewhere, I believe that this lamp is probably rated to IPX4, something you deem as being water- or splash-resistant, but by no means immersible and/or submersible, therefore, not actually waterPROOF. That being the case, I would posit that you could probably dunk it quickly or, in the case that it landed in a body of water, retrieve it expediently without any harm befalling the circuitry of the lamp, but you wouldn't want to rely on this if you were going on a white-water rafting trip or somewhere where the likelihood of it getting completely drenched was elevated or certain.
In short, water-resistant, not water-proof. Hope this helps.

Surprisingly bright

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Anymore it seems like the single super bright LEDs throw more light than the cheap multi-LED versions. Not the case here. The four little LEDs really put it out and the fact that you have multiple light sources throws a wider pattern making it much better when running in the dark. Light weight, all it needs is a set of rechargeable batteries and you are golden.

Cool headlamp

This is my headlamp for everyday use. Around the house, reading, looking for something in the dark, etc. I customized mine on princeton tec's website, which is a feature I really liked because I got to make my headlamp the colors I wanted it to be. Throws out great light, headband feels good on head, and it is nice and light. Excellent Headlamp.

May be the most articulate demo vid. i've ever seen on a product. Thanks.

I can't believe Princeton Tec has not changed the design of the battery compartment door on the Fuel. It is a major source of failure. I bought 2 and they both broke. Keep your receipts as at least they come with a five year warrantee. Mine both lasted about a year - maybe 3 or 4 battery changes.
