Is your face beaming because you have all eight LED lights set to the brightest setting on your Princeton Tec Corona Headlamp? Or is that just the radiant look of someone who’s super excited about all the things they can do in the dark now that one hand isn’t holding a flashlight? Maybe it’s a bit of both.
Eight LED bulbs provide up to 90 lumens of brightness that light up to 34 meters (110 feet) of trail, road, or backyard
Regulated bulbs deliver an even distribution of light, which reduces eye fatigue and increases peripheral vision
Wide beam illuminates a larger field of view and more closely simulates normal daylight
Switch between using 1,3,5, and 8 bulbs so you always have the right amount of light
Four flash modes provide greater options for waking up your friends in the middle of the night
Over-the-top headband helps keep the lamp firmly in place and ensures your hands are always free
This was my main headlamp and is very bright producing 90 lumens. I have since switched to the Princeton Tec Apex which is 130 lumens. I now use this as my backup light and it works out well since they both take "AA" batteries.
Very dependable light that has never failed me. Tends to be a little on the heavy side with the 3 batteries. Buttons are easy to access and battery life is good. Multiple modes.
This headlamp has saved me so many times. I just got back from a three month trip to Africa. Its been through torrential downpours, knocked around a bag on top of a four wheel drive, through solo night hikes in the bush...and only had to change the batteries once. I would trust this product with my life--and have.

This headlamp can really light up the trail. I have done a few night hikes when a group of friends. They end up turning their headlamps off because this lamp will overpower their output. The adjustable light output is great. Even on the lowest setting, it still out preforms many lamps. The light pattern is long and wide. Lights up the entire trail up in the white mountains. I have never had an issue in rain. I even had it submerged in a river crossing, still performed fine. Currently a year old and working well.
I do wish it had a red lamp for night vision, so I don't wake up any of my friends or other people at the tentsites or walking around in a shelter.
Cool headlamp...(I'm not too sure why I got the yellow one though). It fits comfortably, it's very bright, Works in wet weather, It's the reason I'll never carry a regular flashlight again. If you need a great lamp at a good value, you cant beat the corona.
I like that this headlamp has a variety of lighting modes, but I am wondering how dim the single LED is. I am actually looking for a headlamp that has power, but also has a low-light setting.
The Petzl MYO RXP, for example can be used as low as 8 lumens. This would be good for around camp, so as to not blind other people. Does anyone know if the 1 LED setting on the Princeton Tec Corona is dimmer than 8 lumens?
One last question: This site says the headlamp uses 3 AAA Alkaline batteries, but I figure this is a misprint. REI's online site says the headlamp takes 3 AA batteries. Can you verify which batteries this headlamp takes?
The reason I ask is because I want to own two headlamps that use the same batteries, eliminating the need to bring extra AA and AAA batteries on expeditions.
My guess is yes. The Corona has 12 modes from super bright (with all 8 LEDs lit at once on high), to low (one LED lit on low). The two buttons each do their own thing. The larger button switches between modes and the smaller button switches the light from high to low. It is the best proximity (flood) light you can buy. I think it would be excellent for reading or not disturbing you tent mates to blowing them away with the amount of light output it has.
This headlamp has the best range of vision of any headlamp that I have used. I have several headlamps for caving and I would have to say that this is my favorite. The range is not quite as good as a 3 watt LED, as the Princeton Tec Apex has, but it is pretty comparable. I highly recommend this headlamp for any activity.
I used it on a camping trip. It is very bright on highest setting and lets you adjust the number of LEDs to conserve battery power. I would highly recommend it.
This is the one for you kayak people... or most. I am a researcher type person. Batteries in the unit + water= eventual crap out. The batteries should be in the back as this unit has. Many onliners complain about the head lamp version breaking. This unit is all LED and provides plenty of light. Another complaint is the head band units with no head strap. This unit has one.
Okay... so I know my stuff... right? I was out on the surf in my kayak and I have just about everything tethered. I took off my lamp as the sun came up.... a huge wave came out of the inlet from a Sunday boater in a hurry.... my yak got rocked and my headlight went flying into the deep blue sea. ha ha True story. I am reordering ... but next time I am going to tether it to my life vest.
It is certainly bright enough for trail running but a little too heavy for me. I would suggest something smaller that isn't going to bounce around much.
Yeah, it's a super bright light and would definately keep the trail lit while running. But, if you're looking for the best Princeton Tec trail running headlamp, I'd suggest looking at the FUEL - it's smaller and super bright. A great option.
Very nice headlamp as expected. Easy to operate in the dark. Tried it out a few times here in Maryland prior to it's real purpose - to light up the night while hiking in Peru next month. It will lead the way on our trek to the Inca treasure of Machu Picchu. Thank you.
