Description
Better protection.
If you've ever felt that helmet designers placed too much attention on creating models that were too light and too aero for your tastes, then consider the POC Trabec Helmet. It's designed for mountain bikers or anyone who wants greater coverage over the ears and around the back of the head. The goal was to increase safety without sacrificing comfort and performance.
The Trabec fits more like a skateboard helmet, and this way it envelopes more of your skull. The fit can be custom tailored, and since it offers more coverage, the potential for movement when your head strikes the ground is less than smaller helmets with less coverage. Thinking about the way we wreck on trails, there is a greater chance for a variety of trajectory -- forwards, sideways, even backwards. When you get crazy, crazy things happen. So to protect your brain you need to cover your skull.
POC builds the Trabec Helmet as a single layer system. It has a polycarbonate shell that acts as the first defense against impact energy. It spreads the impact across a greater area so that the EPS liner can further absorb and soften the blow and protect your brain. Inside the foam core is an aramid net. Its purpose is to hold the foam together and resist chunking under massive, high speed impacts (like rebar in concrete). It's designed as a multi-impact system, so the helmet can survive more than just a few connections with the terra firma.
POC punches sixteen large vent holes in the shell, so you'll get plenty of airflow on hot days. An adjustable visor also helps on those sunny days to protect your eyes from glare and bright skies. A size adjustment system at the back allows you to snug it down for a perfect and wiggle free fit.
The POC Trabec Helmet is Black/grey and is available in three sizes -- X-Small/Small, Medium/Large, and X-Large/XX-Large. The pads inside are treated with Polygiene. It prevents bacterial growth, is eco-friendly, and is perfectly safe next to your skin. Since the bacteria can't grow on the pads, they'll last longer, require less cleaning, and smell way better.
- Aramid-reinforced EPS core provides protection and greater durability than tradition cycling helmets
- Extended side and rear coverage compared to traditional helmets for more complete head protection
- 16 shaped vents guides air in, and around the helmet for excellent cooling and ventilation
- Easy-to-adjust anatomic fit system holds helmet in place providing long-ride comfort
- Polygiene anti-odor wipe included to prevent a foul smelling helmet
- Adjustable visor helps to keep sun and mud from inhibiting vision

Fits great, comfortable, lightweight, does not scratch. When you pop off the visor it works well as a road/ xc helmet too but primarily a allmountain/ trail helmet. Best helmet I've ever owned!
Super Comfy!

For years I have worn Giro helmets but then a few of my friends picked up the POC Trabec and raved about how awesome it was. Needing a new helmet after a nasty crash I picked this one up in Blue. When I first received it and put it on my head it didn't fit and I almost sent it back...then I noticed the additional adjustments inside the helmet and viola...it fit! LOVE THIS HELMET
Won't even notice it.

This helmet is so comfortable I rarely even notice it is on anymore. It also offers really nice protection for the back of your head. It's definitely more a trail helmet than and XC helmet. Word to the wise on the sizing, if you are towards the high end of one size/low end of the larger size, go with the larger size. You'll get a better fit out of it and the helmet will ride better on your head.
Wow. Love it.

Bought the purple variety for the wife. She loves the color and the fit is amazing. Bought her the XS/S and fits like a glove. Secure and tight and no pressure (hot) spots to speak of. Took it riding and she liked the ventilation and weight, almost as if she wasn't wearing one. Only wish the orange had been on sale as well for myself.

I have been eyeing this helmet for a while and finally just purchased one. I never had the opportunity to try this on and asked a friend and she recommended I get an xs/s. I have always thought I had a larger head, but the xs/s fits like a glove. This helmet sits perfectly and doesn't move around at all on my head. It is very comfortable and I love the way it looks. I would highly recommend this helmet!

I got a great deal on this helmet from backcountry. My LBS had it for 140 which I felt was inflated due to this helmet's current popularity. The helmet has excellent coverage. I ride everyday in Honolulu and have no problems with ventilation.
ROCKS! and rock solid!

if the look alone isn't enough to sell you on this helmet i realized after getting one that i want everyone i care about that rides to have one as well. it is much more lightweight than i thought it would be without sacrificing any stability or compromising the structural integrity! if you cant figure that out then know this, Redbull riders wear POC and they go all out knowing their noggin is secure.
i definitely recommend for anyone and everyone looking for good coverage, solid platform, and even a nice sleek look!
POC just looks good...

This company is so rad...look at all their stuff, it is all designed beautifully. This is my favorite helmet I own for all MTN. It fits great but most importantly it leaves room for a great field of vision. Bottom line is if you are wearing a POC lid it makes your riding legit...kidding, but it certainly helps.

I bought one of these in the Black/Grey in M/L (I wear a medium in most helmets and a 7 1/2 or 7 5/8 in fitted ball caps).
I really did not need a new helmet, as I have a nice Bontrager Specter XR that is extremely comfortable and well ventilated. It provides good protection, giving me more coverage than the typical roadie lid, but as I push the limits of my skill set and tire adhesion, I was looking to get something in what I considered the next level up in coverage. I am a XC rider, and a fairly conserative older guy, so truthfully, the Bontrager is more than adequate.
I liked the fit and feel of the Trabec, even though it was slightly heavier than the Bonty (350 grams vs. 310). The weight seemed like a reasonable trade off, but I was also concerned about ventilation and heat buildup, as I am in sunny So Cal, but I got it on sale and figured I would take a chance.
Another feature I liked was what POC advertised as a "multi-impact" system, able to be worn after several crashes (they are going to happen). Lo and behold, on the first ride out, I took a pretty good digger and slid into a tree. The POC paid for itself, as I hit the tree at the back/base of my skull, possibly below where my other helmet ends. I was all in one piece, but the visor was popped off, and my helmet had a good dent in it, so much so that I question the "multi-impact"system feature.
I have worn it a few times since, including on a recent hot day, but I have just not been able to get used to the overall feeling of the helmet. I just like the Specter XR better. It is lighter and cooler, seems to provide almost the same coverage area, and just feels better.
I am going to keep the Trabec in my bag as a backup and as a loaner for friends in need, or just for those days when I feel like wearing it.

Anyone have any issues with glare from the underside of the visor on the white or other light-colored models? I like the white, as it seems like it would be cooler in the So Cal heat, but I'm concerned about glare...

Funny you should mention it... I have just gotten the light blue and on the trail today I noticed the visor more than I ever have noticed a visor on other helmets.
Didn't think of it at the time but all my other helmets have had black visors.
Maybe a little after-market paint modification is in order? ;-)

I can't find a reason not to give this helmet a five star.the fit around my cranium is superb.it is so light i tend to forget i have it on!the padding wraps around my forehead and channels sweat away from dripping to my eyes.this helmet also provides better coverage of my head-it increases confidence on the trail.

I initially wanted this helmet for more coverage and protection, plus I liked the looks of it. After the first ride I thought about it and couldn't remember noticing the helmet at all. I would have to say it's so comfortable that it disappears from the riding experience. Second ride same thing, it just feels like nothings there so it's not too heavy or hot or "too anything". I would recommend this helmet to any trail rider, cross country or any riding until you need a full face. The look is growing on me each time I wear it. it alsocomes with a cloth storage bag so if you don't wreck, it will stay new looking longer than bouncing around in the back of your car or truck.

I was surprised at how well this helmet vents. It looks more substantial than other comparable helmets but is surprisingly light and airy. The fit is on point as is the adjustability. The only odd thing is the strap placement. The straps come out of the body of the helmet and therefore seem to gap a little from the side of my head. Not a big deal, just something a little different.
Good helmet

I think this helmet will be too hot to use in Texas during the Summer, but during December it's perfect! lots of protection, and the bright green gets lots of attention.

I bought this helmet in black and like it so far. Thankfully I haven't crashed in it yet, but it seems like it would be very safe in a crash. I think it provides adequate ventilation. One cost of having a helmet with great coverage like this is that it can interfere with sunglasses. At first I thought I was going to need to return the helmet, but I've learned to make it work with my shades. Be sure to try this on with sunglasses before deciding whether or not to keep it.

I've tried a lot of helmets, my last lid being the budget friendly Giro Hex which I loved. I expected a heavy lid but even with the added coverage it weighs about the same as other helmets in the price range. The fit is about the same as a giro helmet but slightly more narrow. Vents are big but they don't promote a lot of airflow over your head.
This lid is awesome

I get compliments on this thing all the time. Its super comfortable and light. The vents also work extremely well and it covers the back of my head better than most other bike helmets.

This helmet right out of the box felt like it was made for my head. The fit and pads are very good. All bits are high quality. The matte paint is really cool too! I scratched it the other day and was mad at myself!
