Description

A sun for your forehead.

The Princeton Tec Apex Rechargeable Headlamp will never leave you in the woods wishing you had a brighter headlamp. The 200 lumens spot will cook ants without a magnifying glass, and the four LED's provide a flood bright enough to land an airplane.

NO BATTERY GAUGE

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I just recieved this headlamp but there is NO BATTERY GAUGE, you just have toleave it charging for 3-4 hours and "hope" its fully charged. This is a HUGE defect in my opinion. You have no way to verify how much battery life is in the battery pack???? how could such a minor detail be overlooked. Even the cheapest of lithium battery products have a gauge of some sort to measure battery life. This is very disappointing.

In fairness I think most headlamps I've used lack a battery gauge, and you'd always bring backup batteries.

Unless the backcountry desc. is wrong and you can't use backup batteries, in that case yeah I'd say not having a gauge with something fickle like li-ion batteries is pretty bad.

Perfect Light for night time adventures

Did anyone say turn on the car lights? you got it in a recargable version! I've skied, mountain biked, climbed and canyoneered in the night with this light. Lasts forever, never had it go dead on a trip yet! I went on a 10 day trip and used it conservatively at first but then wanted to test see how it would last. I used it on high single beam until it automatically dimmed to the next lower setting. Two days later it started to flash so i switched it to the next lower setting(bright 4 bulbs) and finished the trip on this setting and never had to switch to the lowest 4 bulb setting. Best head lamp I've ever had and Ive got 10 or more. I also have the apex non-rechargeable and this light is twice the light, lighter, brighter, and last lots longer.

hello Sara! I wonder if you can answer a question for me. I ordered two of these headlamps two separate times. Both times i had to return teh headlamp because of a defect of some sort that made both lamps suddenly and randomly turn off. Other than this really inconvenient glitch I LOVED these headlamps and would like nothing more than to re-order one. But I don't understnad why both kept randomly turning off. They weren't hot, sometimes right after aI turned it off it would shut off. If I played with the cord a bit where the two cords come together- twisting the connection, the light would come back on, sometimes stay on but ssoemtimes turn right off again. Not sure why I had this problem twice and very disappointed because other than that the Apex was teh BEST headlamp by far that i tried on so many levels. CAn you help me? I want a headlamp i can rely on for obvious reasons! Don't need to be stranded in the dark!! Thank you, i eagerly await your reply.

Hi Jeniffer, it sounds like you got ahold of some bad connectors. After our first small production run we improved our connection design and have had no issues since. If you still have a faulty one you can send me your address we would be happy to replace your lights with brand new ones with the latest connector. Also, all orders placed now will ship with the new improved connector. Feel free to email me if you have any further questions. sarahageman@earthlink.net

Thank you for your reply! I am very happy to hear this problem has been fixed! I returned both faulty lamps to backcountry for full refund and will be ordering another one as soon as this model comes back into stock. Can't wait. I WILL update this post to let you all know how it goes. Haven't found a lamp for this price that compares in brightness and battery burn time yet so excited to give it another chance! Thanks
