light, not as sleek

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Not as sleek as I thought it was going to be. But, it's not a massive headlamp either. The light options are great, I bought this so I had a red light option. I was tired of dimming my other head lamp, I wanted something that would be better for in the tent or fumbling around the camp buckets and tables.
I'll have to see how the batteries are the next time I get out (to compare to the previous review).

Night trail

Night trail

First time night running! the Princeton Tec Byte Headlamp first use. The specs says there it will support only 2 hours with the highest bright, so I was worry and took a spare couple of AAA with me. How ever I found far enough the low bright for that night. Using that setup the batteries should last 96hours. BTW. It use only 2 AAA and not 3 batteries

Piece of junk

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

The headlamp will discharge the batteries if left in the light more then a few weeks. I found this out the hard way when I had to finish up some hikes in the dark. I contacted Princeton Tec to see if I had a lemon and they told me to take the batteries out if I wasn't going to use it for longer then a week. Really?!? Hey, sorry guys my headlamp is dead, I forgot to take out the fresh batteries when I put it away.

Nice Headlamp, great power for the price

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This headlamp is nice if you are not in the market for something incredibly bright. With that being said though it does an incredible job for its price and size. It has 3 settings, a low light output, higher output and red. It is so small you'll forget it is even on your head. It is the most comfortable headlamp I've owned. I am enough of a fan that I bought another after losing mine this summer.

A nice, inexpensive headlamp.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I have owned the byte for almost a year now. It was my first headlamp and I use it on my backpacking adventures. It puts out a decent amount of light but it is only $20.00 so if you want a extremely bright headlamp then you should go for something like the EOS or a $30.00-$40.00 alternative. Overall is does its job and works well. The only problem I have with it is that when you leave the batteries in lets say in a drawer, it drains them instantly. If not using it for a while occurs, remove the batteries.

decent headlamp

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

i use this lamp for hiking/camping and whenever i need a flashlight. brighter than my petzl taktiika xl but runs on only 2 aaa not the 3 that it states above. hence the shorter battery life. not a problem for me. i like this lamp for what it is. lightweight, bright, and batteries can be found in packs of even numbers. never have to replace 2 of 3 and hope for the best.

Great headlamp

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I got this lamp because I needed one that was small enough that I could slip in my daypack and forget about until I needed it, and this one is it. Its small and light which means I can always have it with which I rally like. It does run threw batteries pretty fast if used on the brightest setting but even then if your just trying to get back to your car when the sun goes down its plenty, also it mentions it in the description so I knew about it beforehand so I have no problem with it. The low light and red light are what I use the most and they work wonderfully and for quite a long time. Its simple, lightweight, and small, what more could you want in a lamp like this

Not so good

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

You know when this headlamp actually works, it works pretty good. I don't know if the one I have is a lemon but the batteries don't last more than a month when not in use.

Not so good

Killer headlamp!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have used this headlamp a couple of times and it is great for the price! If you are looking for a killer option at a fraction of the cost this is your guy! Great light setting and very easy to use right out of the box.
