Description

Looks different because it is.

The POC Trabec Helmet looks different, because it is different. POC places safety first and foremost above all other aspects of helmet design, so the result is products like look like no other. With ample temple and rear-lower head coverage, the Trabec's profile promises what it delivers - superb protection for mountain bikers everywhere.

Rather than being a union of multiple layers, the Trabec is constructed as a single piece of protective gear, with several elements sharing the work of dispersing impact. The polycarbonate shell rapidly distributes blunt forces around the helmet's large surface area, beneath which the EPS foam layer can further absorb the energy. Inside that layer is a net of Kelvar-like aramid, designed to function not unlike rebar in concrete, to prevent the helmet from shattering in the event of a particularly severe impact. The result is a multi-impact-resistant helmet that will keep up with your extreme ways.

The Trabec has 16 large air vents to keep things cool, but when you do sweat, there's a Polygiene-treated padding inside, which is antibacterial to keep things from getting gross. The relatively large adjustable visor keeps out the sun and trail debris that may rain down from the rear wheel of the rider in front of you, while the anatomic internal fit system is easily adjustable to ensure a snug fit.

The POC Trabec Helmet comes in multiple colors and is available in three sizes: X-Small/Small, Medium/Large, and X-Large/XX-Large.

  • Aramid net inside EPS foam layer
  • Super-tough polycarbonate shell
  • 16 vent holes
  • Adjustable visor
  • Extended protection over typical helmets
  • Adjustable fit system

Very protective!

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I fell hard on a rock face at about 20mph. Broke C7 in my neck, chipped a tooth from my jaw slamming shut and sprained my wrist. ER doctors were amazed that I didn't have a concussion or any wounds to the face or head. This is a very well designed helmet offering great protection. I will probably buy another when I'm able to ride again.

Very protective!

Great helmet!

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I MTB off-road/trails only and was looking for a helmet that better covered the back of my head. This one fit the bill and looks great. Comfortable with plenty of adjustments to ensure a snug fit. Super glad I made the investment.
I did need to exchange an L size for XL (my head size was right on the bubble between the two sizes).

Best Helmet I've had

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is best fitting helmet I've had. I tried a few different brands and was always fidgeting with the adjustments every time I wore it. With the Trabec I set it and forget it. It ventilates well enough for me and looks nice too. I've had mine for a few years and luckily it's never taken any hard hits but if I needed to replace it I would get another.

When will you get this in Beryl Green?

Best Answer Responded on

Hey Lupita,
Currently we have the Beryl Green color on order. Assuming there is no delay in getting the product we should have them available around mid April.

Protecting the Important Stuff

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I bought this helmet as a gift for a girlfriend, she shreds on the mountain - and even though this helmet is a bit more expensive that others, but it's safety ratings seem to be much higher - and to me, it's worth protecting her brain.

Not Matte

It looks matte in the picture but the finish is shiny. Otherwise it is great.

POC ROC

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

The Trabec is a pretty comfortable helmet, with enough padding in the proper places, and a good form fitting inner shape, that has adequate room to accommodate varying head geometries. The helmet is pretty light. the ventilation is good, not as good as a cross country helmet but has good air flow. I bought the black size medium. i usually wear a size 7 1/4 in new era hats and the medium fits perfect. Has kind of a blocky look but i dig the helmet for sure.

It Works!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Took a hard fall yesterday and bounced the back of my head off of the rocks like a superball. Glad I had the protection on the back side. I really like POC products. This helmet fits very well and stays snug, but not too tight. I've had two other big head-strike falls in the last few years, and my other two helmets, while they did the job, were destroyed. The POC was dented but it was at least in one piece so I could ride back to the trailhead without too much concern about the integrity of my lid. Will be getting a replacement though. Highly recommend!

Unanswered Question

I have this helmet, now that it's winter I'm looking for a rain cover that will fit. Any ideas of something that will fit this helmet (not including a shower cap)? Thanks

Saved My Room Mate!

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

Doctor says it would have been much worse. Check out the crack through the helmet. Though it did crack still saved her noggin. Couldnt save the clavicle but, that is fixable.

Disappointed

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I was astounded by the cheap construction, especially considering the cost. The plastic covering looked like it had been cut by dull scissors and hastily glued to the shell. While the size chart indicated my head size fell well within the range of the size I ordered, the helmet was too tight, even on the largest setting.

A much better helmet can be purchased for $100 less.

Love this helmet!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Very easy to adjust and it fit perfectly on my head. I have had issues over the years with finding a helmet that is comfortable and I took a risk buying this one online but it has plenty of areas to adjust and feels great. Very light weight and lots of ventilation not to mention that I think it looks great! I bought it in white and love the color!

Highly recommend!

Above average, but not perfect

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I picked this helmet up as my first mountain biking helmet, and have ridden with it several times.

What I like:
*white color option helps a bit with the heat
*size XL fits my enormous head well
*the big vents let in a good amount of breeze when I'm downhilling
*it seems to have good overall coverage

What I don't like:
*the side straps tend to shift position easily if you take the helmet off hang hang it by them
*the only thing securing the chin strap tightener is a rubber band
*the brow pads don't do a very good job of keeping sweat out of my eyes (it's been a hot summer!)

Awesome Helmet!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I purchased this helmet after realizing my previous one was long expired and probably would not survive a minor bike wreck. I looked at POC helmets because I have a ski helmet of theirs that I LOVE! I appreciate the care they take in the adjustability of their products. The chin straps are easily modified and I love being able to secure the back of the helmet to my head so I really feel as if the helmet is part of me. I rarely remove my helmet while biking and I find this helmet is so well ventilated that if I do take it off after a climb I barely notice a temperature change. It is lightweight. I feel completely protected by the design and even though appearances shouldn't matter, I don't look ridiculous in this helmet (at least myself, my dog and my man friend don't think so). I went with the same size I ordered for my ski helmet and it fits perfectly. A couple notes, the visor does not come off which is not an issue for me but may be for some people. Also, since I don't remove my helmet while climbing I cannot speak to the ease of carrying it on a pack. The rear head adjustment is wonderful but I would be interested in a boa system if available. I didn't research that component and it may not make a difference. I happen to love the boa system in my ski helmet it might be something to look for in future helmet purchases. Overall, love this helmet and highly recommend it! POC products are expensive but for a reason. I am insanely happy with all of their products I use!

We got this helmet for my wife and she has loved it.

Is the visor removable?

I couldn't find anything saying it was removable, but the visor is adjustable.

Fits my head well

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I ordered this helmet without even trying it on or seeing it in person and was pleasantly surprised how well it fit my head and how comfortable it was. My head also fits specialized and fox helmets for reference.

I was actually surprised by the ventilation compared to other helmets that have more vents.

Things that can be improved:
1) The adjustment hardware on the straps below the ears are not "locked" in place after the initial setup, so it comes out of adjustment if your backpack hold your helmet by the straps when transporting.
2) I with the helmet strap release on the back of the helmet wasn't a push to release. There are times when going down rocky terrain where my backpack comes up and releases the strap making my helmet loose in the worse scenario. I've adjust this strap to fit higher on my head and made a couple of adjustments on my backpack, which has reduced this significantly, but there are times that it still happens.
