The Princeton Tec Pilot LED is a perfect accessory for backpackers, hikers, or anybody else who could use a little extra light now and again. The Pilot clips to straps, be they pack straps or the band of another headlamp. The Pilot's actual light can detach from the clip base with a simple twist to give handheld lighting for map reading and all manner of fiddly tasks around your home or campsite.

Bottom Line: Never say, “Where'd I put that flashlight?” again.

I picked up this item in red off of SAC to use with my black diamond headlamp and it works great! It snapped securely into the strap and the fact that I can pivot it in any direction makes it super functional. I mainly use it when I'm running in town at night so that I stay visible to approaching cars.

Good cheap backup light

By:

This is pretty good as a backup. I keep one or two in my backpack at all times for biking or finding lost stuff in the dark. Can't beat 4$ per, so I got half a dozen last time they went up on SAC.

light and simple

I got mine to attach to the back of my headlamp so when im biking around at night I can be seen easily from behind. Usually keep in flashing mode to increase liklyhood of being seen. Its super light and attached to the strap without any trouble. Havent had to use it on its own but I imagine for small tasks it would work fine.

Great little light

Got 5 of these on SAC for $4 each, couldn't beat that price...
I do Search and Rescue, and we spend a lot of time searching in the woods at night. I put one of these on the back of each of my packs, so that people behind me can see me... Works great, especially when in single file (like when carrying a litter). We normally use glow sticks, but these just seem to be much more efficient.

Versatile and Light

Super easy to pack (attaches to webbing or even a headlamp with ease). Tons of uses.....you'll figure them out. Lightweight and inexpensive. I can't complain about anything!

Versatile

I just got this little light. I didn't think I'd use it for much aside from a backup light. But, in the first week, I set it into a Velcro strap for an impromptu running beacon strapped around my wrist, a light to see the gas pumps when the lights were out in Yosemite and to make my way to my girlfriend's bed without having to turn on the overhead light when I finally got in at 11:30 PM.
It provides sufficient light when I need it, mostly because it's there, strapped to my backpack, when I need it. This light easily attaches to my 1" wide backpack strap, has a hole for a cord and the light disconnects easily from the mounting plate simply, but seems to be very secure.

Nice addition to your headlamp

By:

I don't know about the green or the white, but I have the red version. I know there are headlamps with red light built in, but I thought this might come in handy if I ever need to lend someone a light. Also handy if you love the love your current light and want a nice retrofit to make it more versatile.

Good backup

By:

I have one of these attached to both of my primary headlamps for caving and they seem to be well built. The light output is not great, but it does its job. It is nice having it attached right to the headlamp, so there is no fumbling around for the spare light source in the dark.
