    The unconventional standard.

If you're still rocking the helmet you got when...well, you can't remember, it's time to toss it and upgrade already. Like an of-the-moment boy band, helmets don't stay young and innocent forever, so replace it with something with adult worthy staying power, like the POC Tectal Helmet. Sure, it won't last forever either, but it's built with host of the most up-to-date technology by the safety-conscious squad over at POC to keep your gray matter safe when you decide to go big.

POC took design elements from two of its most popular helmets to create the Tectal, creating a hybrid with the best features from each. Extensive coverage along the temples and rear of the helmet increases protection to vulnerable areas, while the helmet's unibody design lessens the amount of potential stress points along seams. POC gives considers comfort almost as much as it does safety, and it carved out a range of vents along the Tectal to ensure air stays moving throughout the helmet. Strap your goggles on knowing they'll stay in-place with the included retention strap, while an adjustable visor keeps your field of vision clear from obstructive debris. Before you head out, a simple one-handed turn of the dial at the back of the helmet allows you to adjust for just the right fit.

    • Mountain bike helmet with extensive side and rear coverage
    • One-piece shell for structural integrity
    • Extensive venting for on-trail breathability
    • Goggle retention strap at the back
    • One-handed fit adjustment for ease of use
    • Safety remains the primary tenet of all POC gear

Great concept, did not fit me well

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: S/XS

I bought this upon recommendation from a friend. I tried hers on and it seemed to fit well - and I confirmed the sizing before ordering. However after riding in it, I found it to be extremely uncomfortable. In order to keep the helmet from moving about, I had to clamp it down pretty tightly, which caused the restraint system to dig painfully into the space just above my ears. This was made even worse when using a headlamp. Eventually I figured out that the basic shape just didn't fit me well - it felt like there was too much space in the forehead area. I compared it to my Giro Atmos and the POC is decidedly more "oblong" - the Giro is a little rounder. I thought it was really nicely made, nice and light, loved the pink color...just didn't work for me, so I returned it. My friend has been using her's for a while and still loves it!

    Love it

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Had a fox flux for years. Loved it. Had more crashes then I should have with the same helmet. Got a new one and thought I'd give Poc a try. Rode the other day and didn't even remember I had a new helmet on until I took it off it is that comfortable. Only thing that sucks is because of how the helmet is designed to sit so low on the back of your head/neck you can't pop your ponytail over the cinch in the back and get your hair off your neck.

    Helmets are Cool

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Definitely one of the better dome pieces I've ever owned. I try to keep the noggin armored up at all times, which isn't always easy when you're dressed to impress, but it helps when you can't even tell the thing is there. I always feel a bit more sendy when I know I'm protected.

One thing to note: I had to return my first helmet because the plastic cinch would release when a blow to the back of the helmet was imitated. Because of that, I'm taking away one star and highly recommending you check your piece out before taking it out.

    It's pretty awesome.

I dig this helmet. It's got great coverage, but also beathes well and is light enough I don't think about it being on. The pads are easily removed making washing a simple process. I've hit my head going under fallen trees several times and there's no scratches, so the shell is pretty durable.

My only complaint is that my goggles don't fit too well with the helmet. My goggles are pretty big, so maybe with a smaller set this wouldn't be an issue. (And honestly it's not a huge problem)

      It's pretty awesome.

      Sketchy

      • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I tried three of these helmets on and found the same issue with the internal cinch system on all of them. If you cinch the helmet tight then pull lightly on the helmet the cinch comes undone. Kind of unsettling when considering this thing only works if it stays on your head. I'm not sure if this is a design flaw or if POC put out a bad batch but I would recommend testing your helmet before deciding to keep it.

      Oh yeah, Tectal!

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: XL/XXL

I've been using the Trabec, and thought it was great but I am more pleased with the Tectal. The Tectal breathes better, fits more comfortably (forget that I have it on) and has a visor that has a great range of coverage (out of sight to covering my yes) and stays where I put it. The head cinch isn't as tight as the Trabec but the helmet still stays put surprisingly. I also like the more rounded look than the Trabec's boxier shape. I use while I ride around town and on my 25 mile rides. Lastly, the color (white) is really bright. Thanks for reading.

      Improved fit over the Trabec

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: XS/S

I've had a POC Trabec for several years and really liked the coverage but the fit was a little loose. The Tectal really improves in this respect with the dial adjuster. I have a small head and the XS/S fits me perfectly. It does sit lower in both the front and back, which took a little getting used to as far as my ponytail and sunglasses. It does feel very secure and doesn't move while riding. The venting is also a huge improvement over the Trabec. Overall, a great helmet!

      Improved fit over the Trabec

      great xc/trail helmet

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size

This helmet has a more coverage in the back, while staying light and breathable. It feels very safe and secure- and is super comfortable-, and the visor is a definite plus and easy to use. My one small problem with it is that it doesn't have great glasses storage, but the benefits of the helmet definitely make up for it.

      Great coverage and comfortable

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I purchased the helmet for increased lower coverage in the back and was pleasantly surprised to find the helmet also offers coverage on the forehead. The fit is comfortable with no hot spots and I especially appreciate the 360° wrap adjustable retention cage and strap that keeps the helmet in place.

      Awesome helmet!

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: XS

I love the tectal as a MTB helmet because of the added coverage in the back, making it safer for trail use. I also love the look of it too... Seems less "roadie" than the Octal. The adjustable visor and dial are easy to use, and my one complaint is that it doesn't hold glasses. Nonetheless an awesome helmet.

      Coverage where it counts

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size

The added coverage in the Tectal is obvious as soon as you put it on. The helmet sits low on my forehead and covers to ear level. Ventilation is key in xc and trail lids, and the Tectal get plenty of it. The vent holes are huge and really get air moving through. The visor is adjustable and in fact removable, and I've used it in nearly every configuration I can come up with. The Tectal is noticeable heavier than its little brother the Octal, but for my mountain bike rides, I always grab the Tectal.

      Great all around helmet

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size

Coming from and XC background I have always raced and rode with really light and breathable helmets so getting the tectal was something very unfamiliar with me. After using it several times I have found the helmet to give a much more secure feel to it but not to compromise with the light and breathable feel of the typical xc helmet. The tectal really is the best of both because it provides comfort and style of a trail helmet while also providing the breathable feel and the lightness of the xc helmet while getting you some style points!! The only thing I have found that I would improve with the helmet is glasses storage. I also run POCs for glasses and I wish the helmet was a little more compatible with them. Nonetheless, a great all around helmet!

      Cool, light, and fast.

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size

The new Tectal blends the good of both the Trabec and the Octal. Despite the trail nature of the helmet, it stays relatively cool and doesn't have the bulk of many other trail helmets on the market. Coming from an Octal, the minute change in weight and ventilation are made up with extra protection and style.

The one gripe I have found is glasses storage. There aren't any spaces to place your glasses when you take them off.

The Tectal is a great helmet for someone looking for the best of both a trail and XC helmet.

Racing XC bikes calls for a breathable, light, and safe helmet; as well as the cool factor too right? Last year I ran the POC Octal and it was perfect for the job. Going to the Tectal this year hasn't disappointed these requirements one bit. Usually going to the more "trail" look and style of a helmet means your head gets much less air due to the lack of vents. With the Tectal this isn't the case. I live and race in Texas as well, and yes Texas is crazy hot. I haven't had any problem with it in training or racing making me feel over heated. POC has designed and developed some of the safest helmets out there so that is always a big factor to consider when buying helmets. The Tectal fits comfortably and provides more protection around your head, as it kind of wraps around the back too. What's not to like with it's superior safety features, feel, and looks?
This is an excellent choice for the XC rider/racer as well as trail riding.

      Hey,

What is the difference between the POC tectal and tectal race? There's a $20 something price difference and the only thing I see are different color schemes.

      Thanks,

      Ben

I just received my POC Tectal helmet. It doesn't include the google strap on the back of the helmet like the one advertised on your site. Can someone confirm that it does or does not include the google strap as pictured above?

Hey Matthew - You are correct that the standard POC Tectal pictured above does not include the goggle clip. I had this verified by our Warehouse and we are in the process of updating the info on the website. The POC Tectal Race Helmet (Item #POC006O) does have the goggle clip. Feel free to contact me directly if you would like to set up an exchange or with any additional questions.
