If you train around other people, you know how annoying it can be to have you heart-rate monitor pick up other watches transmissions: “Oh crap! 180bpm?” The Polar F6 Heart Rate Monitor watch uses coded transmissions so you'll get accurate information from your own body instead of the person running next to you. The OwnZone training program lets you find your optimal exercise zone by running you through a warm-up routine and monitoring your heart rate. From your watch you can select an exercise program based on your goal (aerobic fitness, weight loss, etc) and your F6 will let you know how you're performing compared to your optimal workout while you train. It's pretty simple really. Just do whatever your watch tells you to and you'll be in great shape.
Bottom Line: The F6 monitors your heart rate, not that of the spandex dude on the elliptical.
Does this HRM have a stopwatch function? All I can find is a countdown timer, and even that takes 5 buttons to access! A stopwatch seems like such a basic necessity, it's hard to believe that Polar wouldn't include it...
Set-up was easy. Works like a charm in monitoring my heart rate. The chest strap is easy to put on and I don't even feel it now when running or working out. Haven't quite mastered all the buttons/features and am not sure about how to toggle between stopwatch, heart monitor, etc. - it's not exactly intuitive, but to be honest, I haven't gone back to the manual to really try to figure it out. I'm sure it's not rocket science, but it's a tad more complicated than your standard running watch.
Love the green color - after 4 weeks of near-daily wear and lots of sweat, no signs of grunge or dirt.

This is a good, basic heart monitor. I like the "own zone feature" since my gym has lots of equipment lined up in close quarters and it's easy to get someone else's heart rate. I didn't give it 5 stars simply because when the battery dies on any Polar monitor, you have to send it in to them for replacement, which I don't like about Polar. When it works though, they do make a good monitor and even knowing my distaste for their policy, I still bought another Polar to replace the one that wore out.
Love this watch! The controls are intuitive, and the 12-workout data storage is very handy. I've never used a heart rate monitor, nor do I really ever wear a watch, but this one has me changing my tune. My only gripe is that the straps (in the 'coral' color) tend to get dirty and kind of remind me of an old barbie. A little soap and water seems to clean them up nicely though.
I am a very big guy - I was worried the strap wouldn't fit, but it fits just fine and is very comfortable. The watch is great and fits around my abnormally large wrist as well.
It is easy to use, and I haven't had the problem of the watch picking up other people's heart rate. This has always been very accurate, and helpful in my workouts.
I don't need/want all the fancy stuff from the higher models - I highly recommend this one. (plus, I started my search at Live Search and got cashback after the purchase)
This purchase was my first heart rate monitor and I feel that I made a good decision. Although, my watch didn't come with a manual I have figured it out on my own and if I can do it, well...anyone can. I was disappointed that my pale pink watch was shipped to me looking a little dirty.
some monitors have a belt to go round you ribs. Will this one work the same. I want to do the weight loss program. Does it tell you how many calories you have burned?
