The best of both worlds.
When your bicycle features clean lines and eye-pleasing aesthetics, you don't want to ruin it with a drab plastic pump. The Portland Design Works Magic Flute is a mini pump/CO2 combo that's constructed from aluminum to keep weight down, and it's also polished for an attractive finish.
To use a cartridge, simply thread one into the head, install the pump, and then release the flow valve to fill the tire up. The valve helps prevent lost CO2 by controlling its discharge. The Portland Design Works Magic Flute comes with an alloy mounting bracket.

Simply the best
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
I've been using one of these pumps for about four years now --it's the original version, with the bamboo handle. There's simply nothing better out there. The convenience of being able to use CO2, but also pump when necessary is unbeatable. To have it all in a relatively small package just sweetens the deal. The valve-engagement is spot on, and has never failed me, and the barrel acquires a nice worn-in patina over time. The bamboo handle is starting to crack a bit from sweat and water (likely why they switched to plastic for this piece), but is still perfectly functional. I use it for both mountain and road tires. The size of your CO2 canister will determine its effectiveness for the tire you're fixing, but a couple flats will help you develop a bit of a routine. I typically get the new tube inserted and the tire remounted, pump until I don't feel like pumping anymore, then blast with CO2. I usually end up bleeding a little off at this point, but it's better than trying to make a mini-pump deal with 105psi or 2.4-inch 29er tires. You won't regret it.
