The prAna Brion Shorts utilize crazy-tough nylon to keep you covered in outdoor conditions where cotton might rip, tear, or just leave you feeling sweaty or soggy. Durable construction means these shorts will stand up to desert excursions and deep-forest bushwhacking. Plus, thanks to their laid-back five-pocket design you'll look good when you're hanging out around town, too.

  • Abrasion-resistant, quick-drying nylon can stand up to aggressive encounters with rock faces and tree branches while a bit of Lycra adds flexibility
  • DWR finish repels moisture so you won't get soggy in a drizzle or get stained if you spill your beer on yourself
  • Standard fit is balanced, not too tight and not too baggy
  • Five-pocket styling with rivet reinforcements adds a classic look

Addictive.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I bought both the Brion short and pants for my husband. It's all he wants to wear now and all he wants me to buy. He used to love the zion, but these are so light and versatile that he is getting a bit addicted. I still buy him the zion pants for those really slabby, scrape against the rock climbs, but the Brion is a seriously comfy pant and perty darn durable as well. He is a size 32 and the 32 fit just great.

Short and strong, just how I like shorts

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

The Prana Men's Brion Short can't die. I've taken it up offwidths, on steep trails, and on walks with my dog. They seem to come out of any situation without a tear. I like the gusseted construction and the short inseam so I can step without the fabric pulling at my thigh.

I'm hooked.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

Let me begin by saying I am officially a Brion shorts junkie. I bought these because the inseam was smaller than most men's shorts these days, and I hate shorts that ride over my knees. Turns out my intuition was correct (I don't know measurements well and have no fashion sense). I'm quite lean, am 5' 10" tall, and the Brion short sits comfortable an inch or two above each knee.
Not knowing what to expect from this short, I am extremely glad I gave them a try. I have ended up liking them so much that one pair was not nearly enough. I bought 4 more pair in the other two colors, and to be honest I will undoubtedly buy even more. I ended up wearing the one pair so often I wasn't even washing it and would pull it out of my dirty clothes hamper to wear it again the next day (don't tell anyone!).
So what do I like? For one, they are incredibly comfortable! The addiction of lycra makes the Brion short form to your legs and regardless of how you flex or bend you do not feel inhibited or constricted. Prana, being a company that produces yoga gear, might have had this in mind. I practice yoga myself sometimes and it's great not having to chance into different shorts for postures. The fabric is soft and pleasing to the touch, which may or may not affect your ability to attract the opposite sex. I wouldn't bank on it necessarily.
The Brion shorts breathe extremely well. Being a thin and flexible short you will need to keep your man junk safe from unnecessary impacts, but otherwise the goods tend to stay nice and dry. This was noticeable while I exercise. The short has survived lengthy rides on a bicycle in humid weather without getting drenched in sweat. Pair these with quality underwear and you're golden. The sizing is very close. I normally wear 32, sometimes with a belt or drawstring, and 32 fit very close to what I needed.

Responded on

I should add that the short will shrink slightly after machine washing. I bought a size 32, but could easily get away with a 30 due to their stretching ability. Turns out after washing them a bit they fit even better than before, and now my oldest pair fits to my form better than when I first bought them!
The colors available are limited, but being an earthy kind of guy and a true minimalist, I have no complaints with aesthetic. Once they shrink and fit a little tighter around the legs you can pull them up on the glute muscles for a more modern, man's short short look (see the Patagonia Stand-up Short for reference).
If I had any complaints at all about buying the Brion it's that after repeated abuse a tiny loop of fabric has appeared on the short. It looks like the fabric is coming loose but is very tiny and strangely has not seemed to get worse. I accidentally stabbed myself in the leg with a utility knife and I think the damage was my own fault anyway.
The Brion is not terribly cheap like most Prana apparel, but i'll be damned if that's going to stop me. Price be damned I would stop at nothing to acquire a set of these for daily wear. I don't care if they were double the cost. I've bought 5 pair already and plan to buy 5-6 more for no other reason than to always have a fresh pair on hand without question.
Sorry for the long eye-sore of a review but i'm a Brion junkie and had to get some things off my chest..
